"Leather pants? Really?" Austin had a half shocked, half curious look on his face. The idea of him in leather pants half amused him, however it wasn't something Austin would ever wear. "Although, I don't think that leather pants are really my thing." He gave a light laugh. "But, I can always go with a pair of sunglasses. I don't have a problem with those. With your help, I'm sure that I could get started in something in music. And, don't worry, I wouldn't be able to forget you, no matter how many girls there are."

Paige pretended to look disappointed. "Aw, but I bet you'd look sexy in leather pants," she said, winking. "But I suppose there are other options. Like tight jeans. Not really tight, like you can't breathe... but I mean... if they fit just right... that can work, too. Yes, I bet you would look good in a nice-fitting pair of jeans. Robes are so stuffy, you know? I think muggles have the right idea when it comes to clothes. Tight jeans and a ripped T-shirt... yeah, that would do the trick."
Paige sometimes came on a little strong, and guys responded to that. But there was a different energy with Austin. Flirty, but fun. She was enjoying herself so much that she really didn't notice or care that Chloe hadn't come back with her order yet.

"I have several pair of jeans like that. I hate jeans that are too loose, and pants in general." Austin gave Paige a wink. "And I can't agree with you more about robes. Sometimes I feel like I can't breathe in those and you can't really move that freely, they seem to weigh you down." Muggles did have the right idea when it came to clothes. He wasn't sure why wizards wanted to wear robes all the time, however he would wear them, especially if he was going somewhere there was a lot of wizards.
Austin was enjoying himself. "And you, I bet, look good in just about anything."

Paige's smile widened. "I knew I liked you," she said. "I definitely think we can work on your image and get you set up as the next big thing. You know, I even know someone in the business. I used to date him, of course... but I'm sure he wouldn't hold that against you. You'll need a manager, and he knows the business. Only thing is, I'm not entirely sure I want to share you with all those drooling girls you're sure to attract. I found you first." She winked again. "And if you think I look good in anything, you should see me in nothing."

"Well, I'll let you see how well good I am before I decide on a manager and stuff," Austin said with a wink. "But I do appreciate your offer and I'm probably going to take you up on it." He wanted to get a good foot in the door, and if Paige could help him do that, he didn't see why he couldn't let her help him.
"And don't worry. Since you're a reporter, you could tour with me and write about it for the paper or something. The other girls I don't think would be quite as interesting either." Austin smiled and laughed at her last comment. "If I didn't know any better, I would say that you're offering something Ms. Paige." He gave her a wink. Austin wasn't going to just take her home and sleep with her. He didn't want this interaction to be over as soon as they slept together. He wanted to enjoy more of it.

Paige winked back. "Well, you know, I might be. But of course, if I'm going to write about you and your music, we'd need to have a strictly professional relationship, which would mean it would be out of the question for you to take me up on such an offer. However, I would definitely be interested in a little... private performance. Again... strictly professional, of course. I have to see if you're any good, after all..."
She was definitely enjoying their little game, and she didn't want it to end so soon. They could keep playing, let the energy build a little. It wasn't like she had any reason to rush.

"Strictly professional? I think I could handle that." He was smiling again. "And a private performance would have to be given, after all, how are you going to know if I'm truly getting better or not. Plus, you could help me with deciding which songs the audience likes the best, meaning we would have to met together to go over that."
Austin was also enjoying their little game. "I'm sure we could manage that."

Paige smiled sweetly. "Well, this all sounds very good. I think we should get started right away, especially since it doesn't seem like we'll be getting our orders any time today. I mean, honestly. You would think that, since I actually am related to the waitress, she would make a little bit of an effort to be prompt in her service." She rolled her eyes exaggeratedly. "Good thing I didn't promise her a good tip."

"Well, just wait a few more minutes," said Austin calmly. "Give the waitress a chance, she's the only one working and the place is starting to get more busy." He was a very patient man. Sometimes, he wondered if that would be his downfall. At the mention of being related to the waitress, Austin glanced up and observed the blonde woman, then looked at Paige. As many times as he had been in here, it never occurred to him that the waitress looked like Paige, but then again he never really looked that well at the woman.
"I've been in here many times to know that you have to be patient, especially at lunch, because people start piling in and if there is only one waitress, then things tend to be slow. Just relax. I'm not that boring am I?"

Chloe was busy trying to take other people's orders. She already knew that the man with the shaggy hair wanted. He always ordered the same thing. Between refilling glasses already, and taking orders, Chloe was practically running around.
Once Paige and Austin's orders were up, Chloe picked up their plates and walked over to where they were sitting. "Here you go. Sorry for the wait," she apologized, more so to Austin than her sister. "I'll be right back to refill your glasses."

Paige watched her sister as she brought their orders over and didn't even say a thing to her. She felt a little bubble of hatred boiling up inside of her. Chloe was supposed to be the "good" twin... the one who was always supposed to be nice, no matter what. And she couldn't spare a word for her little sister? Never mind that Paige had been thinking cruel thoughts about her sister, she expected better of Chloe.
"She's my twin sister, can you believe it? Older than me by 15 minutes. And she acted like she barely knew me!"

"Paige," Austin said gently. "She probably doesn't have time to just stop and talk. There are other people in here as well. Just relax, alright? You're back in England, so there is probably a chance that you two will have a chance to get together or something." He watched Paige for a moment with interest. "She'll probably say something to you whenever she comes back or something. It seemed that she was in a rush. You have to be patient." Austin's words were said gently, never demanding.

Suddenly, Paige wasn't having fun anymore. Leave it to stupid Chloe to ruin the mood.
Paige was not capable of seeing that all of the problems she had with Chloe were largely of her own making. She expected Chloe to be patient and understanding and to put up with whatever crap Paige decided to throw her way. She wanted to be coddled and sympathized with, to be the center of attention. But in Paige's eyes, Chloe always stole the attention away.
"Oh, sure, take her side!" Paige burst out, glaring at Austin. "Everyone always takes her side."

At Paige's outburst, Austin's eyebrows raised, but he still was patient and calm. "I'm not taking anyone's side," he defended. "I'm just telling you how things could be. I mean, think of how it is when you're busy. Do you really have time to stop and talk? Probably not." He picked up his glass and took a sip out of it.
"For the Prophet, what exactly are you writing about," he asked attempting to steer the conversation in a different direction.

Austin's calm, rational attitude was exactly what Paige needed. Someone who could tolerate her outbursts and get her to relax. But at first, his patience annoyed her. She wanted to yell and throw a fit and he was being so maddeningly calm that she wasn't entirely sure how to react.
"She just hates me," Paige said in a sour tone. "She always has. It's because she's prettier than I am and better at everything. And the only thing I was ever good at--dancing--I can't do anymore. I don't even know if I'll be any good at writing... I only got the job by sleeping with the editor."

"She doesn't hate you," said Austin. "You're sisters. I don't honestly think that she could hate you. You two just don't really see eye to eye, that's all. You have to just give things a chance, and not look on the bad side of things. If you see a good relationship with your sister, then go for it. You shouldn't just jump to the conclusion that she hates you. Plus, you are beautiful, no matter what you say, and I'm positive that you can do anything you put your mind to."
Patience was the best thing that Austin ever gained. At the mention of sleeping with the editor, Austin pretended as if he didn't hear it. "Paige, you're going to be good at it. I promise. I bet you're good at other things besides dancing, and no I don't mean anything suggestive by that either."

What Austin didn't realize was that Paige's complaint about why Chloe hated her was actually what Paige felt about Chloe. But she didn't hate her sister, either... she was simply jealous. Even now that Chloe was a werewolf and apparently reduced to waiting tables in a restaurant, somehow Chloe was happy. And it burned Paige more than she cared to admit.
She sighed and looked at him. "Are you for real? I think you might just be too perfect to be real. How is it you know exactly the right words to say?"

"Last time I checked I was real," said Austin. "I hope my mum didn't ever lie to me about that." He gave her a grin. "And it's just common sense. Sometimes you just overlook things, and not think on the good side of life. And trust me, I'm not perfect at all. I can probably be one of the first people to admit to that. But, like I said its just common sense. And some of what my mum used to tell me." He gave a shrug.
"As for the right words, I always listened to what my dad would tell my mum whenever she was crying. He always seemed to make her feel better."

Slowly Paige began to relax. She was not used to such warmth from guys. Most guys were... well, they were just trying to get her into bed. And she usually let them. But caring about her feelings, calming her down, being so... sweet... Paige wasn't used to it. But it was starting to work on her.
Taking a sip of her drink, she looked at him for a minute. Paige never usually fell for the nice guys. There was a first time for everything.
"You're sweet," she said. "So, I'm guessing, like, you're really close to your family?"

"I try to be," Austin said with a smile. "But yeah, I am pretty close with my family. I still go visit them at least once a week. My mum likes it of course cause she has someone to fuss over." He gave a light laugh. "My dad likes it because it puts my mum at ease from worrying all the time. Over all, we're pretty close."
He knew that Paige wasn't that close to her sister, so he just passed over that part. "What about you and your parents?"
