Paige had just arrived back in town a few weeks ago. She'd spent a year touring America with her dance troupe and, ever since the ankle injury that had ended her dance career, she had been studying journalism. Now she had a new job at the Daily Prophet and she decided to check out one of the local restaurants to celebrate.
The Hot Panini seemed like a casual sort of place, but quaint in its way. It was also easier to get into on short notice than Le Repas Cher.
So Paige stepped into the little restaurant and chose a seat by the window. She was looking over the menu when she heard the waitress approaching.

Chloe went into work and tied on her apron as she appeared behind the counter. Her hair was tied back in a messy like bun. Part of her didn't want to come into work today. She just wanted to lay in bed all day, but she knew that that wasn't going to happen. Sighing Chloe had already cleaned off the tables with the help of Becky and made sure things were in order before they opened up.
A few people came in and Chloe had her back turned as another customer came in the door. All she noticed was dark hair, and Chloe grabbed her little notepad and walked up to the woman. "What can I get you to drink," she asked looking up but froze when she saw the woman's face.

Paige looked up from her menu, prepared to place her order, but froze when she saw the face looking back at her. Her face.
"Chloe?" she gasped at the sight of her twin sister. It had been years since they had seen each other, and Paige had all but forgotten about her sister. Chloe, the golden girl, with the blonde hair and sweet face. Always the opposite of Paige.
Chloe looked the same as ever, except perhaps a little pale and tired. Paige narrowed her eyes at her. "Well, look what the wolf dragged in," she said in a snotty tone.

She looked at the woman sitting there. It had been ages since she had since Paige, her twin. This was not a happy reunion between the two and Chloe knew that. She knew that she might not ever have a decent relationship with her sister, that's why Chloe had never stated that she ever had a sister. She hadn't even told Karl that she did. No one really asked, so she didn't tell.
"Paige?" Chloe looked her over. Paige hadn't really changed all that much physically, and her attitude sure hadn't changed. "You know, you should be nice to people who bring you your food," she remarked. She didn't want to get into a fight with Paige. Not today. "What can I get you to drink?"

Paige rolled her eyes. Just like her sister to give her a lesson in etiquette. Chloe always did know best, or so she wanted everyone to think, anyway. "Yeah, whatever," she replied boredly. "Merlin alive, Chloe, look at you. You look like hell. You barely even look like my twin anymore. And you're serving food in a restaurant now? Is that really the best you could do? You're really hitting the bottom of the barrel now, aren't you?"
She shook her head sadly. It actually made her sad to see someone who resembled her so much look so... bad. Suddenly she felt like she was the pretty twin, even though as a child Chloe had always outshone her.

"Look Paige. I actually like my job. I get paid decently. I'm sorry that I don't have as much time on my hands like you do. Things happened and I have to make do with what I can. I'm actually happier now than I have ever been," said Chloe. She didn't care what kind of job she had. All that matter was she was getting by and she was happy.
"What are you doing here? What are you doing now?"

Paige raised her eyebrows with interest. "Someone's awfully defensive," she said. "But I guess you're right. After your little... accident... this is probably the best you can hope for, right? I just never thought I'd see you in an apron." She shook her head and sighed.
"Well, I was in a dance troupe for a while, and we toured America. It's a beautiful country, really. And so modern. And the guys are so much more fun. But I had a bad fall and ruined my ankle. So I'm taking up journalism. I'm about to start writing for the Daily Prophet!"

Chloe rolled her eyes. "What did you expect? That I would just go hide somewhere and stay hidden? I have a house, and we're all just trying to fit in as much as possible. We still have to make a living too." Yes, she was defensive. She didn't want to be looked at as different.
Of course Paige would have fun with guys there, but whatever Paige did, well that was what she did. "Sounds lovely," she said at the comment about America being beautiful. "But I should say that I'm sorry about your ankle, but good luck with the paper. I hope things do work out for you Paige." Even though the sister never really got along, Chloe did hope that things worked out for the best for her.

Paige frowned. If it had been her, she would have hidden away somewhere, that was certain. She might have even killed herself. The mere idea of turning into a werewolf and getting all hairy and gross was disgusting to her. She wouldn't have been able to bear it.
"Well, I suppose when you put it that way, at least you're still surviving." She eyed Chloe suspiciously. "What's this we, anyway? Do you have a little werewolf friend or something?"

"Yes, I am still surviving." She noticed Paige's look and knew the next question she was going to ask.
"My friends, well, family, or pack if that's what you want to call it," said Chloe. "We're staying in the house in Hogsmeade Village. We had to fix it up because there were some other wolves that came through and messed it up, but it's all fixed. Nothing's wrong with it anymore."

Paige's eyes widened. "You have a... a pack?" she repeated, incredulous. "Like, real wolves? Oh, Chloe... what are these people like? Are they savages? Are they dirty? I can't imagine living like that. Have you even tried to contact Mum and Dad? I mean... maybe they'd take you back in... it's possible. If they knew what happened to you, maybe they'd help. I barely even like you and I want to help... I mean, you are my twin, after all."

"It's not my pack. I'm just part of it," she replied. Chloe refrained from rolling her eyes at Paige. "No Paige. They're nothing like that. They're just like anyone else. We're blending in with everyone else. It's not fun being treated like we're different, and we're not really. We're like anyone else, because we are people Paige. We're not like some other wolves around. And no, I have not contacted Mum and Dad. I don't plan on it either. They don't care about me Paige. You know that. After what happened and they kicked me out, I alone for a couple of years. They didn't even bother to find me. I survived and now I finally found a place I can call home and the people around me my family. I'm not going to go back to them. And help me how Paige?"

Paige was appalled. To her, it sounded like her sister had joined one of those crazy muggle cults that she'd heard about in America. A bunch of "hippies," as they were called, all living together in a house and doing Merlin only knew what. She'd heard some shocking stories. But surely her sister wouldn't do things like that, would she?
"But they're your family, Chloe. I'm your family. Come on... you could stay with me. You don't have to live like that."

"Paige, where have you been for the past several years? Where has Mum and Dad been for the past several years? I never received anything for any of you. No Happy Birthday, nothing. Karl and the others are more my family than you three have been. They have accepted me and honestly Paige. Do you think that Mum and Dad would look at me the same? I think not. I'm happy the way I'm living. We all do our part to keep going and live as normal as we can."
Chloe sighed. "If you met them, maybe you would see differently. They're not bad people."

Paige scowled. It seemed her sister liked living this way, and this was upsetting to her. Even if she didn't like her sister, there was a certain amount of pride involved here. And what if Paige was somehow associated with Chloe? What would it do to her reputation?
"Look, Chloe... I've been busy. And I didn't know where to find you... I just assumed you were dead or something. But... well, I suppose the way you're living is better than living in a cave or something somewhere."
At the mention of Karl, Paige's eyebrows went up. "Karl?" she repeated. "Who's Karl?"

"And what do you think supposed stopped Mum and Dad from contacting me? They sent me off without another word other than don't come back. They don't want me to come back around and I'm not going to go somewhere I'm not wanted." Chloe didn't understand why Paige didn't understand that. "An owl would have found me, but you didn't even think about it. It's fine, really Paige."
She didn't care that they didn't contact her. That was not of her worries. Karl... how was she to describe what he was. "Karl is my mate, well, boyfriend, I guess you would call him."

Paige's old feelings of jealousy flared up again. Even in the state she was ion, Chloe could get a boyfriend. But Paige could only get boys who would stay for one night. She had been with quite a lot of those types of guys. And she was getting tired of it. She wanted something that would last; someone that would love her and only her. But it seemed she attracted the wrong type of boy, or maybe she just was looking in the wrong places.
"Your mate?" she repeated. "Well, how lovely for you. I suppose he is a werewolf like you?"

Chloe could smell Paige's scent change and she fought the urge to wrinkle up her nose. "Yes, he is, but you know it would be nice if you kept that down. There are certain people that hunt us down like were some kind of animal and you never know when they're around. Plus, no one else knows in this place except for the other waitress. She's full human and the only other friend I have so just keep it down, please." She never asked anything of Paige and she didn't want her secret to be out.

Paige certainly had a spiteful attitude at times, and if pushed, she was known to get revenge on people. She and Chloe had an antagonistic relationship when they were younger, and Paige often tried to take what her sister had. Other times, she would spy on Chloe and find out her secrets, just so she could tell on her.
Now that she was working for the Daily Prophet, she was in a very good position to ruin Chloe's life, if she wanted to do that. And the realization did not escape her. A few "tell all" stories in the Prophet, and Chloe's little "pack" could be forced to relocate... or break up entirely. On the other hand, Paige's relationship to Chloe could also be spilled, and she would probably be ostracized simply by association--whether she liked her sister or not. The fact was, they were still twins, and even though Paige had the darker hair, the resemblance would be a liability for her.
So for now, anyway, Paige had no intention of telling anyone about her twin sister's situation. Not unless she had something to gain from it.
"Why would I tell anyone?" she answered snidely. "Like I'm particularly anxious to go telling everyone my sister's a werewolf? Really, Chloe, I would think you'd know me better than that."

Chloe eyed Paige. "You don't have to talk to me that way," she said. She knew that if Paige ever spilled her secret, then it wouldn't be too good for Paige. She also knew that Paige didn't want to be associated with her. "I'm just telling you. There's already so much going on that we don't need anything else to add on top of that." Chloe sighed.
She reached up and moved a piece of hair that had fallen in her face. "Have you decided what you would like to drink?"
