Jeremy was feeling cooped up inside, so he slipped outside to take a little walk around the grounds. It was a cold morning, so he was bundled up tightly in cloak and hat. He could see his breath like a puff of smoke in front of him as he walked aimlessly around.
He was thinking again about asking Alenna to the dance. He didn't want to tell Nolan, but it wasn't just a passing idea... he'd been thinking about asking her out for a while. He really liked her, but he had yet to get up the nerve to talk to her.
He stopped not far from the Whomping Willow and began to pace back and forth as he tried to come up with a way to ask her out.
Alenna, would you do me the honor of going to the dance with me?
Too formal.
Hey, Alenna, go to the dance with me.
Was that an order or a request?
Alenna, would you go to the dance with me?
Lacked style.
He sighed. He was never going to figure it out. He was just probably going to end up dateless and alone, being picked on by Nolan.

There was a large amount of nothing going on in the common room, so Alenna thought she'd go for a walk. Wrapping up in her cape and Ravenclaw scarf, she headed outside and began to walk toward the womping willow.
When she got there, Lennie saw Jeremy pacing back and forth near the tree. She found a near by rock and sat upon it, watching him curiously.
"Whats got you all bothered?" Alenna asked after a while.

Jeremy jumped at the sound of her voice, then turned around to face her. Of all the people, in all the school, to be watching him just now, why did it have to be her? He could have take a little good-natured teasing from Nolan... but for the very person he was thinking about to show up right then... surely the universe was having a laugh at his expense.
"Oh... hey, Alenna," he said. "I was just thinking about... um... transfiguration. Yeah.... Just trying to remember how to turn a blade of grass into a cricket bat."
OK, that was easily the stupidest thing he'd ever said. He felt like his tongue was tied in knots around her.

Lennie bit her lip when Jeremy jumpped. "Didn't mean to startle you, sorry Jeremy," she apologized.
She had a feeling that transfiguration wasn't all that was making Jeremy pace, but she gave him the benifit of the doubt. She smiled. "Ah, I see," she said. "So how are you doing?" she asked, bundling herself up tighter as a gust of wind blew.

Jeremy flashed a crooked smile. He must have looked like such an idiot to her. "Um... OK, I guess," he said.
He saw her shiver and he rushed over to her, draping his cloak over her shoulders. Sitting down in the grass next to her, he looked at her shyly. "There... is that better? It's a nice day out, but the sun's not really helping at all."

Jeremy drapped his cloak over her shoulders. It was really sweet, and Lennie let show a bright smile. "Thanks," she said. "It is quite cold, isn't it?" She asked. "But I don't mind, Winter's always the best type of year," she added.

Jeremy nodded. "I like the cold weather, too. Especially when it snows. Everything seems more peaceful when it snows, like the whole world is covered up in a soft, fluffy blanket." He laughed nervously. "I guess that sounds kinda weird, huh? That's just always how I saw it."

"It's not wierd at all really," Alenna said. "I totally get what you mean. Everything is just...nicer... when it's snowing," she agreed. She recognized Jeremy's nervous tone in his laugh. "You sure it was just Transfiguration you were thinking about earlier?" she asked with a gentle smile.

Jeremy blushed a bright, blotchy red and stared down at his shoes. "Um... Well, no. Not really," he confessed. "I was thinking about... um..." He trailed off, then took a few deep breaths.
She's just a girl, he reminded himself. What was the worst she could do? Say no? If she did, would it really be the end of the world?
Biting down on his lower lip, he gave her a sideways glance. "I was kinda thinking about you, actually. How your hair spills over your shoulders, and your eyes are deep and brown, like warm cocoa. And how your smile is like the sunlight shining through ice crystals on a cold winter day."

In all the years Alenna had lived, she had never heard such kind things be spoken about her. She had never known that Jeremy had though of her that way. "Jeremy," she said, still slightly shocked from what he had said. She reached out from underneath Jeremy's cloak and took his hand in her's. "That is absolutly the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me," she felt herself smile and blush.

Jeremy blushed. Although the speech had sounded rehearsed, it wasn't. It came bursting out of him, filled with sentiments that he had long held inside and never dared to let out. He was a poet at heart, and a hopeless romantic. Sometimes he was able to put his feelings into words... as long as he didn't let his brain get in the way.
"I've... actually wanted to say that for a while. Well, maybe not exactly like that... but something close. I just think... you're the prettiest girl I've ever seen. But you're not just pretty... you're smart, too."

Again, Alenna blushed. She had never met a boy that could make her blush as much as Jeremy did. Truth of the matter, Alenna had figured out not to long ago about her own crush on the Gryffindor boy sitting beside her. She squeezed his hand again, hoping to borrow some of Jeremy's Gryffindor courage as she leaned over and kissed his cheek gently. "Thank you Jeremy," she said sincerly. "And I like you a lot too," she added with a smile.

Jeremy's face felt like it was on fire as she kissed him. Unconsciously, he raised his hand and laid it on his cheek, staring at her. "You... you... do?" he gasped. For a second, he couldn't breathe. He couldn't believe he was having this conversation with her. Was he dreaming?
"Willyougototheballwithme?" he blurted out, all of his words slurring together into one barely recognizable mess.

Alenna grinned at Jeremy's reaction, glad that it was a positive one. "Yea, I do," she said earnestly, her own cheeks burning red.
It took her a moment to figure out what Jeremy had said before she realized he asked her to the ball. "I'd love to go to the ball with you Jeremy." Alenna said.

Jeremy let his breath out in a long rush. Had she really just said yes? "Really?" he asked. "I mean, great!" He gave a little nervous laugh. "I can't believe I was so afraid to do that sooner," he said shyly. His delivery had left a little something to be desired, but he's got the results he wanted. And she wasn't laughing at him. "I... well, I'm not a great dancer, but I promise I won't step on your feet or anything," he said.

Alenna giggled and it nearly shocked her. She hardly ever giggled. "Why so afraid to ask me?" she asked. "And dancing realy isn't that hard to learn," Lennie said. She remembered being taught to dance by her parents so that she could during dinner partys and other high class events. "I could show you if you'd like." She smiled.

Jeremy stared down at the ground, pretending to be fascinated with a blade of grass that was waving back and forth with the wind. "No reason, I guess. I just... I don't know. I get shy. I mean, we've known each other for a while, and I could mostly talk to you about school stuff... but I was just afraid you wouldn't like me that way."
He looked up at her at last, a smile on his face. "I would like to learn how to dance, actually. I mean, just so I don't embarrass you at the ball."

"Well then you're with the right girl," Lennie said, hopping off her rock and standing infront of Jeremy. She held out her hand to him. "Come on." She smiled again, waiting for him to join her.

Jeremy took a deep breath and got to his feet. Pausing to brush himself off, he bit down on his lower lip as he moved towards her. "Um, OK," he said. "So... what now? Are we dancing a slow dance or a fast dance?" It would be hard to really dance without some kind of music.

"Well fast dances are a bit more difficult to teach, so this can be a slow one," Lennie said. "And yes," she smiled. "I know there's no music, we're improvising here." She took his left hand in her right and put her left hand on his shoulder. "Okay, so take your right hand and place it on my waist," she said, just like how she was taught as a child.
