"Did you ever stop to think that if you married her, or at least asked her to marry you, then Mum would have no choice but to accept her?" Roland demanded. "I'm honestly beginning to think you don't actually want to marry Lina. You're just making excuses. If you want to be with her, nothing else should really matter, not even what Mum and Dad say."

"I do want to marry her Roland," Cyrus said sternly. "And you talked about being disowned eariler. If that was to go ahead and happen, then I would certainly be disowned. Mum wouldn't just accept her with no problem. And she doesn't even want to really see Mara." He shook his head. It made him angry that his own mother wouldn't care enough to see Mara.

"Then you bring Mara to her anyway," Roland said angrily. "Cy, don't you see what you're doing? You've just decided that this is how things are going to be and you're giving up! If this keeps up, there's a very good chance you'll lose Lina and Mara, too. Do you want that?"
Roland paused to drink the last of his butterbeer, then added, "If you want everything, you have to fight for it. Or you'll end up with nothing. You know as well as I do that no one in their right mind could resist Mara if they saw her... Just bring the baby over to see Mum... she'll break down."

Roland was right, Cyrus knew it but he didn't want to admit it. He didn't want to lose Lina nor Mara. There was something that was going to have to give, but he didn't know what. He knew that just going off and marrying Lina could anger his parents more. Cyrus knew that he was going to have to talk to them, he just didn't know what he was going to say.
"Okay, fine," he said. "I'll bring Mara over to see them. I don't know how well mum would take it, but I'll do it." Cyrus ran a hand through his hair. He wasn't sure if bringing Mara over to see his mum would do the trick, but it could be a start.

Roland nodded. One thing about his relationship with Cyrus was that when they did argue, Roland usually won. Of course, Roland was generally convinced that this was because he was always right, and Cyrus was always wrong. This belief made him cocky at times, and was just another one of the reasons why he and Cyrus usually fought.
"Good. That's all I'm asking. I just want you to try. If she shuts you down, then at least you know you tried."

Ama came back with her and Jamie's drinks and took a seat quietly next to Jamie. She handed him his drink as Roland and Cyrus finished up their convorsation. She knew they waited for the more serious convorsations when she wasn't sitting there. But really, she was 14, not 5. She could handle serious convorsation. But, yet again, she played the innocent. "Here Jamie," she said sweetly, even though she had already given Jamie his drink.

Jamie's eyes strayed back and forth from one brother to the next, almost as if he was watching a tennis match. But instead of watching the one speaking, he watched the one listening. Reactions were a lot more interesting to watch then speakers, and Jamie could almost predict what the next was going to say. Of course, he sided with Roland, but he always understood Cyrus's point of view.

As Amandine returned to the table, Roland smiled slightly. It wasn't that he didn't like discussing serious subjeccts in her presence, but he knew she didn't like when her brothers argued. So he did his best to make sure they didn't argue when she was around.
"You know, we can order something to eat, too, if you want," Roland said. Actually, he was sort of hoping to do just that. As usual, he had no food in his apartment.

"You don';t have any food, do you?" Ama asked in that All knowing tone little sisters tend to have. Ama giggle a bit and grabbed a menu.

Roland let out an embarrassed laugh. How she knew such things he would never understand. Was it a girl thing?
"No, I don't... but, hey, I just came home after being gone for 5 months. Any food I did have has gone bad." Of course, he knew full well that there hadn't been much to begin with, but she didn't know that. "Anyway, don't tell Mum. She's still bugging me to move back home, and that's not going to happen."
He picked up his own menu and tried to pick out something to eat.
