Jamie gave her a smile, "you look just as pretty, but now at least you have some fashion sense." He joked lightly.
Jamie liked when Roland brought home Ama trinckets from his many travels. Her face always seemed to brighten emensely and she always gave Roland a larger then life hug and kiss on the cheek.

Roland couldn't help but smile at her reaction. Amandine had an enthusiasm that was like sunshine, and even he wasn't immune to it. "You're welcome, Ama," he said. "I was right. It suits you perfectly."
Looking around the table, he continued, "So what have I missed while I've been gone? What's going on? I feel so out of touch... I really must work on sending you more letters while I'm away."

"Nothing far to interesting for me actually..." Amandine admitted. She risked a sideways glance at Jamie, but only for a second before turning back to Roland. "Just classes and such. Oh, and there was that aweful news about that girl, Katie Lawrence. That was quite upsetting also..." Ama had trouble keeping all her thoughts in order sometimes, and her words tended to spill out before she could think them all through.

Roland pressed his lips together. Yes, he had heard of Katie's death. It was one of the reasons he'd come back. He hadn't responded to the initial owl requesting him to come back, because he believed he had the death eaters cornered. He'd hoped to return from his mission triumphant. Instead, he'd failed to catch the guys, and he'd nearly been killed in the fight. He'd never tell his siblings how close he had come, however. He needed to be the strong one, and he couldn't allow them to worry about him. He was the one who was supposed to worry about them.
"Yes, I've heard about Katie's death. The ministry is in quite an uproar about it. That's why I want you all to be really careful, OK? Don't go anywhere alone, and especially don't go anywhere near the woods."

"What would we want in the woods anyway?" Amandine asked curiously. She had never felt drawn to explore the forrest like other students her age did. Truth of the matter, the forrest didn't seem like such a challenge, and it bored Ama greatly.
"Don't worry Roland, I don't go looking for trouble," she smiled sweetly.

Roland was satisfied with this answer. He was relieved to hear that Ama would keep herself safe. It was a good thing she wasn't like him... he had often wandered into the forbidden forest during his time at Hogwarts, for the sole reason that it was forbidden. He'd never admit it to his younger siblings, but he'd made it a practice to break as many rules as possible during his time at school. This was probably the reason he'd been the only member of the family who was sorted into Gryffindor, instead of Ravenclaw.
"I'm glad to hear that," he said, smiling softly at her. "And that goes for you, too, Jamie. Please don't go out of your way to look for trouble, OK? The good news is, it looks like I'm not going to be going away again for a while. I'll be able to visit you guys a little more often."

"You will," Amandine asked excitedly. "So you'll be home for the holiday?" she added on. "That's great, did you hear that Jamie!"
"How about you Cy, will you be home too?"

Cyrus smiled as Amandine's excitedness. She was always like that, so full of energy and Cyrus couldn't help but smile at that.
He sighed. Would he be home for the holidays? Cyrus wanted to bring Mara and Lina home with him for the holidays, but he wasn't sure how well that would sit with his parents. "I'm going to try to be home for the holidays," he said. Cyrus cast Roland a quick glance, then looked back to Amandine and put on a wide grin. "After all, I don't want to miss seeing my little sister's face Christmas morning."

She pretended she didn't see the look between Cyrus and Roland, and smiled at Cyrus. "I can't wait to see baby Mara's face on Christmas," she said. Ama wondered if Cyrus would bring Lina and Mara. Either way, it was going to be an eventful holiday.

Jamie had sat silent for a while now. His siblings were used to his terse demeanor, and it wasn't unusual for him to watch a conversation rather then be a part of it. He watched the expressions of his brothers, knowing Ama would catch them too.
Don't go looking for trouble, Roland had instructed.
Jamie bit his lip, running his teeth across the surface jaggedly in thought. What happened to Katie could easily happen to any little girl. He thought horribley about Mara and Ama, his two favorite girls. If anything happened, Jamie wasn't sure what he would do, but it defiantely wouldn't be pretty. He gave a small sigh.

Ama noticed that Roland and Cyrus both had a butterbeer with them. "I'm going to get a butterbeer, want one Jamie?" she asked. She stood up and brushed her skirt a bit before pushing in her chair and waiting for Jamie's answer.

He caught her eye and nodded twice, before looking at his brothers. He'd much prefer to hear what they were talking about, rather then kind talk for Ama and him. They weren't children, and he'd always liked listening to adults' conversations. They were much more interesting then people his own age. Adults actually talked about problems, and solutions. But teenagers just spent time talking about themselves

Roland watched as Amandine went up to get drinks for her and Jamie, then he turned to Cyrus. "You really should talk to Mum and Dad. You can't keep letting things go on like this. I've been gone for 5 months, and in all that time, nothing's changed. Do you want me to help you?"

As Ama got up and left the table, Cyrus sighed. "They don't really want to see me Roland," he said. "They don't even talk to me while we're in the same building. Beside, you don't need to become involved. They still want to talk to you. I can handle it myself. I don't need you to solve my problem for me." He didn't want Roland to fight his fight for him. If his parents didn't want to see him, then that was their problem. Roland shouldn't have to stand in and do anything.

"If you could handle it yourself, you should have already done so," Roland said, a hint of anger creeping into his voice. "The way it seems to me, I am the only one who actually gets things done around here, and when I go away, everything falls apart."
He took a sip from his butterbeer, again wishing it was something stronger. Cyrus frustrated him to no end. "You're just making excuses. It's time for you to do something. And if you won't do it, I will. Do you want to be disowned? Because I'm afraid that's where you're heading."

Cyrus could tell that there was anger rising in Roland's voice. It never failed that everytime that they saw each other, there would be some kind of argument involved. "No. You just want to make sure everything is going the way you want it to go," he said with a bit of anger. He didn't understand why Roland thought that he had to step in and fix everything.
"I'm not making excuses," said Cyrus. "I'm just stating the facts. They don't want to talk to me, and I'm not going to make them."

Roland sighed impatiently. Here it was again, the old argument. He was the bossy one, he was always trying to manipulate things and telling everyone what to do. Whenever Roland tried to help Cyrus, he always got the same complaints.
"Cyrus, I don't have an agenda. I just want what's best for you. And I want you back in the family. You heard Amandine, she wants to see you and Mara over Christmas, but you're so afraid to even talk to Mum and Dad, that right now, there's a very good chance you won't be there."

"Look, if they really want me there for Christmas they'll say something," Cyrus said. "Although for Ama, I will more than likely show up, even if they haven't said anything to me. It would be for Ama only." Cyrus would do just about anything for Amandine as well as Jamie. "I couldn't leave Lina out of this. It wouldn't be right. She has to be there too. Its their choice if they want to see me."

"You get a say in this, too, you know. If you want something, you have to do whatever it takes to get it. Just standing around waiting for something to happen never works."
Roland sighed again, then glanced up at the counter, where Amandine was still waiting for her drinks. "If you want Lina to be there... you need to talk to them. Try talking to them one at a time... just don't sit back and expect to be invited."

"And having Mum go into another one of her lectures about how she doesn't approve of Lina," Cyrus shot back, "That was one of the reasons I went off on my own in the first place." He didn't get why she didn't approve of Lina or really claim Mara as her granddaughter. It bothered Cyrus. "Dad might not have too much of a problem with it, but Mum would you know that." He eyed his almost empty glass of butterbeer. "And I know what I have to do. What if I go and tried to talk to them and they just seem to ignore me? That would be pointless. Like I said, I'll try and make it for Christmas, for Ama. I'll see how things go."
