"I learned my manners from my mum. I've just stuck with them because I knew if I slacked off when I was younger, she would have gotten me. It just became second nature." He gave another smile. "And don't worry, that secret is going to be kept quiet."
Just before she asked him her question, Jacob was going to ask her if she wanted to go to lunch one day, just as friends. He didn't get the chance to ask because her words were vocalized faster. "Help you find an apartment? Yeah, sure. That wouldn't be a problem. Just tell me what general area and I can more than likely tell you the best apartment building there."

Cynthia smiled. Why was she thinking about putting down roots here? She had to be crazy. But she was getting so tired of running away and of avoiding close relationships with people. She wanted to trust. She wanted to let someone in. And maybe Jacob wasn't that person... but maybe he was. And she'd never know if she ran right now.
Griffen thought she was dead. He couldn't believe it was her. He probably just thought she looked similar. A lot of time had passed. How could he be sure of anything?
These were the things she tried to convince herself of as she walked with Jacob. "I don't know if I want to stay in London, or if I want to try the Hogsmeade area. I've heard lovely things about it, but I've never been. Maybe we could go together."

"That's understandable. I actually live here in London, over in the Twilight Apartments. It's pretty nice over there. As for Hogsmeade, its pretty nice over there too. There you have the feel of a small village surrounding you rather than a big city. The Black Cat apartments are more than likely something that you want to look into if you go look for an apartment over there. Plus, Hogsmeade is not that far from the school."
Jacob nearly blushed at the idea of going to Hogsmeade with her. Jeez, he wasn't thirteen anymore. "Yeah, sure. I've got to go into work tomorrow morning and do a few things, but I should be free tomorrow evening before dark if you want to go then."

"That sounds good," Cynthia said, suddenly sounding very business-like.
At this point, she was not aware that they would be seeing each other before the arranged meeting for apartment hunting, so she simply said, "I should be finished at my job around the same time. It's my first day... I hope I meet some more people as nice as you are."
Oh, Merlin... what if Griffen worked at the Ministry? What would she do then? The thought was a stabbing pain in her chest, and she stumbled, suddenly unable to breathe for a minute.

"I'm sure that you're first day at work will be a pleasant one. People are usually nice to the new person. They want to try and see how they act, but then again I know you know that." Jacob smiled.
His smile faded and he stopped. "Cynthia?" He put his arm around her for support if she needed it.

Cynthia drew a shaky breath and forced her lips to curve into a smile. It came out looking more like a nervous tick. "S-sorry," she said softly. "Just a mini-panic attack. I guess I'm more nervous about my first day tomorrow than I realized. But you're right, I'm sure it will be fine. And I'll have tomorrow night to look forward to. We'll go to Hogsmeade and look at apartments. Maybe we could even grab a bite to eat while we're there."
Merlin... was she making a date with him?

"It's alright," he said. There was something in her eyes that made him not believe her, but he just went along with it. "I'm sure that whenever you get there, you will find out that you have nothing to be nervous about. Everything will work out for you." Jacob was trying to be optimistic for her and maybe help her get rid of whatever it was that was really making her nervous.
"Grabbing a bite to eat while we're there sounds great," said Jacob with his cheeks reddening slightly. "I don't really think I could ever so no to food." He gave a laugh.

Griffen might have thought many of the things Cynthia believed, that it had been too long, that he might have been hallucinating, hell that it was just some crazy mind trip, if it hadn't been for her eyes. As soon as they locked on to his own there was something inexplainable, something like a jolt of awareness. In that singular moment he was certain no one in the world had ever been more aware of him in his life, and the thrill, Merlin that thrill of being noticed was coursing through him like electric waves. He had never felt this before, he had never wanted the recognition, but there was something else in her eyes, something much mroe tantalizing, and that was fear.

Cynthia gave a nervous laugh. "I think that's true of most guys," she said. "Especially the single ones."
Then, as an attempt to bring it back to the lighter mood they had shared in the club, she added in a playful tone, "That is... you are single, right? You don't have a secret wife and child that you conveniently didn't tell me about?"

"Oh, about that," Jacob said making his face a serious one, "I do have erm, five wives I do believe it is, and I couldn't really tell you how many children I have, because I'm not even sure myself." After another serious second, Jacob started to laugh. "I'm only kidding. I could never have that many wives. I am single, promise." He grinned widely at her.
"You're not going to have some toned up boyfriend who's going to come after me for accompanying you home because he just got in from Australia or anything do you?"

For the first time since she'd spotted Griffen back in the club, Cynthia gave a genuine laugh. She already felt a little lighter, and she couldn't help but marvel at the fact that Jacob had such an effect on her.
"No... no, definitely not. Although there certainly wouldn't have been a shortage of guys fitting that description in Australia. But I... well, I usually tend to keep to myself... even back in Australia. But I think I'm starting to like it here."
The boarding house was just ahead, and she felt a little disappointed that her time with Jacob had to end.

"Good, 'cause I wouldn't want to have to beat him up in front of you," Jacob teased. He thought that her laugh sounded perfect, and he made a mental note to attempt to get her to do it again next time he saw her.
"I'm glad that you're liking it here already. England is not that bad." He gave her a wink. "Plus, I'm glad you came here. After all this place does need a little bit more of a varity and interesting things going on." Jacob's smile returned.
They arrived at the boarding house quicker than Jacob expected. He came to a slow stop and then turned to her. "Well, I had fun tonight," he said his hands going into his pockets. "Tomorrow seems like it will be fun too, so I am looking forward to it."

"Well, I guess we'll see how I like it when I see some more of the famous London fog and misty rain," Cynthia said with a smile. "I've heard sometimes you go for weeks without seeing the sun. It'll be something to get used to... the weather in Australia is usually very mild, or hot. Depending on where you live."
She held out her hand to shake his. "Well, Jacob. It was nice meeting you," she said. "I'm looking forward to tomorrow as well. Meeting with you will give me something good to think about after work.... I'm still a bit nervous about it."

"We do go for weeks at a time without seeing the sun, but its not that bad. At least it does not rain every single day." Jacob smiled again.
He reached his hand out and shook hers. "It was nice meeting you too. And tomorrow you'll do fine. I'm sure that people will like you. It will not be as bad as you think it will be." Jacob found that he was a little hesitant about letting her hand go, but he did nevertheless. "Besides, you have meeting me again tomorrow to look forward to despite how your work day goes," he added teasingly.
