Jacob walked into the new nightclub in London. He figured that he needed some time to relax before he would throw himself back into work. Things were getting crazy, and frankly, it was starting to become stressful. The only way to lose that stress was find some way to have fun.
He dressed in muggle clothing for the night. Jacob didn't feel like wearing the usual robes. Honestly, he could move better in muggle clothing. Jeans didn't hang to lose, or to tight, and his shirt wasn't too big or small either.
He pushed his sleeves up and walked up to the bar without a second thought. He thanked the bartender before going and taking a seat at an empty table.

Cynthia stepped into the club, feeling a nervous quiver in her stomach. She hated clubs. They were loud and obnoxious, with too many flashing lights. They always reeked of sweat and alcohol, the smell of which made her feel sick to her stomach.
But she had a job to do, and she couldn't just sit back and make excuses. One of the first things she had to do was to get the lay of the land, to meet people and become familiar. The best way to start with that was to go to a club. This one, she had been told, was the newest. It was a good place to see and be seen. So here she was.
Walking up to the bar, she ordered her usual drink, a club soda with a twist of lime. There was a good-looking young man, about her age, standing nearby, but she avoided his eyes, choosing instead to focus on the mirror behind the bar while she waited for her drink.

He was doing two things at once, which in this case wasn't too bad. Jacob was keeping an eye out for anything odd, and he was just trying to get rid of a bit of stress. Right now, he was going to just relax. After all, it was a little bit early. If there was going to be anything that happened, it was going to be a little later.
Jacob's looked in the mirror behind the bar, and they landed on a girl about his age, at least that was his guess. He looked away for a moment and took a drink before his eyes seemed to be magnetized toward the mirror so he could look at her again. Jacob tried to look away, he really did try, but he couldn't. With her looks, she was sure to have men stare at her all the time, and Jacob didn't want her to think that he was like them.
Finally, he tore his eyes away from the mirror and went to sit at a table and faced the direction of the bar. He couldn't help himself, his eyes went right back to her. Here, he couldn't really see her face all that well, but he didn't care. If he wouldn't look like such an idiot, he would have covered his eyes so he would stop, but Jacob didn't do it. His stare wasn't one of hunger, lust, or anything like that. It was just curiosity.

Cynthia didn't notice the man staring at her, and even if she had, it wouldn't have surprised her. She'd been getting that kind of look most of her life. It annoyed her in a way, but she was used to it. Although she didn't mind the occasional fling with a guy, Cynthia had no time for a relationship in her life. She preferred to stay single; it was easier that way.
Her drink was handed to her and she took a quick taste before turning to look around. The dance floor was crowded, and very few people were sitting down. Cynthia didn't like to dance very much. It seemed to be little more than an excuse for random strangers to grab and grope at her, and she hated it. She supposed for her cover, it might be a good idea to blend in and attempt to dance, but maybe it would help to find someone to dance with, who wouldn't get too fresh.
Looking around, she spotted the guy who had been standing next to her at the bar. He was staring at her. She wasn't surprised, but she was mildly annoyed by it. Why did they always have to stare?
Still... there was something about him. He had magnetic eyes of electric blue. And he was handsome... even more than she had realized. Intrigued, she found herself walking toward him.
"See something you like?" she asked in a flirty voice.

There was a faint hint that he was starting to grow facial hair again. It was time he shaved again. Maybe he should have shaved before he left his apartment.
Before he knew it the woman started walking toward him. In all honesty, Jacob had never turned red before, but there was a slight pink tint to his cheeks. He didn't mean to keep staring, because he knew that a girl like her would get all kinds of staring already. Jacob didn't mean anything by it really.
Jacob did pick up on the flirty voice, however his eyes remained soft and curious. "I didn't mean to keep staring like that," he said. "Although, I'm sure you get that all the time." A gentle smile spread across his face.

Cynthia noticed the blush and it made her feel a little better. He wasn't just some jerk. He at least had the manners to be embarassed about staring. He was also a little shy, which was also very good. And as she got closer, she realized that he was even cuter close up. She found herself smiling genuinely at him.
"It's okay," she said. "I do get it a lot, I guess. I don't usually even notice anymore. But it's not every day that I get it from someone as handsome as you are." Gesturing to the empty seat next to him, she continued, "Mind if I sit a while?"

The pink tint remained in his cheeks. Jacob now didn't really have to feel guilty about looking at her. After all, she came to him. He motioned to the seat next to him. "Oh no, not at all, go ahead," he said politely. "It's not everyday that I stare at someone either. I'm usually to busy to notice anyone really because I don't get that many chances to really go out anymore."
Jacob gave a shrug, but then held his hand out for her to shake. "But anyway, I'm Jacob. It's nice to meet you..."

Cynthia smiled and shook his hand. He had a nice, firm handshake, she noticed. She'd always believed that a good handshake could say a lot about a person's character, and he had a good one. "It's nice to meet you, Jacob," she said with a smile. "I'm Cynthia. Do you prefer to go by Jacob or Jake?"
She sat down across from him and took a quick sip of her drink. As she did, she studied him silently. She didn't trust easily, but there was something about this man that made her feel comfortable. His eyes could easily cloud a woman's judgement, but she fund she didn't mind that much.

"Cynthia," he said as he shook her hand. She, herself, had a firm handshake as well. Jacob started to smile at this. Not many people seemed to have a firm handshake, even if he did give one. "Either one is alright really. I'm not picky when it comes to that, so it's up to you, which one you call me." His smile was a friendly one.
The funny thing was, Jacob didn't really trust easily either. He had always had problems really trusting that many people, but Cynthia seemed like the kind of person he could actually trust. However, he was still going to be careful. He would just have to watch her.

He seemed nice enough. It was rare that she met a nice guy, especially in her line of work, and she was rather glad that he was there. It would make the evening a little more pleasant if she could pass it with someone who might actually keep his hands to himself and was capable of carrying on an intelligent conversation.
"Well, I'll just call you Jacob for now," she said. "Since we just met." She spoke with a light Australian accent, which had built up after living there for 5 years. Her German accent was all but gone. "So, I just got into town a few days ago and thought I'd check out the local night life. I understand this place is new?"

He just nodded his head when she said that she would call him Jacob. That wasn't a problem. Almost everyone called him Jacob any how. "Oh really," he said. "That's cool. Er, yeah, it's new. There's one in Hogsmeade, which is close to the school, called Spellbound. Either place is interesting to go to I guess. I didn't know that this place was even here until I came back home. I just recently got back from a trip I had to go on. I walked toward my apartment and it was here, so I decided I should check it out. I couldn't really tell you much about it honestly."

"The school?" Cynthia repeated. "You mean Hogwarts?" Of course she had heard of the school; it was the most well-known magical school in the world. "I've always wanted to see Hogwarts," she said with a smile. "Is it true that it's located in an old castle? It sounds so exotic. Did you go to Hogwarts?"
The talk about the past was a dangerous one, and Cynthia hoped she could steer him into talking about himself and away from talking about her. Although she had set up an elaborate and detailed history in Australia, complete with paperwork, the fact was, it was only on paper. She preferred to avoid discussing it with anyone who might dig below the surface to look for the truth.

"Yeah, Hogwarts," Jacob said. "And, it is true that it is located in an old castle. It's amazing all the time, but the best time to really see it is at night. I remember in my first year there riding in the little boats across the lake and seeing Hogwarts all lit up at night. It was amazing, and even though I'm now in my twenties, I still find it amazing. You should see it sometime."
He took a sip from his glass. "I did go there. I was in Gryffindor. It was a lot of fun really. My little sister is currently enrolled at Hogwarts. Which, that reminds me, I need to contact her tomorrow since I'm back. Anyhow, what school did you go to?"

"I'd love to come see it some time," Cynthia said, dimly aware of the fact that she was now talking about future plans with this man. "Maybe you could show me around."
When he asked her where she went to school, however, her guard went up again. She had known that bringing the topic up would lead to such a question, but she had hoped to avoid it. She paused to take a sip of her own drink, then looked back into his eyes. She wondered how many women had fallen victim to those beautiful eyes. "Oh, you probably haven't heard of it," she said. "It's a regional Australian school of magic."

Jacob could sense that she was a little uneasy talking about her past, so he wasn't going to make her go into great detail or anything. He didn't want to make her uneasy in any way. "Australia? I've been there once, of course it wasn't for pleasure at the time. Although, I did love it there. Hopefully one day I can just go on vacation there."
He took a drink from his glass. "Can't say that I have heard of it however." Jacob thought that it would be alright to slightly change the subject. "I would love to show you Hogwarts sometime. Like I said, it never ceases to amaze me, but then again it could just be me that thinks that."

Cynthia was relieved for the change of subject. "You should go to Australia some time," she said. "Of all the other places I've traveled to, there's really no place like Australia. But maybe it's just the old saying, 'there's no place like home.'" It was true; she may not have actually been born in Australia, like she told people, but she definitely considered the place to be her home. She'd fallen in love with the country, and she knew that, no matter what, she would always be glad to go back.
"I'll definitely make a note to go check out Hogwarts. Are there any other 'must see' places around here that I should check out?"

"Hopefully I'll get some time off that I can go there. I heard that swimming there is amazing. I would like to learn to scuba dive actually." Jacob peered at her over his glass before sitting it back down on the table.
"Maybe try to make a trip to view it at night, however, in the day, it's still fascinating." He thought for a moment. "Well, in all honesty, I don't really think so. If you like to go shopping, I recommend Hogsmeade, but then again that depends on what you're shopping for. Diagon Alley is pretty decent. I don't recommend Knockturn Alley. There are plenty of odd people there, and I don't mean to sound like I'm trying to tell you what to do or anything, but I wouldn't go down there alone if I were you. I mean, you're pretty after all, and there are more creepier people there, than you see anywhere else. Although, if you do want to go down there alone, I'm not going to stop you because you can make your own decisions, it was just a small bit of advice."

Cynthia blushed slightly when he said that she was pretty. The way he said it, not like it was a compliment, but rather like a statement of fact, sort of struck her interest. She always had people telling her that she was beautiful, usually accompanied by grabby hands and a clumsy attempt at a kiss. She was used to compliments, but they lost their impact to her, because people were always using them as an attempt to get her in bed. But Jacob was different. It was almost an objective comment, like saying that she was pretty was the same thing as saying that she was blonde.
But the talk of Knockturn Alley also interested her. A place where all the shady, creepy people liked to go? Perhaps it was the kind of place where dark wizards and death eaters might go? It was a useful tip. She would have to find a way to go there, perhaps in a disguise. If her job was to find these death eaters, she needed to know the kinds of places where they might go.
"I'll make a note of it," she said, smiling. "It doesn't sound like a very pleasant place to go, so I'll make sure I avoid it. Any other tips?"

An amused look was on his face as she smiled. "During the day it's alright. I've been there once or twice, but the people there like to grab at you, no matter who you are. But the obvious, watch the alleyways at night. There are vampires around. I haven't personally ran into any, but I've heard about some through work. Although, they're not posing a huge threat right now. Still, watch yourself. I'm sure they wouldn't think twice about not coming after you."
Jacob tried to think of anything else that she should know. "Other than that, I think you'll be just fine."

"Well, it all sounds very dangerous," Cynthia said, looking at him with interest. "It's a wonder people even walk the streets at night. Vampires are pretty tightly regulated in Australia, so we don't have a lot of them." Taking a sip of her drink, she thought a moment, trying to decide how best to word her next question. "I've also heard something about someone called Lord Voldemort, that he's making threats against the wizarding world, and even against muggles. Is he really as dangerous as they say?"
