"You definitely have a unique way of looking at things." he smiled at her, without thinking he brought his hand up to her chin to capture her attention, " Don't lose that." he told her softly. He knew too many jaded creatures, especially in his social circle, and to see her rising above it made him envious, and strangely protective for someone who had taught himself not to give a damn.

Allaire felt heat raising to her cheeks as Ashton brought her chin up. "I won't," she replied as she let her eyes meet his. There was something about him that seemed to make her really comfortable. She smiled again. She didn't plan on changing it.

In addition Ashton's fingertips felt a bit scorched, he pulled back quickly enough and laid a charming smile across his face to distract from his sudden spell, " And don't settle for less than your ideal." he said this time withdrawing from her a bit.

"I'll try not to, but I must not have my standards too high. I don't know if there is that perfect guy out there." Allaire didn't bother moving her eyes from him, and she did notice that he withdrawled a bit. The look on her face asked the question that didn't come out of her mouth. Her look was confused as to why he withdrew from her.
"Don't settle for less than whatever your's is either."

He gave her a small smile, it wasn't so much that he withdrew from her physically but the small tenderness that was in his eyes earlier, the moment they had shared, it had rocked him a bit and he wasn't ready for it so he had pulled back behind a facade of smiles and pleasant normal courtship.
" Perhaps someone will exceed my expectations."

"Hopefully so," Allaire said. She believed that everyone deserved the best for them and she hoped that Ashton would find whoever was best for him. She smiled again. She wasn't sure if she would find someone that would be her kind of perfect before her father wanted her to be betrothed to someone else, however she wouldn't stop looking from time to time.
"So, is this what you do on the weekends? Go to Hogsmeade and sit in the Library?"

He sighed and leaned back in his chair at her question with a soft smile attached to his face, "The way you put it I have no life." he teased then shrugged, "Sometimes." he answered honestly. He enjoyed books, he also went to various shops getting what he needed so he could make the potions he needed to make but other than that he preferred the library and solitary places.

She laughed softly. "Sorry," she said. Allaire relaxed in her chair as she turned in her chair facing him and folding her legs under her. She, herself, liked the solitary places. She wasn't a huge fan of being in the middle of large crowds, however when she was around her family she would bare it.
"The library is a great place to escape. I tend to like to leave all the shopping up to my sisters."

He laughed a bit then nodded, " I like to have time to myself, to think, crowds well for the most part people in general annoy me." he leaned back slightly then lifted his leg crossing his ankle over his knee. He had run out of things to say, although he entertained the thought of teasing her with what he ahd overheard.

Allaire nodded. "I'm the same way. I don't really like being in crowds that often. However, if my parents are doing something then I have to go along, but I try to stay in the back if I can." She shrugged. "It's Ophelia's job to be out and in the spotlight. I don't really care to much for it, but I do whatever is expected the majority of the time."

He nodded. "Yes. Fee." then he smiled. That seemed to cover the subject of one of her sisters, or rather the intonation behind his words. Nothing derogatory. No he was smart enough not to do something so stupid, but rather his tone held amusement. Fee loved the spotlight, as did Natasha. In comparison to them both Fee, at least to his knowledge was relatively harmless...Natasha on the other hand...
Then there was Samantha to contend with. She had come in like a tornado and he knew the aggravation it caused Natasha. He was faintly amused with the whole spectrum, still he could value that Allaire didn't care at all.

They didn't have to go into great detail about Fee. Everyone knew how well Ophelia loved the spotlight. "We she comes up, I just take a step back and let her have it. Being put in the spotlight is not really my thing. I would prefer being curled up with a good book by a fire and possibly have a mug of hot chocolate and a blanket." She gave a soft smile at the mental image that gave her. She did enjoy simple things such as that.

The same image came to his mind and he smiled with her. Another popped in his mind of him reading to her with the fire and the blanket... not a bad daydream as it were. "That does sound nice."
She was a Burke and he was...well no where near as dignified a name as her own, but who had to know if anything happened between them? Besides he was already spending enough attention on her that Devin would suspect...that was if Devin found out.
Immediately Ashton knew he couldn't let Devin find out about his little interest in Allaire Burke. Merlin damn the man he would go after her himself, and that wasn't to say that Ashton couldn't hold his own, but the thought of Allaire with Devin sent a cold shiver down his spine. When had he suddenly grown possessive? Surely it was just a temporary thing...still he wouldn't let Devin near her.

Her mental image changed to the same as Ashton's did. Since when did things like that pop in her head? However, she wouldn't have any objections if that did come true. Allaire pushed that out of her mind. Although, she knew that it would resurface.
"Yeah. It does. I like to do that whenever there's no one in the common room. It's nice and quite." She smiled again.

He grinned at her then, and leaned in to whisper, " It's empty in the morning." he informed her, " From 2 to the start of class." he informed her as if it were some secret. Since Ashton never slept he was accustomed to doing many of the things he wanted to do that required privacy during those hours.

When Ashton leaned close to her, Allaire felt heat rise in her cheeks and she sliently prayed that it wasn't evident on her cheeks. "Thanks," she replied. "On Tuesdays and Wednesdays the common room is usually empty from seven until ten. Although, next time I'm not able to sleep, I may go to the common room during that time."

He smiled at her, "I'll keep it in mind." his hand itched to reach and touch her cheek if only to assure himself that she couldn't possibly feel as soft as she looked but he reigned the impulse in.
He would definitely keep it in mind, but not to read during that time, rather to see if he could meet her there during that time when she would be alone.

Allaire had never gone to the common room early in the morning, however she thought that one morning she might make sure she was up to see if he was in there. Of course, she would try to make the real reason she was going to the common room that early a secret.
At that moment, Allaire wished that she had a girl that she could talk to about that kind of thing. If she talked to Kassia, she would probably try and talk her out of it. If she talked to Fee, well, she wasn't sure how that would turn out. Maybe she would try and talk to Fee about possibly liking someone.
She returned his smile. "Reading in front of a fire is always calming I think."

He grinned a bit, " I've always thought it a bit romantic." he commented, "I mean that both in a setting pertaining to couples, or just a singular person. Reading in front of the fire is timeless, add spiced cider and a blanket...and you've fulfilled something idealistic. Peace." he was musing his thoughts out loud and was surprised at how easily they were flowing from his mouth in front of her.

"Me too," Allaire agreed. "Speaking of spiced cider, I've been craving some. I'll get a cup before I head back to school." She was just making a mental note for herself, nothing special. "Having some kind of peace, if even for fifteen or thirty minutes, is the best thing. I don't know any other idealistic thing for peace." Allaire smiled again. "And of course it's the closest thing I can get to escaping what is going on."
