Again, Tyler listened to her every word with interest. He usually showed everyone his attention, but Ophelia had every bit of it. He wasn't working on anything else, he was just looking at her.
When she giggled, Tyler's smile resurfaced. "Well Ace, I hope you do find your Prince Charming one day." He gave her a wink. "I believe that you deserve all that and more. Of course you still have a little bit to find him, but I do wish you luck. It's important to be happy."
Tyler did hope that Ophelia did find her Prince Charming. Who ever she decided to pursue would be one lucky guy, he did know that much.

There was that nickname again. She was finding that it didn’t bother her as much as it had at first, but she wasn’t about to let him know that. “You must stop calling me that,” she said primly.
She tossed her head cutely, making her curls bounce. “Anyway, do you suppose you would know right away when you find that right person? Like, is it possible to fall in love at first sight?”

When Ophelia told him that he must stop calling her Ace, Tyler just smiled at her. He wasn't going to stop anytime soon, and the smile on his face said as much.
"Love at first sight? I don't know. I mean, I guess. It just depends on how much you believe in love at first sight. I think I'm a little sketchy when it comes to that, because that seems to be dealing with more a physical attraction rather than an emotional one. Then again, maybe I'm wrong. From what I've heard from my parents, although they were arranged to be married, my mother said that she felt a spark of something when she looked at my father, and my father said the same thing about her. So maybe, yes."

“But a physical attraction is important, don’t you think?” said Ophelia. “I mean, after all, a person’s appearance is still a part of them. It’s an outer expression of who they are on the inside. Like, if someone doesn’t really feel confident in who they are, they might not go to the effort to make themselves look good. But on the other hand, someone who feels good about themselves, it shows, because they take care of themselves. Right? Would you want to be with someone if you didn’t find them attractive? Do you think you could fall in love with someone who wasn’t attractive? I don’t know that I could.”
Ophelia didn’t realize that her self-centered logic didn’t really make sense. This was the way she saw things.

"In a way, I do agree with you, however there is also inner beauty. Yeah, I know it's cheesy but even if a girl is nice looking on the outside, it doesn't mean she's that way on the outside. Plus, once you know someone, their outside beauty could change completely. It could make them even more beautiful than what they already were, or it could make them ugly, even if they are physically attractive. For me, there does have to be some kind of physical attraction between me and the girl, however there also has to be emotion. Just going through the motions of being boyfriend/girlfriend doesn't mean anything if there's no emotion." Tyler paused and continued to look directly at her.
"There are some girls that are really and truly pretty, but they hide it because they're shy. Others know that they are pretty and fault it. I like a girl who is self-confident, but not too self-confident. She has to know that she is pretty, but she can't use that to get anyone she wants. You, for instance, know that you're pretty, or at least you seem to act like it. You keep yourself nice, clean, basically well-kept. Earlier tonight when you came into the kitchen, I thought you were pretty even then. I also noticed that you did 'freshen up' a little bit, but that's alright. You flaunt your beauty, but you don't really over flaunt it, from what I've really noticed so far. Understand?"

This was all very interesting to her, and she listened carefully. Now that she thought about it, there were people who looked pretty on the outside, who acted very ugly. Charlotte Monroe again came to mind. The girl was beautiful, but she was so nasty to people that it made her unattractive.
She also found herself trying to compare herself to the words that he said. And when he used her as an example, it brought a smile to her lips. Was he thinking the same way she was thinking?
Ophelia leaned across the table, so that their faces were only about a foot apart. "And why exactly are you using me as your example?" she teased.

"If you must know Ace," Tyler said giving a her a quick teasing look as he called her by the nickname again, "were an excellent example of what I was talking about." He smiled, but it wasn't an over confident one. "You're pretty and you know it. You like to look nice apparently. You take care of yourself. Honestly, I think you could look pretty in just about everything really. Take earlier in the kitchens, you looked just as pretty then as you do right now."
Tyler didn't lean anymore forward than he already was. He didn't want her to think that he was about to make a move on her or anything. Scaring her was the last thing on his mind.

Ophelia's cheeks colored at his words and she smiled shyly. Normally compliments didn't make her feel shy; she just ate them up eagerly. But somehow... the way he said them, his words affected her more deeply than usual. She tucked a hair behind her ear and looked up into his eyes, feeling a strange queasy sensation in her stomach.
"Thank you," she said softly. "I... you... You're..." She faltered, suddenly at a loss for words. "I like you, too," she said lamely. It didn't seem to fit what she was feeling at that moment.

For the first time in awhile, Tyler's cheeks held a pink tint to them. Usually his cheeks remained their normal color, but then again it wasn't every day a girl would tell him they liked him.
Tyler gave her another smile. He didn't tease her as she tripped over her words, he just listened carefully as she tried to put something together. Ophelia was adorable, but Tyler felt like there was something else that made him drawn to her.
Of course, he didn't think what she said was lame or anything like that, after all it was enough to actually make him turn pink. "Great," he said with his gentle smile. Tyler stratched the back of his neck. "Ace, do you want to go to the ball with me," Tyler said a little fast.

When he asked the question, Ophelia felt her heart speed up, and she broke into a broad smile. She even ignored the continued use of her new nickname. "Yes," she said happily. "Yes, I do believe I would be willing to do you the honor of accompanying you to the dance." Her words were formal, but the tone remained light and playful. She finished with an excited giggle.

Tyler wanted to let out a sigh of relief, but he held back. He let out a chuckle as she giggled, and a smile remained on his face. "Excellent," he replied. "Now I've got to go try on the dress robes that are in my trunk." His tone was light ust as hers was. "And I promise they are not frilly in anyway. If they are too small, then I shall go out buy new ones."

Ophelia blushed and began twisting her hair around her finger again. "I'm sure you'll look great," she said. "I've been looking at dresses already, but I don't have anything picked out yet... but I can tell you it will be perfect! But I won't say more about it, so I can surprise you."
It occurred to her that she really knew nothing about this boy. Her family might not approve, but she could tell them it was only for one night. And besides, she still had a strict look-but-don't-touch policy. It wasn't like anything inappropriate could happen at the dance. Still, between now and the dance, she would have to find out more about him--his family, his connections, things like that.

Tyler still had an amused look on his face as she talked about dresses. He could tell that she was excited. "Surprises can be nice sometimes. I know that your surprise should just probably knock all the breath out of me."
It also occured to Tyler that he didn't really know too much about Ophelia either. There was going to have to be a change in that because he knew that his mother would want to know, and Tyler wanted to have something to tell her about Ophelia, other than her last name was Burke. "You know, we're going to the dance with each other, but we don't really know too much about the other. So, Ace, why don't you go first since ladies are supposed to go first any how."

Ophelia gave a playful smile. "Well, honestly, I'm very surprised you haven't heard of my family. The Burkes are one of the oldest pureblood families in the wizarding world. Our ancestors helped found Borgin and Burkes, a very well known shop in Knockturn Alley. I think we're still part owners, but we don't do much with it anymore, we leave it to the Borgins. It's just as well, because it's kind of a dirty, cobwebby place. And I don't like Knockturn Alley. It smells funny." She made a face. She could have added that she was rather glad that her family wasn't closer to the Borgins. She was secretly worried that one of the Borgin boys might be intended for her fiance. They weren't bad-looking, of course, but Ophelia was still set on choosing her own husband.
"Anyway, I have an older brother, Jadon, and two younger sisters. They're twins, actually. You met Kassia. My other sister is Allaire. She doesn't look that much like Kassia... they're not identical."

"Honestly, I have heard of your family, I just didn't know any of you except for your father," Tyler said after listening to Ophelia with interest. "I guess you can say that I haven't really kept up with who's who anymore." He gave a slight shrug. "After all it's the person that makes the name, not the name that makes the person."
He gave her a gentle smile. "So I guess it's my turn. I have an older sister, Rosalie, who has moved to Scotland. I don't think I could have asked for a better sister growing up. I grew up with my grandfather in place of my father most of the time. He has always been away on business, so my grandfather and my mother practically raised me on their own. My grandfather believes in the strict raising of a wealthy pureblood, while my mother is a little more on the side of we have to have room to grow ourselves. As for family business, my father has never really gone into detail about what he does other than travel."

Ophelia brightened as he talked about himself. He was a pureblood... and he was wealthy. These were good things. She didn't particularly care about blood purity for herself, but Daddy would have a problem with her being involved with someone who wasn't a pureblood. And she wouldn't want to disappoint Daddy... she was supposed to be perfect.
But the fact that he was wealthy... well, Ophelia couldn't deny that she considered this very important. After all, she had become accustomed to having all the amenities that came from being part of a rich family. She liked to spend money, to buy clothes and other things, and she expected to have house elves to wait on her. She didn't think she could live without these things. If Tyler's family was rich, she wouldn't have to.
But then... she was only going to the dance with him; she wasn't marrying him. Not yet, anyway. And there was no point in rushing things.
"That sounds nice," she said. "But it's too bad you're not close to your father. I'm very close to my daddy... he calls me his perfect little princess."

"Well, my father and I are sort of close, we just don't really get to talk face to face that much," said Tyler. A smile stretched across his face as she told him with her father called her. "Well, he has every right to call you that." Of course, Tyler was complimenting her. It just seemed to come out naturally.
"My grandfather and I are the ones that are not really close. My mother and I are somewhat close, but the closest person I have to me is Rosalie." He studied her for a moment. She seemed somewhat pleased with his family and of course he was pleased himself for that. For some reason, he wanted her to accept him for some reason that he didn't understand. Usually, Tyler didn't care what people thought.

Ophelia smiled at the compliment. She liked being her daddy's princess, and she liked to believe that it meant that she was the favorite of all the daughters. It wasn't that she didn't think her sisters were worthy of an equal amount of affection; she did love them in her way. But she had a need to be the best, the prettiest, the perfect one. She was eager to win her parents' approval. "I'm probably closest to Jadon, my older brother," she said. "My sisters are great, too... Allaire is always reading. And Kassia... well, I always get the feeling that she's checking up on me, like she's the big sister, and not the younger sister. She drives me crazy sometimes."

"Ah. I think she was just eying me in the kitchens to make sure I wasn't going to do anything I wasn't supposed to," Tyler said. "Although, in a way, her keeping an eye out for you could be a good thing. At least she's not doing it to stalk you or anything. I think she's just making sure that you're okay. And I know, I know, you think that she could let up a little bit. But, at least she loves you and doesn't despise you."
Since Tyler was taking Ophelia to the dance, the thought just struck him of did he have to meet her entire family? He wouldn't have a problem with that. Of course he would be on his best behavior and be polite like he should be.

Ophelia rolled her eyes. "What could you possibly have done in the middle of the kitchen with all those house elves around? And I'm the older sister, I'm supposed to be looking out for her, not the other way around. That's the thing about Kassi. She is always trying to be the mother to everyone. It's so annoying." Then she sighed. "But I do love her... I just wish she'd stop hovering sometimes. It's so undignified."
