Zachary shook his head. "You can keep telling yourself that, Edmund, but I saw you with her. I even heard a few of the things you said to her. And believe me, you're in love with her. You're absolutely crazy about her. And I'm telling you... I've been there. It's not pretty."
He clapped Edmund on the back, then poured himself a glass of firewhiskey. "I guess it was bound to happen to us sooner or later..."

Derek had quickly fallen into the enchantments of the girl in front of him and was surprised to find himself in tune with what she was saying so much so that he had missed his niece leaving, and the spat between his friend and some...girl...dear that never boded well. He did however catch Zach moving to help and he would of course have to follow suit.
He turned to Becky again, " It would appear there's trouble afoot." he said with an amused drawl, "Please, Becky, accept my humble apologies as I attempt to sort this out." he held her eyes for a moment before taking her hand, he pressed his lips to her knuckles then again to the inside of her wrist.

Becky blushed at his kiss. She had never known anyone like him, and his attentions were flattering. But she also understood that friends were important, and when she saw the little spat take place, she understood fully why he had to go. "Yes, of course," she replied. "Good luck. I... may stick around for a little while," she added hopefully.

He grinned at her words, " I may come and find you." he told her with a cheeky look before turning to see what was wrong with Edmund.
He arrived only to catch the tail end of what Zach was saying and he stopped, "Good Godric no not you too." he groaned and ordered a round of something strong for the three of them.

Edmund turned toward Derek. "What do you mean, not me, too? I'm telling you, I'm not in love with her. She just makes me crazy because she keeps denying me. It's this little dance between us. She's kept me running around for years, actually. Every time I think I'm winning, she pulls away. Drives me crazy. But I'll have her eventually, and until then, I can't get her out of my blood."

Derek was close to groaning again if only because Edmund sounded very much like a man in love, or in heavy heavy lust. Perhaps he would get over the girl when he had bedded her, but when the chase goes on for so long a fellow starts to get crazy thoughts, or hell who knew, maybe Edmund really had gone off the deep end like Zach apparently had. All Derek could do was sigh. Of course he had fallen for the love trap years ago and was now much more wise, more callous to anything resembling love his friends were not so jaded.
"Tell us about her."

Edmund let out a sigh. Taking a long swill from his drink, he appeared to be thinking over whether he wanted to talk about her or not. In the end, he shrugged and looked over at his two friends. "I met her about two years ago. We had a little flirtation going on at the time... nothing serious. She always had an answer for whatever joke I made, whatever move I tried to make. I was on the verge of getting together with her then, and she just took off. I don't even know where she went. I probably would have been fine if that was the last I'd ever seen of her. But then, a few months ago, she turned back up in my life. We ran into each other here, actually. Ever since then it's just been a push and pull between us."

Which makes her impossible to forget. The conquest he never ..."conquested" Derek sighed. Maybe love. Maybe not, but definitely something bordering obsession at this point. If it had gone on this long without some sort of resolution then certainly that interest flared could have some potentially lasting affects on his friend, and while Zach was currently deluded into thinking he was in love that left Derek alone and helpless supposedly. He didn't like that position at all.
"And your next course of action?"

Edmund frowned deeply. "Don't look at me like that, Derek," he said in a sour tone. Claire had left him feeling sickeningly vulnerable, and he realized that he'd said some things to her that he probably shouldn't have. He'd come very close to making her promises. But it was becoming increasingly difficult to think clearly around her. Still, he refused to admit that he was in love with her. He was Edmund Fairfax. He didn't fall in love. Zachary might have fooled himself into thinking he was in love with some woman, but not Edmund. That simply wasn't him. He was not going to be that guy.
"I imagine I'll find some pretty, eager young thing to distract myself with for the evening," Edmund replied, trying to sound almost bored with the prospect. "And there's a girl I met the other night that I'm trying to pursue. She's tough, but I think she'll be easier than Claire. I just have to pour on the famous Fairfax charm. As for Claire, well... the hell with her."

It was very hard not to smile at Edmund's words as he tried to convince himself that he wasn't in love with this girl. Derek however didn't underestimate love, he remembered what a fool it had made him and he was worried about his friends and what a fool thing love was. Were his friends in danger? Well they very well may be if love had sunk it's hooks into them.
"You're right Edmund. A girl is just the thing.." he said agreeing well enough.

Edmund continued to stare at Derek. There was something in his tone, something that vaguely resembled pity. It annoyed him. Zach, on the other hand, seemed to be in far deeper than Edmund would have expected. He'd been gone so long, but it still seemed hard to imagine that Zachary Scotts would have fallen in love.
"I know what you're thinking," Edmund said, frowning at Derek. "I have not lost my touch, and I'm not about to do anything crazy, like propose to her or anything. Damn Claire... she drives me crazy, but not that crazy!"

Derek's brows rose and his eyes met Edmund's sharply. Derek himself hadn't said anything about marriage, no that had been Edmund's word...dear Godric...marriage? Was the man for real? Derek could only hope not. Otherwise the trinity was truly good and gone, and he the last one standing. Of course he expected as much, since he was more jaded in terms of love than he knew either of his friends to be, and perhaps he was happy that way, but it would be very lonely pretty soon.
"Of course not."

Zachary, meanwhile was greatly amused by this turn of events. He'd been close enough to hear much of what Edmund had said to Claire, and he knew that his friend was in pretty deep. He could deny it all he wanted, but the truth was obvious. And now Zach didn't feel quite so all alone. If even Edmund could fall in love, then his current predicament wasn't quite so shocking after all.
"Well, I'm sure we can find you someone to help you forget for the evening," he replied casually, looking around the club.

Derek grinned, " That sounds like a good idea." of course he was always happy to oblige where females were concerned, and right now it looked as if Edmund needed an obliging female. It wouldn't be hard for Edmund, hell it was easy for all three of them to have their flings. Whenever they did decide to settle down and raise a family, heaven forbid, their wives would have to be made of something stern not to be distressed by whatever masculine attraction made females fall all over them.
On the other hand ex rakes make the best husbands, and were any of them to fall in love, really truly fall in love, then the recipient of that love would have no doubts in her mind where they were concerned.
Derek prayed that it never happened to him again.

Edmund was more than ready to stop thinking about Claire. Damn Claire. She always did this to him, and he was reaching a breaking point. He definitely needed a distraction, and as glad as he was to see his friends again, they sure as hell weren't going to cut it. He took another sip of his firewhiskey, then turned around. "Hm... Zach, the brunette you were talking to earlier is still here... she's rather lovely. Do you think she would work? Or did you want to try for her?"

Derek smiled though he had lost track of his own quarry that evening and it was a shame, the girl looked sweet and delectable, and he was prepared to savor her in his own tender way. Though at the moment he was feeling less than tender towards the opposite sex and their abilities which seemed to cripple men, even staunch bachelors like the Unholy Trinity were affected. It was a shame, a damn shame.

Sasmita was standing outside the club, looking disappointed. She was supposed to have met someone here, a good friend, and she just received an owl from him, canceling. What was she supposed to do, go home? That idea didn't sound particularly exiting, so with a soft sigh and a nod, she turned and went inside. What could it hurt? If it was boring, she could always go home.
She went up to the bar, not far from where the three men were conversing, and ordered a drink, turning so that she could watch the crowd.

The timing was perfect. He had just started looking around when she walked in. He spotted her immediately, and his eyes followed her as she came close to them and sat down at the bar. A slow smile curved across his face. She was exotic, yet innocent. Dark, not light. The exact opposite of Claire. Just what he needed.
Turning to Derek and Zach with a smirk, he said, "I think I've found the cure for what ails me," he said. "Excuse me."
He took one last sip from his drink and then stood up, moving over to the spot where the woman was now sitting. "Pardon me, is this seat taken?" he asked, nodding to the stool next to her.

Sas glanced up, the man arriving the same time as he drink, and she took the glass in her hand. That was quick, she though. She had barely sat down before he was there, and her eyes drifted to the two men close by. He had probably been with them.
She knew what he was doing, but she was too nice to turn him away, and what was the harm in it anyway?
"It's all yours."

Edmund sat down, then waved the bartender over for a refill of his drink. "I don't recall seeing you in here before," he said. "Are you new in town?"
She seemed the type to take things slow, so he eased himself into the conversation. Besides, he was still smarting from his conversation with Claire.
