"He'll be so thrilled to hear it," Gwen murmured, giving her mother a look. She felt closer to her mother simply because they had the common ground of being women in a house full of boys.
She smoothed out her robes though and put on a dazzling smile, ready to meet her aunt.

Tanya smiled and led him out of her door so they could apparate to her brother's home. She leaned forward to run her hand along his body before apparating away. As she stepped onto the street in front of her brother's home, the same house she herself had grown up in she smiled. It was still her home even if she no longer lived there since childhood. Her brother was the family patriarch now and had inherited the family estates. Alec apparated in just after Tanya. He saw her just ahead of him and walked quickly to catch up. Then he turned his attention to the house. It was a large house, even bigger than his own family's estate. It was a little known secret that Alec also came from a large, wealthy family, so coming here felt eerily familiar. Rather like visiting his parents on the odd Christmas holiday. Most of his siblings were married, with children of their own. They seemed to swarm the place, like locusts. The last time he'd gone was about four years ago. Since then, he hadn't bothered to come back. "Lovely place your family's got here," he said gruffly, more to be polite than because he was in any way impressed.

Tanya chuckled at his comment that he obviously didn't mean, not that it mattered if he was impressed with the place. As long as his eyes were on her, she didn't mind what else impressed him or not. She hadn't brought him here to impress him. She enjoyed having a man on her arm that she could enjoy, especially one who had some favor with the Dark Lord as she. And she actually wanted her brother to meet Alec though more for business than pleasure. The pleasure would come later when she got Alec alone again. She had already told him about her brother and sister's status with the Dark Lord, though she suspected he already knew and wasn't sure if that was why he'd agreed to come or if it was her. But either way, she'd gotten her man and she could enjoy torturing him throughout the night and late into the morning.
"Let's go I'm sure they're all waiting like usual. I just hope that this time my neice dresses like a proper witch, or I'll have to intervene with my sister-in-law on her behalf." She took Alec's hand and placed it percisely on her waist before leading him up to the door where after knocking she was met with one of the house elves and waited in the foyer.

Thatcher turned on his daughter. Only she and Timothy remained.
"What did I just say, Guinevere?" His voice was a low growl, and it caused his daughter to stop abruptly and look up at him.
He glanced at Alicia. "They push their limits too much. We need to do something about them." He often let them get away with too much, mostly for his wife's sake, but his daughter was about two graduate, and them Timothy right behind her. He couldn't afford to have them out in the world tarnishing the family name.

Gwen gave a sideways look to her brother, and then decided that she likely didn't want to be there for the conversation that would inevitably follow.
She kept walking, leaving her parents behind, as well as Tim, unless he followed.
"Aunt Tanya!" She gushed, stepping into the foyer. "It's so good to see you. And you, sir," she added, doing a small courstey for her date. "Welcome to the Scotts Estates."

Tanya turned to see Guinevere first and smiled at her niece. Of course the first thing she did was twirl her finger in her normal fashion that indicated Gwen should turn around so Tanya could see what the girl was wearing. This time of course she approved, "you look very nice tonight Gwen, you should really dress like that more often you know. It becomes you and befits your status, very beautiful. Come give me a hug."
Tanya loved her niece and nephews, almost doted on them, but always made very clear that she had certain expectations that should be met for their status and would ensure their father would be given words if they disgraced the family in her presence. She knew her brother had a soft spot for his children as well, but there were times where he really should put his foot down more.
"Guinevere this is Mr. Mapplethorne, Alec this is my only neice, Gwen." Tanya knew that she liked to go by Gwen but sometimes she still slipped and called her by her full first name.

Gwen refrained from rolling her eyes and turned a circle for her aunt.
She thanked her, and then hugged her, glad they got that out of the way early enough, though part of her still wished she had put on that muggle dress.
"Mr. Mapplethorne, if you'll please call me Gwen. It's a pleasure." Well, that would remain to be seen, but there was no need to start off rude and unwelcoming. "Mother and Father are on their way, of course."

Timothy followed Gwen into the foyer as he heard his older sister kissing up to their aunt. As he entered he saw Aunt Tanya and the strange man she had brought as a date. "Auntie Tanya!" Beaming at his favorite aunt, regardless of her lack of personality he bowed to the strange men. "Good evening sir."

Tanya opened her arms to her eldest nephew, the white sheep of the family so to speak. The little rebel, as she thought of him, was beaming just a bit too brightly but she gave him a hug. She didn't even attempt to look him over other than to straighten a piece of hair that had fallen over his eyes as she kissed his forehead. "Alec this is my oldest nephew, Timothy," she said giving him the dutiful introductions.. she knew he was ready to leave already but this was a fun type of torture to her. She knew Alec would be rewarded later for his ..suffering.

Xavier had gone looking for Thane, and was not surprised to find him in the library, with his nose buried in a book. He sighed... Mum wanted him to be nice, but sometimes, Thane just made it too easy to pick on him. He was tempted to go over and knock the book out of his brainy brother's hands. But he didn't. Instead, he stood against the wall and watched for a minute, then walked over and slammed the door loudly.
"Thane! Hey, bookworm, get in here. Aunt Tanya is here with her date."

Thane dropped the book loosing his place and jumping in the air when the door slammed. He about ate his own heart and then saw his snotty little brother smirking at him. "Bro you made me loose my spot!" He ran over to tackle his brother and mess up his hair just because he could.

Xavier quickly attempted to dodge his brother's attack, holding his hands out protectively. Thane was only a year older than he was, so, of all of his siblings, he was least intimidated by him. They fought often, but now was not the time. "Hey! Mum told me to be nice, so no fighting! Aunt Tanya is here. You can read your stupid book later. Come on!"

Thane grumbled and stopped when Xavier mentioned that mom had essentially said no fighting. His brother deserved it though and he couldn't resist reaching out to still try to mess up his brother's hair when they started to walk out. He loved his brother but he was so annoying sometimes. And technically messing up his brother's hair was not fighting. His book lay forgotten on the floor however as he left to see his aunt Tanya.

Xavier squirmed away from his older brother, trying to swipe his hands away from his hair. "Come on, Thane, not the hair!" he groaned, annoyed. Sometimes it really sucked being the youngest. Oh, who was he kidding... it always sucked being the youngest.
He grabbed Thane by the ear and dragged him into the foyer with the rest of the family. "Aunt Tanya!" he said, breaking into a smile. He knew he was his aunt's favorite, so he threw his arms around her. "And good evening to you, too, sir," he said, turning to Alec with a serious expression.

"Ow ow ow ow! XAV, lemmie go!!!" He managed to get free before they reached the door. He was so annoying, just because he was the golden child he thought he could get away with anything. He'd find a way to get him back later, he could at least outsmart him somehow when the opportunity presented itself.
He straightened his shirt when he saw his Aunt Tanya. Of course Xavier got the attention first but Thane dutifully stood by "Hello Aunt Tanya.... Sir..." He nodded to the man next to his aunt, another of her dates. Though he noticed this one seemed more gruff than most and seemed to have his eyes mainly on his aunt.

Tanya hugged her favorite nephew first, of course. He was her pride and joy, respectful to his elders and of course, most importantly, he was in Slytherin. "Xavier!!" She gave him a great big hug and kissed his cheek fondly. He really was such a perfect child, and she loved getting to see him most of all her family. "Xavier, I'd like for you to meet my date, Alec Maplethorne. Alec this is the boy I was telling you about yesterday. I wouldn't be surprised if he was the head boy in Slytherin when he's older. He's the perfect child." She doted openly on her favorite.
Then she saw Thane, and reached to give him a hug as well. For the smartest child, he was the most forgetful. One day he'd forget his head, if his sister wasn't around to find it. She knew it, though she didn't say anything. After all she suspected they were all on their best behavior when she visited, but then again she expected it and would have been disappointed if they weren't. "And this is Thane, the brains of the family."
She smiled as the four children dutifully lined up for her normal inspection and then she asked, "where are your parents, children?"

Gwen had to turn away as she doted on Xavier, rolling her eyes so that her two other brothers could see her. Of course Xavier was the child she told others about. The rest of them just weren't quite good enough.
How did she explain to her aunt that her parents were in the hallway, exchanging words because of her? Well, all of them, but she had been the one to finally push Thatcher over the edge.
"They're making sure everything is ready in the kitchen, and then they'll be right out."

Alicia put an hand on Thatcher's arm. "Well, let's not worry about that right now alright? We'll worry about that after dinner. After dinner is when we'll worry about it. Let's just have a nice family dinner as planned. I might have a surprise for you afterwords." She gave him a wink along with a grin. "Come on, we must not keep your sister and her date waiting."
She walked with Thatcher to the hall. Upon seeing Tanya, Alicia set a smile on her face. "Tanya! It's so good to see you again," she greeted.

Tanya vaguely wondered what would have kept them waiting, she knew that Alicia enjoyed her kitchens, but it wasn't really like her to not be there to supervise her children when they came to greet her. At least today they had all behaved so far, perhaps there was hope for them yet. Of course Xavier was always perfect, she had no doubt about his loyalties to the family.. it was the other three which did not always show their best foot forward. Thane she still had hope for, he was forgetful but not willful and he was very intelligent. Timothy she was giving up hope on, he was the heart of the family but Hufflepuff? seriously? It was still a disappointment. And then there was the willful and beautiful Guinevere. She would definitely need to talk to her brother about her, she really should be given a good match. Someone who could set her straight and be a proper lady.
"Alicia, my dear. You are looking beautiful tonight, I'm sure my brother is having trouble keeping his eyes off you." She always made an effort to asses the appearance of her family, and praise where it was due. She did love her family but she did have certain expectations and it was a credit to Alicia that she always managed to succeed where her children didn't always manage.

Thatcher gave his wife a look that said this certainly was not the end of the conversation, but he let her win, as he usually did. It was odd what love and a beautiful woman would do to a man.
He joined her a moment later in the foyer, moving past his children to hug his sister. "I'm glad you could make it," he told her, and extended a hand to Alec, welcoming him into his home.
