"Water." she replied simply, this wasn't the hog's head and she wasn't dressed for beer, not that she needed anything alcoholic to go on a date with him...even if she might have preferred it. She smiled at Vaughn and his "ladies first" Gentlemen were hard to come by, she wondered what his flaw would be, and how the prince charming mask might someday come off.

"I would like the same if you don't mind," he said to the waiter. Tonight was not a night to drink. After all, he was going to try and be calm. Plus, he wanted to do this night on his own and not with the help of alcohol.
The waiter disappeared and then looked across the table at Nikita. "So," he said clearing his throat. "How are your classes going?"

A spark of interest lit her eyes but she sighed and shook her head, " Well...I think. I'm new at this whole teacher business. I think there are some students who enjoy the way I teach, and others who ...well are just short of wanting to boil me alive." she shrugged, "But they're learning and that's what's important."

Vaughn cracked a smile. He could hardly imagine someone disliking Nikita. She was pretty, and she seemed like a nice woman. Nothing like what he thought of when he read about her. For once in his life, Vaughn was glad that he was wrong. "That's true. As long as they are learning, that's what matters. I remember Transfiguration. It was one of my favorite classes. The professor at the time was pretty nice. She wrote the lesson on the board, and then we had to go on our own."

Nikita blushed slightly, "I don't use a lesson board." she said with a sigh, " I think the kids are having fun doing it my way though." she hoped, she wanted to make it as a teacher for as long as she could. "So how's ministry work?" she asked turning the heat off of herself.

"I'm glad that you are enjoying your work. Not just anyone could be a professor." Once again, Vaughn forgot about her file and just went with whatever came out of his mouth. He wasn't going to treat her like a criminal, because she wasn't really. She was just another human being. Another human being who happened to a girl, a very pretty girl, and they were having dinner together.
"Ah ministry work. It varies from time to time. Sometimes I run around the ministry trying to get things to certain places, or of course there's meetings from time to time. Most of the time it is paperwork though. The new Minister of Magic is trying to get everything back on track and I respect him for that. He's a pretty nice guy really. The complete opposite of Craven, which is what we need."

She nodded, " I've never known anyone in the Ministry before." well not personally anyway, they had come after her before but that was about it. "Do you like working there?" she asked. Wouldn't it be wonderful if he said that he didn't? If he thought that the Ministry was corrupt and that the reports were all wrong. She laughed to herself of course that wouldn't happen and he would one day find out who she was and probably come after her himself, none of them would ever get the true story.

"You're the first person I've talked to outside the ministry, actually, you're the first person I've talked to in a 'normal' conversation with in several years." Vaughn rubbed the back of his neck. At least she didn't turn and run when he had told her that he hadn't really had any other social interactions outside of his job.
"Well, working on paperwork is something I dislike. It just takes forever. I would rather be out there working on anything but paperwork. Plus, it's a downside working there considering all the rumors milling about. None of them are true. It's just like people want an anarchy. The ministry is slowly getting back on its feet and people like to try to destroy anyone they can so they will fall back down again."

She raised her eyebrows when he dropped that she was the first person he'd talked to outside of Ministry for a while, that was a surprise, so he was in deep, well that wasn't much of a surprise but it wasn't endearing, a part of her was disappointed, he would never leave the Ministry for her, not that she really thought that was an option or really that theirs could be anything but a passing infatuation, she couldn't and wouldn't get involved with someone from the ministry.
"It sounds difficult."

"It can be difficult sometimes, but as long as you know what to ignore it's not that bad," said Vaughn with a shrug. He didn't really want to talk about his work anymore. After all, he was going to relax tonight.
He cleared his throat quietly and then looked over his menu. Vaughn honestly didn't know anything that was good here. "So, Nikita, do you know what is good here?"

Nikita glanced at the menu she wasn't sure either, it had been a while since she went out for anything but alcohol she wasn't an alcoholic but why spend money when the houselves could fix her whatever she wanted. She couldn't exactly get alcohol at the school, " Be adventurous and I'll join you." she said a challenging spark in her eyes.

She liked to be adventurous. Vaughn liked that. She was willing to step out of her comfort zone, and that was a big plus for him. Wait. What was he doing? It wasn't like he was going to go out with her or anything. It was just trying to become friends with her. Yes. That is all it was. Just a friend thing, or so he kept telling himself.
"Hm. The Filet of Beef sounds pretty good," he said as he looked over the menu. "What about you?"

Being his friend was stretching it, Nikita didn't have many friends, and none were from the Ministry. What's more however, if she ever were to find out that she was just a job to him their relationship would be over...and quite bitterly at that.
Then there was her past to contend with, she didn't know he had a few ideas that she wasn't a squeaky clean teacher from the right side of the tracks and instead thought that she was probably a black widow...men just died around her mysteriously.

The heck with whatever her file said. Whoever made her file didn't account for her being good company. Vaughn decided that he wasn't going to reference her file. He was just going to go into it and hope for the best. Maybe she wasn't as bad as her file said, and that was what Vaughn was aiming for.
The waiter reappeared. "May I have your order," he said.
Vaughn looked to Nikita. "What would like like Nikita?"

Nikita glanced at her menu again and pointed to her selection. When she was finished she handed the waiter her menu and took a sip of her water before tossing her hair back behind her shoulders. Her fingers came to a necklace that dangled down and left off beneath her dress, she fiddled with the chain while waiting for Vaughn to make his choice.

Vaughn told the waiter his order and handed him his menu after giving a 'thank you'. The waiter disappeared, and Vaughn looked back to Nikita. She didn't seem like she was going to be much of a talker. He hoped that he didn't have to be to one talking all night. There must be something he could get her going on.
"So, Nikita," said Vaughn. He admired how her hair fell behind her shoulders. The wonder of if it was soft and silky entered his mind, but he quickly pushed it away. "What caused you to decide to go into teaching, if you don't mind me asking."

"Oh no... I don't mind, but it's hard to explain really, I guess school was the only place I ever felt I even mildly belonged. I grew up in an orphanage just south of London, and well an orphan in a muggle orphanage that strange things happened to wasn't exactly appealing." she shrugged, as if to say it happens, " but then I got my letter, and I went to the school...and things were different, I can't confess to many friendships, but I wasn't quite so on my own anymore people understood, magic at least." she laughed, "I didn't even like my classes...I guess that also had something to do with it, going back...maybe changing a few things spicing up learning...it's surprisingly...fulfilling."

Vaughn listened to her with interest. "I'm glad that you are finding some kind of fulfilment. It's always important to find something that you like to do." He took a sip of his drink casually. "You know, we both attended Hogwarts, and I don't really remember seeing you there. I guess we were wrapped up in each of our own thing then, huh?" A smile crossed his face. Vaughn wasn't sure how things would have ever turned out if he really knew Nikita during school. Maybe things would be different than they were now.

She shook her head, " I was into my studies." she said as if that were the reason, really the part of her that was fascinated by a world of magic also was terrified of a world with magical people, and for good reason people were extraordinarly screwed up sometimes, and she had the unfortunate circumstance of knowing quite a few of said screwed up people.

"As was I," he said. "I knew that I wanted to do something, but yet I knew that I didn't want to be an auror or anything like that. I wanted to do something different. Now I just have a random ministry job, trying to help it get back on track. I've never seen anything in such a mess. Everything is out of order. It's ridiculous really." Vaughn gave his head a shake. "I applaud you for being a professor, however. I don't think I could do anything like that."
