Nikita had a date this evening with the man who worked at the ministry. She wasn't nervous, no, perhaps a little anxious she hadn't done this in a while, but besides that she wasn't sure of this whole dating thing anyway, after Ande she really had to consider her options and the truth was she didn't trust anybody else so how did she intend to have a healthy relationship?
She made her decision she wouldn't string him along, she'd break it to him gently and let him know that she wasn't interested in a relationship for a while. Of course she would have to tell him this in that "little black dress" just to make it harder on him.
She glanced at the clock again, she only had a few minutes left before he was to pick her up.

Vaughn glanced around his apartment. What was he going to wear? What was he going to say? He wasn't sure. When was the last time he actually went out on a date with a new woman? It had to be about four or five years since he formally asked anyone to dinner. Oh, this was going to be great. Vaughn wasn't doing this for a relationship, and if he had to, he'd let her know. He wasn't ready for a relationship, although it had been several years. It still hurt him about Laura, and he wasn't sure that he was ready to go through another relationship, only to have it end horrible. He wasn't sure if he could take it because he was shattered after Laura and he was still slowly picking up the pieces, and he still was not whole.
Settling on a pair of muggle dress pants, along with a button up shirt and jacket, Vaughn looked in the mirror. He ended up spiking his hair a little bit, and then let out a nervous sigh. He was going to have to pull himself together.
Vaughn left his apartment and headed towards Hogwarts to pick her up. As he arrived, he knocked lightly on her door and waited patiently, reminding himself to breathe.

Nikita was just fixing her earring as the door knocked and she too had to take a deep breath, this was going to be fine. She wasn't ready for a relationship, and though she didn't know he was convincing himself of the same things, she was determined at least to find some way of ending this quickly and painlessly. She opened the door with those thoughts on the forefront but wasn't prepared to see him again.
Hhad he been this attractive last time she saw him? Not that it should matter, she wasn't a shallow person but...Something twitched inside of her that caused her smile to relax and a lazy grin to appear, " Evening stranger." she said a bit huskier than she had intended.
Not that she didn't look good herself, she had tried to after all, gaining the upperhand and such. She wore a black halter dress with heels and her hair was winsomely in curls around her face, she was for all intents and purposes breathtaking.

Vaughn swallowed hard when Nikita opened her door. A slight bit of nervousness hit, but he reminded himself to breathe. Tonight he was going to let her know that he didn't really want a full on relationship, but maybe just friends. Friends were good. Friends could talk. Mentally, he continued to remind himself of that also.
"Evening," he replied evenly. "You look nice." A compliment wasn't bad. It was manners to say something nice about her clothing. Vaughn extended his hand to her, which held a single pink rose. Pink was a good color. It wasn't red, which meant that it wasn't nothing serious. "I thought that you might like this."

She smiled slightly and brought the rose up to smell it a blush faintly claimed her cheeks, "You could be bad for me...I can tell already." she whispered to herself knowing that as ridiculous as it was she was warmed by his sentimental offer, even if he didn't mean it, it had been a long time since a guy gave her flowers.
"Thank you." she said graciously on both the compliment and flower account, "You look...as if you've done this many times." she said with a raised eyebrow.

Vaughn didn't hear her whisper to herself. He was to busy trying to act calm and collected. Although, he did hear her as she spoke up. Vaughn gave her a smile that showed the dimple in his chin, but then he shook his head. "I haven't done anything like this in a while. You're the first woman I've asked to dinner in a few years actually. I'm a bit rusty with this." He cleared his throat. "And I saw the pink rose in the garden on my way here, and I figured that you might like it, and it would be appropriate."
He hoped that tonight he would not embarass himself.

She thought he just needed to relax and then he would probably be as suave as could be, but she found it slightly endearing that he was trying so hard. Where had all her reasons for not getting involved gone? Why was she smiling like an idiot.
She offered her his arm, " I'll believe you when you make your first mistake, other than that I'll continue to believe you an experienced date." and by experienced she meant that she believed he knew *exactly* what he was doing. Perhaps that was her suspicious nature, or perhaps she was just worried that she didn't know quite what she was doing.

Vaughn took her arm as she closed her door behind her. "Trust me. I'm not all that experienced. My last date was about four or five years ago, so I am a bit rusty." He was going to try and convince her that he wasn't lying. Did he dare tell her of Laura? She was still a touchy subject, even though it had been several years since. Vaughn should have moved on and forgotten about what happened, but he couldn't. It was still in his memory like it happened yesterday. Laura practically ruined his life, and maybe it was also his fault for letting it get this way.

"Alright then, I have to ask." she said looking at him seriously, " Why is it a guy like you hasn't had a date in the last five years?" she wondered, and wondered further, why would he start dating again and pick her as the date...he could probably do better but she knew on a personal level tahat he probably ocouldn't do much worse. She was a trainwreck and she knew it but for whatever reason she didn' tmind being near him.

"Well, it's a long story," Vaughn began. He didn't know if he wanted to tell it. Actually, he never told anyone of what happened. He swallowed. "To make a long story short, there was this girl, Laura who I fell in love with during school. We dated for about two or three years, and I was going to ask her to marry me. The day I was going to ask her, I found her cheating. After that, I just sort of cut myself off from the world and did nothing but work. I guess you can say that I'm still attempting to pick up the pieces."
After that, Vaughn's gaze looked down and he grew quiet. That was the first time he ever told anyone at all.

Nikita's brow rose, she didn't know how to respond to that. She had many guys whom she had dated end up cheating on her but she never really...cared. As strange as it was, she never got so attatched that she thought of marriage. What a novel concept, sure she'd like to be married and shoot out a few tykes of her own but that was a lifestyle she wasn't allowed to have, and yet here she was leading this poor man on.
"I'm sorry for your loss Vaughn."

"No, no, don't be sorry. There's nothing to be sorry about. It happened several years ago," said Vaughn. He remembered that that was the reason why he never told anyone of Laura. He didn't want anyone to be sorry. "Plus, you didn't have anything to do with it."
There, now she knew he was telling the truth. "What about you? Why doesn't a woman like you have some kind of guy?"

She shrugged, she was normally private with her life, but she couldn't answer that question because of the implications that would arrive with it, " I'm just lucky I guess." she answered knowing that she wasn't lucky at all.
"Okay, I won't be sorry." she promised him, "Where are we going tonight?"

Vaughn knew that there was something else there. After all, he did read her file again before he left. Although, he just pushed her file out of his mind. Tonight, he was going to act like he didn't know a thing about her, except for the fact that she worked at Hogwarts.
He gave her a quick half smile that showed his dimple in his chin again. "Well, I thought about it. I was planning on the Hot Panini. After all, this is a first dinner, and I don't want to put any kind of stress on you what so ever. The Hot Panini as a laid back atmosphere, from what I've heard, unless of course you have a strong desire to go to the Le Repas Cher. I could always change my mind if you wanted something different."

"Pressure? What is this strange thing you speak of?" she teased him, " Actually the Hot Panini sounds great." she hadn't eaten all day which was strange for her...perhaps she was more excited about this than she had previously thought. She hesitated in her smile before nodding to him.

Vaughn let out a quiet sigh. Now he wasn't going to have to worry about pressure. Maybe he could be more relaxed if the atmosphere was as laid back as he heard.
"Great," he said. He wasn't sure why he was so excited, but of course he was. As they arrived at the Hot Panini, Vaughn held the door open for her and walked in after her. "Would you like a table near the back, or somewhere in the middle? I'm not picky."

"Let's try the back." she said nodding that way, it would be less of a din to compete with when she wanted to talk to him, and she still needed to talk to him...about this whole thing not really going anywhere...but she didn't see why she had to bring that up right now, after all they could have a plesant date first.

Vaughn nodded and took her hand as he led her to the back, squeezing past a few tables. He found the perfect table. It wasn't too close to the kitchen and it wasn't too close to the other tables either. "Here we go," he said walking up to the table.
He released her hand and pulled her chair out for her, then motioned for her to sit down.

Nikita placed her hand in his and was surprised by how natural an action like that was as he led her to a table, "Yes this is perfect." she agreed with him before sitting down, " Thank you."
Now what did they doo, she wasn't really one for small talk, she wasn't really one for big talk either...she didn't talk alot.

Vaughn swallowed. Now for the hard part. He would have to keep her talking, and make her smile a few times, maybe even laugh. How was he going to do that? His previous thought of conversation flew out the window, so his mind was blank. Great. Just great.
He helped her get situated in her chair before he moved across the table to his own. The waiter appeared and handed them their menus and then asked what they would like to drink. Vaughn looked to Nikita. "Ladies first."
