Nikita. He had always thought, ever since he read her file that is, that her name was pretty cool. Now that he has met her face to face, her name seemed to suit her.
It had been a long time since he had sat across from another woman outside of his work. He thought he would be uncomfortable, however, he was quite the opposite. He didn't think to much of it though.
"That's an interesting name. And it's Vaughn Goldstein." Usually he never spoke his name. It wasn't ever really necessary. However he wasn't going to rush into anything. "So, Nikita, what to do you teach?"

Were they getting to know one another? He wouldn't know it, and of course she didn't know, but they were equally clueless on how this whole getting to know one another was supposed to go. She didn't date, period. She never had the time, and most guys who buzzed around her were looking for one thing and one thing only, and she surprisingly wasn't interested.
"Transfigruation." she told him, " What about you? What do you do for a living Mr. Goldstein?"

"Transfiguration. That's an interesting course, and it was one of my favorites during school. It was probably my best subject, other than Charms." By this time Vaughn had relaxed in his seat. There was no need to be on edge around this woman.
"I actually work for the Ministry. I do mostly paperwork actually." In one aspect, he was telling the truth, but he wasn't going to tell her what he actually did in the Ministry, other than doing paperwork. What was he supposed to say, 'Oh, I just happen to be an interrogator, and I've been tracking you down for the past several months just to ask you some questions?' Oh yes, that would be real smooth.

But he lost her at Ministry, there was a subtle shift in her eyes she tensed for a second. Paperwork...ha! They wouldn't let a man as handsome as he was sit at a desk all day, no her intuition was screaming to get out of there. Oh and she had kissed him! A ministry official. Now it could have been completely innocent, maybe this guy didn't have a clue who she was, wouldn't that be nice? But the chances were too high. She sipped the rest of her beer a bit quickly, then stood, "Well, Vaughn was it...?" she asked tossing her hair back and fixing her appearance from sitting, "I'd better be going."

Vaughn noticed the look on her face. It appeared she didn't believe him. Damn it. Why couldn't he had made another job up? "What," he asked. "I do paperwork. I have to pick up for other people's slack, and I'm trying to work my way up the ladder. Everyone has to start at the bottom of the pole, and that's where I'm at right now. The way the Ministry was left from the old minister is pure chaos. Nothing but paperwork."
He raised his eyebrow at her as she stood. "Yes. It's Vaughn." Vaughn stood up too. He couldn't lose her already. There was no telling when he'd get the chance to run into her. "Wait. Let me walk you back. You wouldn't believe at the night time activities going on," he said with pure innocence written all over his face.

It was too bad he was ministry, he was devilishly cute. Even that innocent face was tempting to a woman, but she knew better, " It's fine really. I'm a big girl." she said laying money on the table for her drinks. She brushed her hair back again and paused to look him over once more, yes this loss was something to sigh over but she just smiled then turned and was on her way out.

Vaughn wasn't going to take no for an answer. He worked too hard and too long for her to tell him that she was a big girl and walk away. No. He wasn't going to have that. Vaughn was too determined. He picked up her money and tossed his own onto the table to pay for both of theirs.
Vaughn caught up with her quickly. "I'll walk you back. It would just make me feel better if I did, and not feel horrible on not showing my manners. My parents taught me better than that. Oh, and I do believe that this is yours." He handed her back her money.

It was a cold night and her top was lacy she could see her breath in the air, she was mentally cursing herself for not bringing a jacket. She stiffened hearing his voice but didn't turn around until he said that something was hers she saw the money she had left on the table and then raised an eyebrow at him, " You paid for my drinks?" she asked, she didn't know why that was the first thing she said but it bewildered her, she didn't take the money back but shrugged her shoulders, "I'd really prefer to walk alone." she said but her mouth was tight she really was trying to be polite but she was three seconds from thinking he was a crazy stalker and hexing him.

This was not going to way Vaughn was hoping. "Yes, I paid for the drinks." Nikita was refusing him and Vaughn couldn't have that. It wasn't that he was going to try and get her to go off with him somewhere so he could take advantage of her, it was just that he needed to get to know her. Maybe he was trying to hard. He hadn't had an actual one-on-one conversation in a good while. He was rusty.
"Look, Nikita. I'm not a stalker," he said noticing the look on her face. "I swear. I'm just trying to do what is gentlemanly. So, since you don't want me to walk you back, at least take my jacket. You're freezing. Just take it."

In her experience gentlemen didn't hang out in shady bars, then again maybe he was the exception to the rule, yes of course Nikita reason out how you can have the beautiful man take you home. Which he was obviously wanting to do, but she didn't know why...other than the obvious and she wasn't going to get involved with someone from the ministry, not even for a fling.
So why she nodded and accepted his jacket she wasn't sure about, maybe it was the wind that suddenly chilled her which had her considering his offer.
She smiled, she knew about fifty spells that could kick his ass if she needed to get away, and then frowned but she had no clue how many spells he knew, or if he could counter hers. "To the school...and then seperate ways Mr. Goldstein?"

"That is a deal Ms. Long," Vaughn said politely and nodding his head. He motioned with one hand that they should begin walking and then he put his hands in his pockets. Now, maybe things were going to be better than he thought.
"So," he began. He hoped that his small talk would be okay. He didn't want to embarrass himself. "How long have you been teaching?"

She sighed, she should have realized small talk was a string attatched to gentlman like behavior. "Not long, this is my first year anyway." she said picking up her walk to make it a bit more brisk. She thought an end to whatever conversation they were about to have would've been preferable.

Vaughn made his strides longer to keep up with her. In a way it seemed like she was trying to get away from him, but what had he done? He hadn't said anything out of the way had he? He should really get out more in order to work on his people skills.
"Ah," he replied. "Well, good luck with the rest of the year." That conversation basically died. Vaughn was not great with small talk, unless it was about work. He swallowed and rubbed the back of his neck before putting his hand back in his pocket. What was he supposed to say next?

He didn't look to be having much luck with words either, which was amusing since with his pretty face Nikita would have thought he'd been excellent with girls. Charming and whatnot, but no, he was blowing it...rather badly...it almost was charming in it's own way.
She smiled at him as they neared the castle.

Vaughn sighed, but returned her smile. He noticed that they were nearer to the castle. "I'm sorry I haven't been much of a talker," he said apologizing. "It's been a while since I've tried small talk." Once again, he was being honest. Small talk hadn't really ever been in his forte, not since, well, that was still a touchy subject for him.
He cleared his throat a little and kept his hands in his pockets. Vaughn wanted to see her again so he could get to know her. Not in some romantic sense, but he needed to know more about her past.

Nikita held his jacket closer to her shoulders then was surprised at his statement, " It's alright I like the quiet." she shrugged then glanced back at the castle as it was now in straight view, she paused, "I believe this is where we go our seperate ways Mr. Goldstien." she said removing his jacket and handing it out to him.

"Yes," said Vaughn, but he then he shook his head. "No. You keep it. I have more like that in my closet back in my apartment." He gave her a smile. Now, it was time to ask her to dinner or something so he could talk to her more. Great. He hadn't asked anyone out to dinner in a while either.
Putting a hand on the back of his neck, he looked up to her. "I was wondering, if, you er, would, hm, g-go out to d-dinner with me sometime soon," he stumbled out. This was not awkward at all....

She almost laughed and that would have been fatal she realized but tilted her head with a smile, "You don't do this sort of thing often do you?" she asked, not sure why she liked that. Unless this was some long rote to seduction by pretending he had never seduced before well it was a good trick whatever it was and she couldn't believe that she was considering dinner with him, "Are you asking me on a date Mr. Goldstien?" she asked stepping closer to him.

Luckily she didn't just laugh in his face, although he half expected it. "No. I don't. I haven't done something like this in a while." Once again, Vaughn did not find any use to lie to her. He continued to tell himself that he was only asking her to dinner for his work. That was it. If it wasn't for that, Vaughn wouldn't have stepped in, in the first place. Well, maybe he would have just because he believed in good manners, but that was a different story.
He noticed that she took a step closer to him, but he didn't move. Vaughn looked at her. He swallowed and hoped he was doing things correctly. "Yes, I am Ms. Long. I promise no funny stuff. I'm not that type of guy, honestly."

She was close enough then to look up at him through her lashes "You're a bit rusty." she confessed after he told her that he hadn't done this in a while. Her smile widened, " But you're cute, and you don't kiss as if you havn't done this in a while." she raised an eyebrow still looking down at the space between them, "So if I stroke your ego long enough for you to ask me again without studdering..." she smiled finally glancing at him, " And take back that last part about no funny business, then I might just consider it."
She couldn't believe the words that came from her mouth, she was honestly considering dating from the ministry, was she crazy? Or did she just like to play with fire? Was it just because he walked her home like a gentleman, or because he kissed like...a non-gentleman? She was confused and Nikita hated being confused.
