Alice turned her head towards Frank and wondered what he was thinking, he looked so calm and handsome there beside her. She couldn't imagine him anywhere else that would make her happy. "Why didn't you put you're name in the Goblet, Frank? I know you would have been a shoe-in to get it if you had. I wonder who will get picked though for the houses, didn't you put yours in too Evelyn?" She tried to include Evelyn in on the new conversation although she stayed right where she was, happy feeling Frank near her.

"I'm not quite sure why I didn't," replied Frank. "I think that I would prefer to just worry about my N.E.W.Ts and plus I'm not so sure that I'd do alright in the tasks." Frank knew that he was going to become an Auror and the tasks of the Triwizarding Tournament probably wouldn't come close to what happens on missions, but he just couldn't bring himself to do it. On another note, Frank knew that Alice would be a better candidate than him anyway.
"Plus, I think it was also because of the mood I was in during the times you could put your name in." Frank glanced down to Evelyn awaiting her response.

Oh Samantha knew who they were, she had names drilled into her head until she could pronounce the entire history tree of the wizarding community. She was a walking Peerage book. She knew Justine was somewhat of an outcast in the house, but who better than an outcast to count upon for discontent and dirt when it was needed? Someone "invisible" or could slip in and out of places, learn different things since everyone was so busy "ignoring" her, that didn't mean that she didn't have ears, and if Sam ever needed to use those ears, she wouldn't hesitate.
She eyed Lyra and Rystain smiling to herself as they conversed, she thought she heard the word housewife, or at least somewhere along there was "rich husband" that was the last thing Samantha wanted.
She was no light fluff to be put on any man's arm as a trophy. She wouldn't spend her days planning parties. She'd take over her father's company, and her mother's magazine, and rule it all if she could, and she was Samantha Montgomery, she could do whatever she set her mind to doing. Even if running two business empires wasn't "power" she'd get whatever power she needed to be on top, a husband would squash all of that, her dreams would become insignificant to his, her wants crushed beneath his heel. Samantha could never let that happen.

Kris had heard all the buzz around tonight and combed out her hair till it was glossy, she made the effort of looking more polished than she normally did and thought 'Oh Sirius is bound to think I'm cute!' and made her way to the Great Hall. She peeked her head inside and saw there were more stupid Slytherins than Gryffindors and made her way toward the small knot of Gyffindors. Frank was talking to Alice, and she waved down the table and said "Hi!" hoping someone would notice how much time she spent on herself and how her hair was just clipped in sliver pins just behind her ears. She thought she looked cute, not like a little girl.

Alice returned a hello to the young girl as she said hi in their direction. She wasn't really friends with the young girl who had always seemed a bit mood-swing-ish to her, one of those girls with too much teenage angst which was annoying. But Alice tried not to hold it against the girl and smiled at her before turning her attention back on Frank and Evelyn. She wasn't trying to ignore the girl but she wasn't overly inviting of her either, besides she was usually sitting with her cousin Sirius and his little group of friends anyways so she didn't even think about offering a seat.
She watched Frank from the corner of her eyes admiring his features and wishing she was alone and could kiss him again. Not that she was brazen but she couldn't help herself where Frank was concerned and she knew she'd somehow managed a step forward in their friendship becoming more than friends and hoped it continued on that path.

Sirius and Remus walked down to the Great Hall together. Somehow James and Peter had gone ahead of them. Upon entering the Great Hall, Sirius immediately noticed that there was a kind of energy in the air, like something was about to happen. The tables were all curiously decorated, as well. Interesting....
As they approached the Gryffindor table, Sirius stumbled slightly. Kris was there, but so was Amy. They weren't sitting near each other, and there was plenty of room next to Kris. But then, there was also plenty of room next to Amy. Sirius gulped.
Of course, he knew he had to sit with Kris. But it shouldn't have felt like such an... obligation. After all, he noticed, she looked really pretty today. But then... so did Amy.
He was a mess.
He broke into one of his trademark smiled and headed over to sit between James and Kris. "Hey," he said, leaning in to kiss Kris on the cheek. "You look pretty tonight."

Caleb would have to miss the ceremony having been detained with another emergency, he couldn't make heads or tails of his stepfather's letter and his step sister visiting? He just didn't know what it all meant not to mention a large stack of paper's to grade. He sighed, he would learn who were to be the champions soon enough.

"Oh Sirius, you're so cute." she giggled and felt as high as the ceiling. "How was your classes today?" she asked not really thinking about how she had all the same classes more or less, she didn't take dueling, she had enough with she already had to deal with. As far as she concerned she didn't have to learn something like that.

Sam had divulged into another convorsation, leaving Seth to drum his fingers on the table, anxious and annoyed. He was still wondering about what he did wrong that would annoy Maxi, but he was still blank.
Seth looked around, hoping to see Bek who would shed some light on the situation, but to no avail. She wasn't here yet and Seth was left to his annoyed curiosity.

"That's not a happy face." she said nudging him when she was done with the introductions. She was anxious for the names to be called she wanted the anxiety to be over, " Still thinking about Maxi?" she asked intuitively.

Seth blushed. "I don't know what i did!" Seth said sadly. "Or been doing, come to think of it. I always tend to do or say something to make her angry at me lately." Seth said. "Maybe she's just sick of being friends with me?" Seth said, looking back at Maxi.

Sam rolled her eyes, boys could be so dense, "Seth look at Maxi." she said in a low voice, it was a purr but a quiet tone so others wouldn't be able to hear.
"Tell me, what do you like most about her?"

Maxi knew that Seth was looking at her, but she was still too fumed to go talk to him. Especially since he was sitting with Sam. Why was she feeling so jealous? It's not like she was dating Seth. They were best friends, that would be wired. She was just... Maxi took a look over at Seth, who was talking to Sam. ...Maxi was just looking out for Seth. Sam seemed like trouble to her, that was it.
After a few moments of silent, mental debates, Maxi slammed her head on the table. It wasn't anything about weather or not Sam was trouble. It was that she was georgous, and Maxi was not. That's why Seth liked her, and talked about her. Maxi was angry because she felt like she and Sam were in a race, Seth was standing at the finish line, and Sam was winning by a long shot.

Seth turned in his set, looking across the great hall and directly at Maxi, who at that moment had chosen to slam her head on the table. Seth couldn't help but laugh a bit, glad to know that Maxi was going through some of her own inner turmiol as well and that Seth was not alone.
"What do i like about her?" Seth repeated Sam. "Sam, you've met her, what's not to like?" he said, his face lighting up. "Maxi's my best friend. Has been since i sat with her on the Hogwarts Express in my first year. She's smart, and funny, and outgoing. She doesn't ever get embarrassed and shes the srtongest girl i know." Seth paused a moment. "Strongest person I know." He smiled. "She doesn't take anybody gall, and can see right through a lie." a hallow laugh. "And she can read me like a children's book...and yet, i still cant get inside her head." He scratched the back of his head and blushed again, lookingup at Sam.
"So...yea. That's what I like most about her."

Sam was moved, no one had ever spoken so highly of her, she was sure. She often said love was for idiots because only when you willing to sound that sappy and sentimental were you worthy of love and Sam was not willing, but she was happy to see others that way...even if she didn't believe in it.
"You've been her best friend for a good four years now." Sam explained with a smile, " And if a particularly handsome Hufflepuff were to transfer from a charming french academy was sitting next to her right now, chatting up a storm, how would you feel?"

Seth imagined a charming looking boy waltz into the Great hall and take a seat next to Maxi. Seth would have been angry that the boy was talking to Maxi, looking at Maxi, smiling at Maxi...
His Maxi.......
Seth sighed and put his head in his hands. "I..." he said, trying to get the words right. "I love her, don't I Sam?" he asked quietly. He looked up at her. "But how am i supposed to tell Maxi if she gets mad at me everytime I open my mouth!"

Sam smiled at what seemed like a hopeless situation for Seth, "Yes my friend I think you do." and she thought it was obvious Maxi felt the same. No wonder she had been getting such animosity, both from Alice and Maxi...but she hadn't intended any harm, she was simply trying to meet people. Perhaps she could set things to rights by bringing people together instead of splitting them up.
" I'm not sure Seth." she answered honestly, no one had ever really told her they loved her before...not really loved her. "Perhaps you should just...tell her straightforward. No pretense."

Rystain chuckled at her wink, she'd never flirted with him before but as she joked about a rich husband he wondered if she was more fitting than Alice would have been for a spouse. Not many knew about Alice it wasn't something he ever talked about but no matter what his mother seemed to think about her Black family tree bloodlines he was defnatly not interested in Alice. Lyra on the other hand was more his type, ambitous and content to just look pretty and do what she was supposed to do and likely not the type to marry for love. The perfect socialite wife he suspected but who could know for sure if she was just saying that for his benefit or if she had other motives for her future. He did know that the mystery deptartment paid well but he wasn't overly concerned with that, his family had enough to live on without worrying, one of the benefits of a long standing pureblood family. It wasn't money he sought but he did enjoy being in the shadows pulling strings while he grinned at the world watching it dance. He looked over at Samantha again who was still talking to that Justine girl and went back to his conversation with Lyra. The french girl would learn soon enough who the better families were, eventually. "I'm sure you're mother would be more pleased if you found yourself a rich man, if I remember correctly that's what she did best, though you're witty enough to be able to handle anything you put your sights on I'm sure." He had no doubt in her dueling skills either, she was very competant no matter how much she played it off. "Yes, well she certainly would not approve of my being a professional party girl, even if I was only planning them. She tends to take things the wrong way. I can barely talk to her without her twisting it all around. Oh, you should see my da when mum gets at him. It's the funniest thing. Much more entertaining than the Moving Pictures." She laughed, remembering her parents' last 'conversation'. It happened a lot in their house, behind closed doors. That sort of thing did tend to happen with arranged marriages. But as Rystain had pointed out, her mother had married for money, not love, and that justified any unpleasant feelings between the two.

Post by Rebecca "Bek" Caldwell on Sept 11, 2008 1:40:56 GMT -5
Bek walked into the Great Hall and looked around, not seeing many students there yet. The Gryffindor table had a couple of younger students, and also Alice Prewett and Frank Longbottom. The Slytherin table was crowded, and Bek saw Seth and Sam. It looked as though Seth was going through a little mental breakdown, but it also seemed that Sam had it under control, so Bek decided to question him later. A quick glance showed that Gage hadn't arrived at the Ravenclaw table yet, and then there was Maxi, all alone at the Hufflepuff table with her face on the table. Bek sighed. Somehow, she guessed that Seth's breakdown and Maxi's turmoil intertwined with each other.
Bek walked over to the side of the Gryffindor table that faced the Hufflepuffs. "Okay Maxi Borale, spill," Bek said, knowing Maxi too well. "What did little Nopho screw up now?"

I can barely talk to her without her twisting it all around. Oh, you should see my da when mum gets at him. It's the funniest thing. Much more entertaining than the Moving Pictures." It's funny cause my parents were arranged too and have similar issues. That reminds me though... just yesterday I was having a conversation with Peves and one of the portraits in the hall outside one of my classes, Lady Morsales or something or other.. I don't really remember her name but they were arguing about something, anyways I got involved and had to explain to him that he can't leave sharp toothed jumping candies on the floor of the hallway just to see how many students will walk into it, no matter how funny he think it would be to see them get bitten by the candy. He started rambling how no one ever lets him have fun and then the portrait was trying to tell him to go put them in the headmaster's office instead. I think she has it out for him or something. Peves had to start acting like a baby moaning and groaning till he decided to go have a party with the ghosts or soemthing." He told his story and rolled his eyes whenever he mentioned Peves the spirit of chaos that was well known in the castle and how portraits are sometimes just as bad. Rystain was grinning at Lyra with a lopsided smile.
