Albus Dumbledore walked calmly around the Great Hall, doing a final check on each table. The only hint of his excitement was the twinkle in his eyes as he inspected the decorations. Although the students believed it to be just another dinner, tonight was to be the opening ceremony of the first ever inter-house Triwizard Tournament.
Hmmm... that didn't quite sound right. There were four houses, and four champions... would it be inappropriate to rename it the Quad Wizard Tournament? Ah, well... no matter.
Assured at last that everything was in order, Albus walked to the staff table at the front of the room and sat down, casually picking up a copy of Gentlewizard's Quarterly and thumbing through it. To anyone who walked in, it would have appeared as if he was simply admiring a spread on the new fall line of wizard's caps.

Regina carefully walked into the Great Hall. She was nervous because she had put her name in the Goblet of Fire. In a way she hoped that she would be picked, but then in a way she wished she wouldn't be. In one reason, she didn't want to be the laughing stock of Ravenclaw, however part of her wanted to show everyone that she wasn't just a clumsy girl. She was smart and knew what she was doing.
Sighing, Regina took a seat at the Ravenclaw table giving a wave in Dumbledore's direction. Maybe luck was going to be on her side tonight, seeing as she didn't even trip once coming down from the Ravenclaw Tower.

Rori skipped from the Ravenclaw Tower. She was excited about seeing who was going to be picked for the Tournament coming up. Hopefully it would be a close race between the houses to keep things interesting. What kind of Tournament would it be if there were not a close race?
"Hello Regina," she said greeting the girl at the table and taking her own seat.

Severus drifted into the great hall like a shade. He felt so empty without Natalie as the friend he had, but he was still afraid of talking to her, and he wasn't old enough to start a destructive habit so he drifted to classes and functions like a wisp of dark fabric. This never held any interest to him, now it held as much significance as any other day, profound in its greyness. He felt his life was an important shade of gray, and he sat down at the Slytherin's table, where he always sat and waited for the world to finish it's quarter turn for the moment.

James reached the Great Hall with Peter in tow. He should have asked Lily if she wanted to walk down with him, but she seemed busy with something and he didn't want to bother her although he almost did. The hall looked funny nearly empty he noted. He also saw two Ravenclaws already sitting down.
Taking a seat, James drummed his thumbs on the table awaiting Sirius, Remus, and Lily.

Amy decided that if she left early from the common room, then she would miss Sirius. This was becoming ridiculous! Although, she tried to avoid him at all costs, after all she had caused enough trouble as it was. Maybe she shouldn't have transferred in. Maybe she should have just stayed where she was and none of the would have happened.
Taking a seat at the Gryffindor table, she gave a polite smile to James and Peter who happened to be already there. Thank goodness Sirius wasn't there yet.

Although the students believed it to be just another dinner, tonight was to be the opening ceremony of the first ever inter-house Triwizard Tournament. Alice walked into the great hall for dinner as usual, she knew she was earlier than normal but she sat down at the Gryffindor table and smiled at the younger students already there and saved a seat for Frank Longbottom hoping he'd sit next her like he used to do. After the other night, she hoped he'd stop avoiding her now and go back to their usual ritual of eatting dinner together. She knew that any day now there would be a champion selected but like most students she didn't know it would be tonight and she had put her name in the goblet of fire. But that was not what she was daydreaming about today... and she blushed realizing who she was thinking of hoping no one would notice.

Frank entered after a red-headed girl. Last night he hadn't been able to sleep. The scenes of yesterday played over and over in his head all night. He tried to figure out how to tell Alice that he cared for her more than a friend, but he could never think of the right words. Everything he thought of sounded stupid, and he was sure that she'd laugh. Why did expressing your feelings verbally have to be so complicated?!
He walked into the Great Hall alone and greeted the ones already at the Gryffindor table. His eyes immediately set on Alice. A smile was tugging at the corner of his mouth in spite of himself.
Frank took his usual seat next to Alice. "Hey," he greeted her with a sheepish grin.

He felt his life was an important shade of gray, and he sat down at the Slytherin's table, where he always sat and waited for the world to finish it's quarter turn for the moment. Great thought Regulus. Something else at this dumb school. Rolling his eyes, he left the common room and entered the Great Hall. The only Slytherin at the table was Severus. He seemed to be off in space or something. Oh, Regulus would fix that, and he would also start own his job that Narcissa wanted him to help her with, and that was to break Severus from hanging out with that Ravenclaw. A sly grin spread across his face. "Evening Severus," he said taking a seat across from him.

"Saved ya' a seat" she said with a wink patting the bench beside her. She grinned up at him. Frank looked uncertain and she thought it was endearing. She had missed having him sit with her at meals this year and she was going to enjoy it.

Narcissa entered the Great Hall with grace. She wanted to know who was going to be representing them, and frankly, they were going to a pretty good job of it. There wasn't going to be any way that Slytherin would recieve a bad name. Narcissa herself didn't put her name in the Goblet because her father talked her out of it.
Taking a seat on one side of Severus, she smiled at both boys at the table. "Reggie, Severus."

Frank's sheepish grin grew wider as Alice winked. "Thank you," he replied sitting and brushing his hand against hers on the table 'accidentally'. He looked around, then looked back at her. Gosh she was captivating! Her perfect, soft brown hair, and her soft and gentle lips.... Frank felt his face heat up a little from his thoughts and hoped that she didn't take any notice of that.
"How are you?"

Severus looked up and saw both Regulus and Cissa. despite her sister, she was nice and Regulus despite his brother wasn't completely stupid. "Hello, here to enjoy yet another activity brought to us by Dumbledore?" he asked dully. he had started to almost enjoy the feeling of having nothing. it was better than the feeling of loss, but these two saw fit to try and distract him. He would make conversation, what else would be left if he didn't?

Regulus gave a chuckle. "Oh, we're just so excited to be here," he said. "Nothing better than to be gathered by him and sit amongest everyone while we listen to him drone on about something. I don't believe you can get much more exciting than that."
He gave a smile in Narcissa's direction, before looking back to Severus. "Maybe this year we'll have an excellent form of entertainment with this tournment going on."

Natalie walked with her head down into the Great Hall for dinner. For the past couple of days, Severus had been avoiding her, and she couldn't understand why. What had she done wrong? Ever since she had pulled him out of the way in Defense class, he had refused to talk to her. Was it because she had touched his hand? Did he think she had seen any of his private thoughts? She had seen nothing at all, but he didn't seem to believe it when she told him.
She looked terribly sad and forlorn as she walked down the aisle to the Ravenclaw table. She looked almost like a ghost, a wandering spirit. As she chose a seat near Rori, she allowed her eyes to travel over to the Slytherin table in search of Severus.

"Doubt it, If Slytherin does well, it would come as no surprise and if we do poorly they will say we didn't deserve to win. It doesn't matter it's all the same." He was being more than negative but he couldn't help that too much. "Are you willing to place a knut on Dumbledore saying more than one odd word when he addresses us?" he slumped on his arms and sighed, "Never mind, that's a bet anyone would take, he's morally bound to say something odd."

Frank felt his face heat up a little from his thoughts and hoped that she didn't take any notice of that. "How are you?" "Hungry" she laughed. "After yesterday in the rain I went straight to bed and forgot to eat until now. But I'm glad you're here, I've missed having you around." She spoke in a light teasing voice but with serious undertones meant that she didn't want him avoiding her anymore after yesterday's .... her thoughts wandered to yesterday and she blushed.

Enid Simple, Divination professor, rarely wandered down from her tower to dine with the rest of the staff and students. She was much too busy communing with the spirits to deign to join those who didn't understand her gift. But tonight was a special occasion, and she felt it necessary to come down and express her opinion.
Gliding gracefully past the students, Enid went straight to the staff table and approached Professor Dumbledore, who was apparently admiring some new hats in a magazine spread.
"Professor, please, a moment of your time," she said. "This ceremony must not take place! The spirits have advise against it!"

Regulus raised his eyebrow at Severus. This was the Severus that Regulus wanted him to be with a few more exceptions. He didn't need to just slump around, but he wasn't going to comment on that yet. At least he wasn't looking so much like his eyes were glazed over when he looked at that Ravenclaw girl. Maybe his job wasn't going to be as hard as he initially thought.
"You need to start hanging around with us a little more Severus. Narcissa here was talking just yesterday about how much she misses you being around. Plus, we could have loads of fun."

"The same here. My stomach as been growling at me. In a way I think it's fussing at me," he said with a laugh. "And I've missed having you around too, but I'm back for awhile. You can't get rid of me that easily." Frank was teasing around with the last part, however he was also serious.
"I'm excited about hearing who is picked for Gryffindor. I couldn't bring myself to put my name in the Goblet. I don't really know why, but I just couldn't. However, for you, I have my fingers crossed!"
