"Oh Good evening." Sam purred in return, it wasn't her way of being seductive, not yet, she simply spoke in a rich, and sultry way. Her brows furrowed until her lips curled upwards into a smile, "Mr. Quandry."
She knew everyone at her table, she hadn't met them necessarily, but when her father ran one of the more acclaimed publishing companies, and her mother had run one of the more acclaimed Elite Magazines, she knew the names she needed to know. People went to her mother's magazine to announce weddings, to put their daughter's out for marriage, to say who was merging with whom, among a variety of other things.

"I promise to be in class tomorrow. Although, if I start to fall asleep, you must wake me up!" Alice loved it when he smiled and he did look tired and she wondered why he hadn't been able to sleep... probably up studying or worrying about his NEWTs she decided. She was glad to hear he'd be back in classes tomorrow though, she would be sure to make sure she saved him a seat since he sounded like he'd actually sit with her again. She still wasn't quite sure why he'd avoided her before but tried to shrug it off, since he certainly wasn't avoiding her now and she was quite happy about that fact. "if you fall asleep I'll make sure to find SOME way to wake you up!" She had said it in a mischievous giggle though her intent had indicated a minor prank of some type just to tease him, of course. "And if you miss anything in class you can always catch up on the lesson with me after class," she teased. She had forgotten how much she loved teasing him and her eyes sparkled with silent humor.

Oh, she was teasing him was she? A grin spread across his face. "I'm sure that you'll find some way to wake me up. Just not like you did over the summer. Not with that loud air horn noise that you set off. That scared me half to death and I couldn't hear for a day and a half! Plus, why would I want you to help me catch up?" He raised an eyebrow, before bringing her closer to him in like a hug to while he chuckled. "I'm just kidding. I think you're the one I trust the most to help me catch up, well, I don't think, I know, but you get the point."
He gave her a goofy grin and still didn't let go of her. He wasn't holding her so she would be uncomfortable though.

Lyra half listened to the conversation that Samantha was dominating. She was certainly popular with the boys, it seemed. Of all ages. She had twelve year old Severus looking more excited than Lyra had ever seen. And fourteen year old Seth, though completely oblivious to the fact that the Hufflepuff Maxi fancied him, certainly seemed aware of Samantha. And now Rystain, who was Lyra's age, had chosen to sit with her. And Samantha was only a fifth year. Since Sam had transfered from Beaxbatons, Lyra assumed this had something to do with their style in ettiquette. She had heard there were quite a few Veelas that attended Beaxbatons. Was Sam one of them?
Lyra smiled as she spoke. "So you've entered the competition, Sam? I wonder who you're up against from our House." She looked at the rest of the group at the table. "Did you apply Rystain?"

"Oh Good evening" Sam purred in return, it wasn't her way of being seductive, not yet, she simply spoke in a rich, and sultry way. Her brows furrowed until her lips curled upwards into a smile, "Mr. Quandry." Rystain raised an eyebrow just slightly to show his surprise that the girl already knew his name. He wasn't quite so arrogant to think she'd seeked him out or she would have said something to him sooner he was sure, but he did wonder how she'd known, not that his upper blood familly would have been that unknown to anyone in this part of the wizarding world but from a transfer student it was a surprise. She must be fairly insightful and have the right connections he thought to himself and that meant she was definatly someone who might be worth befriending. You could never have enough friends in high places or with the right connections. "Hello Samantha, a pleasure to see you.. I hear you put in your name to the Goblet of Fire and may even be the house favorite. So I wish you luck, it would be a pleasure to watch you compete." He spoke with a lazy grace and a roguish smile but his eyes were sincere. He actually did hope she'd be picked, she'd be better to watch than most especially if she looked as graceful as she seemed now. Her efforts to look her best were not lost on him. He looked towards Lyra as she spoke, someone he knew from his own year in Slytherin.. she had always been beautiful as well but as yet had not shown interest in him and he wasn't the type to give chase, normally. Such a loss too, she was quite stunning as always, even next to the younger Samantha. "No, I didn't enter. You know me.. it's not all about the glory.. after all I have more important plans for a future than some cup to put in a trophy case, besides I have enough of those things anyways. I'd rather spend my time getting accepted into the Ministry instead."

Sam searched for Frank at the Gryffandor table, he had helped her a lot and she was hoping that today it would pay off. If she was chosen she'd have something to celebrate with him about. It came as a surprise to her that she recognized him with his arm around Alice.
She blinked, once, then twice, then "Oh for the love of..."
Was *that* why Alice had detested her so much yesterday? Because of Frank? "You bloody fool." she said under her breath rolling her eyes inwardly, no one was paying attention to her at the moment, since her eyes were free to wander, at least she thought no one was paying attention to her. She wanted to laugh, it really was quite funny. Instead she sighed, she was happy for Frank, she only wished she knew this yesterday, but a smile spread on her face, and then
She gave him one of her hidden grins that she saved for special occasions, it was a genuine smile that made a person feel as if he or she were the sole reason she got up in the morning, "That's very kind of you."
She smiled at Lyra, "Yes I have." she answered smoothly as if she were confident, it was almost unfathomable for Sam not to have entered, while she never thought that she'd be this popular starting out, well a part of her thought it, the other part of her thought she'd have to work at it, and what better way than to win the house cup for the first time in history? She looked at Rystain for his answer.

He raised an eyebrow, before bringing her closer to him in like a hug to while he chuckled. "I'm just kidding. He wasn't holding her so she would be uncomfortable though. Alice knew she must be glowing with as warm and happy as she felt hearing him say that he trusted her the most. They'd been best friends for six years and she knew that she would trust him with her life if it ever came to it, it was good knowing he at least trusted her to help him study if nothing else. She saw his goofy grin and as he held her closer she reached between them and tickled his hip for teasing her back. She laughed again as he squirmed and as soon as she started to let go she stopped and leaned against him again so that his arms had no where else to go but around her again. It was one thing to tease him it was another if he removed his arm that she was growing quite attached to having around her already and she rested her arm lightly on his leg since it had no where else to go. Alice vaguely had the feeling someone was looking at her but she was too comfortable right were she was to turn around and find out.

Justine walked into the Great Hall and looked around. Although as far as she knew, it was supposed to be just a regular dinner, there seemed to be an unusual amount of buzz in the air. Was today the day they were supposed to find out the House Champions?
Justine had considered putting her name into the Goblet of Fire, but in the end, had decided against it. She was not the most popular girl in her house, and the last thing she needed was to be chosen as the champion for Slytherin and somehow end up making a fool of herself and humiliating her house. Sure, everyone who put their name in the cup had dreams of glory, but the reality was, most of those people, even those who were selected, would end up disappointed. Better to not have such lofty expectations.
As she approached the Slytherin table, she looked around at her house mates. As always, they made her feel extraordinarily plain. It was almost painful to sit near Narcissa, Lyra, and now the new girl, Sam. She felt like others were judging her and comparing her to them. She had always thought herself to be plain, but next to them, she looked positively homely. Even Severus seemed enthralled by the pretty new transfer student.
I should have been in Hufflepuff, she thought to herself. At least then I wouldn't stand out so much...

But Sam was new, and if it was a social fauxpas to invite someone else to sit near her she didn't know it yet, and without her mother breathing down her neck, she wasn't sure she cared, "There's room over here."
Inviting Justine to sit near her provided two things, the first, there wasn't supposed to be anyone she didn't know in her house at least--she was supposed to know *everyone* at Hogwarts already-- but she only knew Justine's name and nothing about her. Secondly it eased her conscience for when she didn't have anywhere to sit and having Seth invite her over.

Justine was more than a little surprised to be invited to sit next to Samantha. Obviously, since the girl was new, she didn't yet know that Justine was usually ignored by everyone, except for Severus and, of course, Jason.
Still, it wasn't like she could turn the offer down. She'd still look impossibly plain next to the Beauxbatons girl, but at least she wouldn't be sitting at the end of the table, alone with Jason, who would probably argue with her the whole time.
"OK," she said quietly, her head down. She walked over and pulled up the chair next to Sam. "Um, hi."

"Hi" Samantha said brightly, she positively exuded confidence, "Samantha Montgomery, we havn't met yet, but it's Justine isn't it?" she asked offering her hand to the girl as they made room for her at the table.
Justine wasn't all that plain she was beautiful in her own way, Samantha thought the girl was probably sweet, which was strange in Slytherin, honestly if she could trade...well no her motehr would have killed her if she hadn't been pretty or popular, although it seemed being prettier and more popular than her mother was even more unbearable to the witch. Sam pushed those thoughts behind her.

Lyra sneered as Samantha invited Justine to sit with them, and to make room, and not have to sit too close to the incredibly annoying Justine, she moved to the other side of the table by Rystain. "She's new, so I assume she doesn't know," Lyra muttered to Rystain so that only he could hear.

Rystain watched Sam invite the sixth year girl over to sit near her. He had never paid to much attention to the girl before and quite frankly her name escaped him until Samantha said it aloud. But that didn't mean he couldn't be his charming self around her too, though he was still busy looking between french beauty and the pretty Lyra with an inner appreciation he wasn't about to let them know about.
He nodded to Justine with lazy glance but then looked back at the others. He wondered vaguely what Maxi was thinking having all those girls around Seth, he'd noticed how she looked at the boy especially when other girls were nearby. That was the problem with caring too much for someone... it addled your wits and he would rather not find himself entangled like Seth obviously was. The poor sap, even if he did think well of Seth overall.
Rystain smiled as Lyra scooted nearer to him and he didn't blame her and nodded his agreement as she spoke.

Sam had yet to make a judgement call on Justine, besides, all people had their uses and that was something Sam knew very well. It was best to befriend, you never knew when you'd need a favor. Sam wouldn't alienate anyone until she had enough dirt on them to do as she pleased. No, that was bad thinking...that was the way she used to think...she was different now. She could be different now. Couldn't she?
She still held out her hesitant smile.

Lyra had to look away from Sam, who was being simply too kind to Justine. She turned to Rystain. "So tell me what you're planning to do after we graduate. Going to become the new Minister?" she teased, knowing his ambitions for glory. Minister of Magic was certainly a glorious position.

It was true, sometimes looking at Sam one wouldn't be able to discern why she was placed into Slytherin. She was kind and charming, making everyone love her, your typical ...or not so typical Mary Sunshine. What was that about?
Caleb loved her and was blind to her faults but he knew that there was more to Suzie Q then a smile, and he knew how deadly that smile could be.
There was another at Howarts who would know, or at least have a better idea about, but Sam didn't know he was there, that he could've been watching her at this very moment. She had relinquished such paranoia as soon as she got to Hogwarts determined on her "new start" She prayed that these people never had to see the "Slytherin" in her.

Going to become the new Minister?" she teased, knowing his ambitions for glory. Minister of Magic was certainly a glorious position. "I'm not so presumptious as all that, besides the Minister is not the true power in the minstry... it's often the ones you dont' see pulling the strings that have the true power after all not the puppet to be used. Although I have my interests at the Ministry, the department of mysteries is more to my taste... there is more hidden knowledge there and in knowing what others do not... " he shruged leaving it to her imagination. He wasn't about to use the cliche of knowledge is power.. but he knew that even though he wasn't a book worm by any stretch of the imagination, the secrets that the ministry kept under lock and proverbial key was where he really wanted to be. "And you? What do you have your eyes on Lyra..?"

The Department of Mysteries. That certainly would be a challenge. Lyra didn't even know how one got into that Department. Or even what they did. Pardon the pun, but it was all a complete mystery. She assumed the training to obtain such a position would be immense. Certainly not something she would strive for. "I'm going to find myself a rich husband, and do a whole lot of nothing." She laughed and smiled at him. "How much do those Ministry workers make?" She teased with a wink. Then, on a more serious note she added, "I'll probably plan parties or something simple like that. My da paid the party planner for my birthday so much money, it was utterly ridiculous. And I love parties, so it seems the logical thing to do. You know, if the rich husband part doesn't work out."

Frank moved in his seat as she poked his hip. "Hey," he exclaimed. "Not at the table!" In a way, Frank understood how that could have been taken the wrong way if no one understood what he was talking about. He started to laugh. "Don't poke me at the table. I don't poke you at the table." He looked down at her and winked.
What also surprised him was he didn't stiffen or anything when Alice rested her arm on his leg. Frank was still pretty relaxed with his arm around her. Now if they could just remain like this forever, that would be paradise.

Rystain chuckled at her wink, she'd never flirted with him before but as she joked about a rich husband he wondered if she was more fitting than Alice would have been for a spouse. Not many knew about Alice it wasn't something he ever talked about but no matter what his mother seemed to think about her Black family tree bloodlines he was defnatly not interested in Alice.
Lyra on the other hand was more his type, ambitous and content to just look pretty and do what she was supposed to do and likely not the type to marry for love. The perfect socialite wife he suspected but who could know for sure if she was just saying that for his benefit or if she had other motives for her future. He did know that the mystery deptartment paid well but he wasn't overly concerned with that, his family had enough to live on without worrying, one of the benefits of a long standing pureblood family. It wasn't money he sought but he did enjoy being in the shadows pulling strings while he grinned at the world watching it dance.
He looked over at Samantha again who was still talking to that Justine girl and went back to his conversation with Lyra. The french girl would learn soon enough who the better families were, eventually. "I'm sure you're mother would be more pleased if you found yourself a rich man, if I remember correctly that's what she did best, though you're witty enough to be able to handle anything you put your sights on I'm sure." He had no doubt in her dueling skills either, she was very competant no matter how much she played it off.
