It was an interesting perspective, " It's possible...it's possible that we're given a choice to know things and see things but we choose not to. I think that's how we live, if we knew what was going to happen we wait for it, without that knowledge we have the belief that we choose our destinies."

"Maybe it'd be better that way," She said. "People would spend more time loving and living knowing that it was going to end. As it is... we take things for granted. I think we wait for things to happen now, because we don't know when they will."

"It's our choice I suppose." he replied, "We can live each day as if it were our last, or we can live as if we never expect that day to come." He sighed he had asked these questions of himself, and while he never really got the answers it seemed that he too had just accepted that life was what it was.

"I don't really believe in any kind of divination, Professor," she said, and she found that she didn't know why she was saying these things to him.
Maybe because he was listening, a voice in her head reasoned.
"I took your class because I thought it would be interesting. I've always been at odds with the divination teacher. But I *know* something bad is going to happen."

He straightened when she said that she *knew* something bad was going to happen. He was a firm believer in gut feelings and didn't toss hers out the window, she seemed too serious to discredit. "What do you mean?"

"I don't know, really," she answered, and she was breaking down a little on the inside, praying that he didn't notice it. It was a gut feeling, one she had had before.
"I'm afraid someone is going to die," she said softly, her fingers tightening on the spine of the book she was holding.

Those were the worst of tidings and he was worried for her. "Someone...do you know who..?" he asked prodding gently. He wanted to be there for his student but he also wanted to prevent this catastrophe, well death was more than a catastrophy, was she saying that she knew someone who was going to die...perhaps suicide and she was trying to talk about it?

She paused for a long while. She knew he was going to try and get involved now, and she didn't want him to. But she was in it too deep to back out.
"Yes," she whispered, turning her attention away from him entirely and putting the book back on the shelf before she turned away, ready to flee.

"Hold on a minute, no." he said reaching for her arm to stop her and turn her around, "You're not getting off that easily. Talk to me, who is this person?" he was genuinely worried now and couldn't let her leave.

Adele refused to look at him. She pulled her arm away from him, hugging both of hers to her body.
"It doesn't matter," she said. "I'm sorry I brought it up, but you can't help." No one could. If Fate had its why, like her professor suggested, then no one could help her or her brother.

"Miss Graham." he said sternly, giving his best professor face, " Tell me what's going on." he demanded if there was a problem he could either trust her, or he was going to Dumbledore and that was it.

Her eyes flicked to his, and he seemed much more imposing than he ever had before.
"It's not me. It's not even a student, so you don't have to get involved," she said. Her voice broke a little, and she hated that it betrayed her while she tried to get him to leave her alone now.

He laughed mirthlessly, "Oh is that what you think?" he asked. He was involved. He was deeply involved, from the first second she asked him, confided in him, trusted in him. He wouldn't let her just walk away. Did she honestly think she could tell him that she thought someone was going to die and he'd just turn his back on it? She had another thing coming.

Adele took a deep breath. She needed to get out of this. She had already confided in him too much, and she was having a hard time backing out of it. She refused to let him get close to her, or to know her weaknesses at all.
"I have to get back to the school."

"I'll write you a pass, and I'll have you know Miss Graham, that any further attempts to avoid the subject at hand and we will have a problem in our midsts, understood? I don't give up or back down easily, I want to know who you think is going to die, and for Pete's sake why you would keep it a secret if you want to save whoever this person is."

She was trapped, and she felt it. The look in her eyes must have been like that of a cornered animal.
"You already said that fate does what it does... that there's no knowing it or stopping it or making sense of it."

"Fate does do what it will, but neither you nor I know what that fate is. So we must do everything we can to influence fate to our wills." he said there was a note of steel determination in his voice, she was trapped in a corner, and he wasn't letting her go, not while someone's life was on the line. He also needed to know what she meant, what the feeling was, if she was only scared or if there really was something to worry about.

She couldn't breathe right, and she swore she could hear screaming in her head. She didn't know if it was hers or her brother's.
She leaned back against the bookshelf, sliding slowly to the floor. "I think it might be me."

Not a student eh? He didn't notice the blood draining from his face or the horror that he felt intensly at her words, when he did realize it, he rationalized that of course he would be horrified if a student of his were to take their own life...or wait was that what she was saying or did she think something else was going to happen to her, something bad? Gently he took her arm and led her to a quiet part of the library where they could both sit down ,"Alright Adele, why you...What's happened? "

"Nothing happened," she said softly, her eyes on the floor. That was true. Nothing had happened yet. And thank Merlin for that... she was terrified that something was going to. But worse... what if it happened to her brother and not to her?
"Nothing ever happens. I just know."
