Charlotte had already turned the corner before she could hear Kat's little rejoinder but it didn't bother her. The girl was so inferior the rats came closer to Charlotte's heels than Hufflepuffs. No Kat's outburst hadn't done anything in fact Charlotte was a little bit smug that she had also been able to set down a hufflepuff on top of getting one on Sam.

Sam was a little surprised to see the girl come and sit by her and her stomach was still killing her she wanted to go to the nurse but she didn't want to appear weakened by Maxi.
She turned towards the girl, "excuse me? You were watching the duel?" she asked.

"Duel?" Kat asked with question in her tone. "Oh, no I didn't see the duel..." Of course, this was dueling class, of course she was refering to a duel. "No I didn't see a duel." Kat pointed to the doorway. "You didn't see her?"

"Who?" Sam asked shaking her head no. She had no clue what Kat was talking about, but the girl seemed to have something serious to say so Sam listened.
Though it hurt to sit still, hell it hurt to breathe.

Sam's brows went up, she had not seen Charlotte in the doorway, then again, Charlotte hadn't been standing directly in the doorway but rather to the side of it.
"You're certain?" she asked again.
That was monumentally stupid Charlie, getting caught. You're not that untouchable.

Kat nodded, but then froze. "Just don't let her know I told you..." She said, thinking of Tim and what Charlotte had threatened. "...I couldn't bear...." but she trailed off. "Are you sure you're alright? You're not in pain or anything?"

"Yes I'm fine." she noted the look in Kat's eyes as she asked not to be told on and Sam nodded understandingly, "Don't worry about Charlotte...I'm..I'm fine." she repeated, she was just royally pissed off.

Voltaire checked Borale's wand, It didn't have a dangerous hex like the one he suspected that was fired at Montgomery. He handed back her wand and went to the center of the semi-circle of desks.
"My Professional opinion is that Ms. Montgomery fought a magically superior duel. Five points to Slytherin for excellent use of combination and skill." he smiled at the still struggling Montgomery and gave her a hand of applause which the Slytherin students.
"As for the Winner, Ms. Borale. She fought a physically superior fight, we all saw how brute force behind a spell could win over finesse" he gestured to Montgomery "Also the taunts and personal jabs to enrage her opponent. This is not normally allowed in a first blow duel, it's dirty pool, but as this was an informal duel it is an edge that should be used when you can.
For creative use and as the winner, Ten points to Hufflepuff." he finished his little speech and went back to desk, and opened a small book. He consulted it for a moment and cast a counter to the spell Montgomery was suffering from. He wasn't an Ex-Death Eater for nothing after all.
He went back to his desk and picked up a small pile of simplified rules for the class. Dueling rules. "these are" he said as he began passing them to each student in turn, " the conduct rules for every duel we will have in this class. They aren't as ritualized as formal dueling, so no one should end up dueling because your challenge wasn't answered with bows or because some one failed to throw down a weapon. I will be setting up duels, therefore I will not allow anyone to pick their opponent. You can of course make requests and as mediator I will accept or decline them. Any other questions? He saw the late student and made a mental note of taking five points from hufflepuff, as he saw the color of her tie.

When the spell was taken off it's lingering effects removed Sam let out a large breath and started breathing a bit frantically for a few seconds as breathing didn't hurt anymore, she looked up catching the eye of the professor and her eyes shimmered gratitude the pain was gone now her stomach was simply in knots or rather adjusting to being normal once more.
Still she thought of the winner, if Charlotte hadn't stopped her, she would have won. At least that's what she told herself. She realized the two of them worked like a one two punch Maxi having taken down her shields and the Charlotte who had the clean shot to hex.
She took the dueling rules and glanced over them, they weren't much different from the ones in France.

Voltaire nodded to Montgomery, he had suspected correctly. He knew it wasn't Ms. Borale who cast the spell, he checked her wand, and to have done it non verbally, well it meant he was dealing with an older student. He was still waiting for anyone who might have a question before dealing with Montgomery, he was sure if he spoke to her, she might have a better idea of who fired such a spell at her.

Samantha nodded to Kat after the rules were passed out. It was a silent acknowledgment, silent thank you for her help. At least now she knew who was after her and that old wars hadn't died, but that was fine, Sam was strongest when tested by adversity.
She noted the key points and rules on her sheet as what was propper etiquette behind dueling and made marks of them.

Once he knew for sure that Sam and Maxi weren't about to kill each other, Seth scooted his seat back to hits spot in the semi-circle. He turned to both the girls in turn. "That was an excelent duel," he said.

Sam smiled slightly, "Thank you Seth." she hadn't won, but she wasn't miffed, she had the comfort of knowing she was being attacked by two people without her knowledge to prevent her ego from bruising too much, however the control freak inside of her was ashamed that she couldn't prevent the attack, the part of her that hated to admit she couldn't always control fate.
