Andi sighed. Although she usually believed in forgiveness and second chances, she wasn't entirely sure Rabastan was worthy of one. Maybe it was just because his presence still affected her, but she really just didn't want him around. But she'd be a hypocrite if she said no, wouldn't she?
A tiny part of her wondered if that was exactly what Rabastan was hoping she'd think.
"Fine," she said at last. "But let's take it slow. As in, don't stand so close to me?" she added pointedly. "In fact, please go sit down until class is formally dismissed."

He had to fight to keep from grinning, and he nodded, looking instead like he would do anything she asked of him.
This would be well worth his abstinence, he thought. Winning her back, breaking her down, and destroying her for that filthy mudblood so that even he wouldn't want her. It was the broken girls who made the best Death Eaters, he thought. They had so much pain to turn to vengence.
He did allow himself one coy look at her. "Then I will see you when class is formally dismissed."

Why was Rabastan here anyway? Evelyn was trying to piece things together as the rest of the class finished up with the plants. Maybe he was joining the class late, that must be why he was spending so much time talking with the professor. Evelyn suddenly felt the sharp stab of jealousy as she realized the professor was extremely pretty.

Andi could breathe much easier once Rabastan had gone back to his seat. Damn him... why did he still affect her? She loved Ted, more than she had ever thought possible. Her reaction to Rabastan was purely physical, like food poisoning. Yeah, that was it. He was poison, just like the beautiful hellebore and aconite plants she had displayed on the side of the greenhouse. Pretty to look at, but dangerous.
"OK, class, when you're finished taking note of the plants, please return to your seats," Andi called in a clear voice.

Seth took Gage and together the two went back to their seats as Professor Black had asked. Seth looked at his own notes, glad he could make such detailed discriptions of each poisonous plant that had been displayed. He looked over to Gage.
"You did good today Kid," Seth said, smiling at Gage.

Severus finished his list and sat back down. Maybe this class wasn't going to be so dull, He was glad he didn't have to fist fight with some plant, he'd rather leave that to someone with more skill at it. He could pluck herbs and such, but fight with snarling plants or pass out because of a wail of one or get killed by another wasn't his idea of learning.

Sirius had been in the middle of talking to Alice, when his attention was diverted to the front of the room, where Rabastan and Andi were talking in low voices. He was too far away to hear what was being said, but the look on Andromeda's face spoke volumes. She was uncomfortable with Rabastan's presence. Sirius was tempted to run up there and tell the Slytherin boy to leave Andi alone. But Lestrange soon left and went back to his seat in the back of the room.
As they headed back to their seats, Sirius leaned close to Alice. "What do you suppose that was all about? I don't much like the looks of it."

Alice whispered to Sirius in low tones, "I'm not sure but she sure doesn't look happy that he's here that's for sure and she seemed a bit upset the other day when she mentioned him. I still think he's got something up his sleeve.. he doesn't even like Herbology and I think he's gloating about something" She said finally looking towards the Lestrange. She didn't like him and was one of the few girls who had never been even remotely tempted by his oily charming smile. "He's nothing but trouble" she whispered finally.

Sirius, being quite a bit younger than Andromeda, didn't really know about the history between her and Rabastan. But he knew Bellatrix was engaged to Rabastan's older brother, Rodolphus, so he knew there had to be some connection. As he slipped into his seat, he looked over at Andi with concern. She was one of the strongest people he knew, so he wasn't too concerned about her, but he didn't like the fact that she looked uncomfortable. He'd have to go talk to her after class was over.
"I agree," he whispered back to Alice finally. "Maybe I should talk to James about pulling a prank against him."
But Sirius wasn't even sure he had the guts to pull a prank on the older boy. There was something about him, a menacing quality that the girls who always surrounded him somehow never seemed to notice. Sirius Black wasn't afraid of many people, but something told him Rabastan Lestrange was someone he didn't want to cross.

Andi waited until all of the students were settled back in their seats, then she walked back to the center of the room and looked out at all of them. "OK, so now you've all had a look at some of the mundane plants we'll be working with the next few weeks. I hope you took note of what each one looks like, because you'll be tested on that later. But for next week, I would like each of you to choose one of these 15 plants and do a short report on it. Just one scroll, about a foot long will be fine. Make sure you discuss a brief history of the plant, as well as its uses, and any special treatments you need. Are there any questions?"

Gilderoy raised his hand. "Oh, Professor Black, I have a question," he called out. "If we choose a plant that is our favorite color, can we talk about that as well? The lovely wolfsbane, with its pretty purple flowers... it inspires me! Purple is my favorite color, after all..."

Rabastan rolled his eyes at the Hufflepuff. He was hoping no one had any questions... he could get to Andi sooner. And if his suspicions were correct, Tonks should be loitering somewhere around the school by now. And then Gilderoy had to speak up.

Andi had to stifle a laugh at the Hufflepuff's question. He seemed to have a charmingly simple view of life, and what was important. "Er, well... yes, if that's what interests you about the plant. But please make sure you research the important points... the history and the uses of the plant. I'll be looking for that information in your papers. Now.... any futher questions?" She paused and looked around the room for a moment. Seeing no other hands in the air, she nodded. "OK, then, class is dismissed. Thanks, and I'll see you next time."

Rabastan wanted to jump at the chance, but he knew not to seem overly enthused by this. He stayed in his seat as the other students packed up their things and began to leave. He would wait until she walked by him, and then he would join her.
He just prayed that something was going on somewhere in the castle or on the grounds to make this worth it.

Sirius packed up his things and headed up to the front of the room where Andi was standing. "You did great!" he told her. "That was actually one of the most interesting Herbology classes I've had. But do we have to write a paper?" he added with an exaggerated scowl. "Just kidding... you were good."

Rabastan, from the back of the room, nodded. "He's right, Andromeda," he said, loudly enough for her to hear. "You did wonderfully. Am I allowed to approach you yet?"
He asked this in a way that said he was trying to be good, and trying to prove to her that he could do what he was told.

Andi tensed at the sound of his voice. Why wouldn't he just go away? Hadn't she made things clear enough to him that she had moved on? "Thanks," she said, more to Sirius than to him. "I was terrified, but it got easier as I went. And yes, you have to do the paper, Sirius," she teased. Looking back at Rabastan almost reluctantly, she replied, "And what else could we possibly have to talk about, Rabastan?"

Sirius leaned close to her. "Is he bothering you, Andi? I could hex him for you, if you want... I don't trust that guy one bit." He glanced back at Rabastan, his eyes narrowed suspiciously. He had a bad feeling the guy was up to something.

He shrugged. "Anything. You've done quite well at keeping me out of your life for a couple of years now."
He sighed and stood up, thankful that Sirius was now busy. "I already told you... I want to atone for what I did, and I just want us to be friends."

Andi smiled and gave her younger cousin a pat on the head. "Thanks, I'm fine," she whispered. "And I don't trust him, either. I know him too well." More loudly, she said, "Now, you'd better hurry up and get back to the castle, OK? I'll talk to you later, Sirius." She felt bad dismissing him like that, but she wasn't going to feel comfortable until she'd finished dealing with Rabastan.
