Alice turned her book to page 69 and sighed at the thought of boils... ewww... she hoped she never got THOSE in a duel. She looked up at the professor as he passed by. She enjoyed potions class and was looking forward to anything that might happen, intended or otherwise. After all the best learned lessons are from the mistakes you make if you accept that it is a learning experience and remember it for next time. So she'd turned the potion the wrong direction last time.. no big deal.. she'd remember it from then on though.

Maxi looked at the text book. "Ew," she said quietly. "That's disgusting," but she pushed the thought of disgusting boils behind her and began to get out materials.

Gage eagerly got out his equiptment, hoping to please the professor, and opened his book. He didn't wince at the picture like he saw Maxi do, but slowly read the list of ingrediants, making sure he had everything right before starting.

Severus quickly jumped into action and went to grab what he needed. He returned to his desk and began to prepare his ingredients and chop weigh and measure. Roots were diced in small and almost perfect cubes, small and shriveled looking things were smashed in a small sliver mortar and pestal, which was then measured out into a small silver cup. He picked up his quill and crossed out a small section and made a small cramped note on the side of his margin. then he lit his cauldron and put in the first few ingredients, stirring them often, then added the sliver cup of juice, which made his potion turn the right shade of green yellow. there were a few more steps but he was at a good point to start removing the stems from the dried st. john's wort.

Samantha didn't have any of her equipment with her and was left to watching the others perform. Potions to her were memorization, but her previous tutor hadn't felt that way, no he was certain that potions stemmed from the base part of ourselves, that ingredients put together to make a "fine stew" he sometimes called it he was quite the character. Her eyes scanning the room she almost sensed her tutor's other half in Severus who seemed avid about his potion. She glanced around her then stepped his way, "Would it bother you, if I watched?"

Severus felt a chill race up his spine, He wasn't used or comfortable with someone behind him. He looked up and saw whom it was and nodded jerkily. he picked the leaves off the stem and threw out the stem, here the book said to wait to add them, stirring clockwise then they would be added and change the color from yellow green to a shade of clear red. Severus chopped his up, the smaller bits would merge quicker and speed the process along by a bit, with any luck he'd finish first in cooling and bottling up his potion.

When he was startled she quickly apologized but smiled when he said she could watch, she didn't say anything to break his concentration, but he was magnificent with potions.

Ruecain heard the professor and said goodbye to Gage and Hallie. As soon as he was at his seat Ruecain pulled out his book turn to page 69 and saw the man with the disgusting boils on his face. "Amazing" Ruecain said astounded by the large boils. He grab he ingredients that he needed and got to work on his potion.

"You're really very talented." she informed him after he was pretty much through with the potion, she shivered thinking of who he could send that to, it would surely do the trick, and so much from someone so young, she would have to keep on her toes around Severus.

Lyra sat silently at the back of the class, reading a book she had picked up at the bookshop just for fun. She was ignoring everyone else, completely enthralled the fictional story printed on the pages in her hands. It wasn't until she heard Professor Slughorn finally speak that she folded over the corner of the page she was on and shut her book. She placed the book in her bag and pulled out her text, opening it to the specified page. She read the page once and then went over to the supplies cabinet and gathered the things she would need to make a boil cure potion.

Alice pulled out her supplies and her iron couldron from the floor, walked up and grabbed the few things she didnt' already have with her from the class stores and went back to her table to start working on the recipe for the potion shown on the page. It was just like cooking at home really if you got right down to it. She wondered idly if people that were proficcient in potions were usually good cooks if they actually tried cooking instead of having house elves do it. She looked at Severus who was already getting started.. he had a knack for potions she knew even at such a young age he was already ahead of his grade level in it. Too bad he hadn't been a Gryffindor, she thought, he looked like he needed a friend most of the time.

Rystain picked up his silver cauldron and set it on the table in front of him, he'd already turned to the correct page and wasn't phased by the photos of boils. He flipped ahead a few pages to see what else was there before turning back and bending over to get some supplies from his bag he always brought with him. Luckily this time he already had everything he needed and pulled out the various flasks of ingredients and looked around to see what everyone else was doing before lowering his head back to the book to work on his own. He was okay with potions meaning he got good grades but it wasn't his strongest subject. It didn't involve a wand so it wasn't quite as natural for him and he actually had to study this subject, or more notably keep his book handy to refer back to.

Sam wished she had bought her supplies and could've done the assignment as well, it didn't look good her just looking over Severus' shoulder, but she had explained to the professor, and at least Severus was competent in the area. He wouldn't have been a bad choice for a study buddy, *when* Sam had her supplies.

Kingsley had sat in the back of the class in potions, something about Professor Slughorn gave him the creeps. As the professor gave them the assignment he quickly flipped to page 69 of his book and placed his iron cauldron on the desk. Gathering the various jars of ingredients he would need for the potion, he quickly began lying them out and preparing them to be put into the potion.

Severus finished his Potion after continuing the clockwise stirring. He added his chopped leaves and then stirred counter clockwise, causing the swirling potion to become turbulent then clear. He cut the fire under it and began letting his finished potion cool. It was mental harmony to focus on something as balanced as potion making. It just felt right to him.

Sam followed Severus' movements and the material in the book and had to stop just short of clapping when he did everything perfect. Oh how her potions tutor would love this student, he certainly didn't love Sam.
"That was Marvelous Severus."

Professor Slughorn walked around the classroom, checking each student's progress on their potions. As he did so, he slipped them each a note showing their grades on the previous week's potion. Some of them also got something extra--a small piece of parchment with a written invitation.
"Excellent job, Severus," he said approvingly as he passed the second year Slytherin and admired his perfect potion.
After he had checked over all of the students and was sure that they had all finished their work, he collected each potion and stored them on a table in the corner.
"Very well, class, you are dismissed. You will receive your grades next class again, after I've had a chance to test these. Make sure to read chapter 6, we'll be working on Vanishing Solutions next week!"
