A visit from Dad

[Kris Lupin]

"Then why didn't you atleast send me with someone that already had a family? Maybe they would have sent my letters." Kris asked blinking back tears, "I was alone with her, I didn't even know she was still in contact with you."

[Remus Lupin]

"We didn't know anyone else," he said with a sigh. "I was working at the ministry at the time, and I wasn't very popular. It was such short notice that the only person we could think of who could take care of you was your mother's friend. We didn't hear from her very often, just a few times a year. Every so often, I would write to her and ask if you wanted to come home, and she would say you were fine. So I left it alone."

[Kris Lupin]

"I always wanted to go home, everyday I wanted to go home. I missed Remus and the life I had, and now it's like Remus is my older brother and not younger.. a-and we'll never be close like we use to..." Kris didn't understand why they didn't at least tell Remus about her so he might have remembered her.

[Remus Lupin]

"I'm sorry... I wish I had known. It never occurred to me that she would lie to me. She was so close to your mother... She sent a huge bouquet of flowers for her funeral..." He sighed. "I wish I could take it all back, and start over again... but I can't. All we can do is work with the life we have now."

[Kris Lupin]

"I-if that's all you have to say then go, I feel tired, I want to go inside and lay down." Kris felt tired anymore she didn't know why but she did, she didn't know if it was because her body was still getting use to being a werewolf or what.

[Remus Lupin]

He sighed heavily. "If you're sure," he said. "I just wish I could make you understand what we were going through. Are you sure you don't want to read the letters your mother wrote to you?"

[Kris Lupin]

"Do you have them with you?" Kris asked looking at him, she wished they would have sent them.

[Remus Lupin]

"Yes, I do," he said, reaching into his coat pocket. He produced a thick pile of wrinkled, folded parchments tied together with a string. "You can have them if you want them." He held them out to her.

[Kris Lupin]

Kris took the letters and without warning she hugged her father as tears fell from her eyes. He was the only father she had and sha didn't want to be mad at him. She just wished she could remember her mother and see her again. "Why can't I remember her?"

[Remus Lupin]

Rupert was surprised as she hugged him, but he smiled tearfully and hugged her back. "I don't know why you don't remember her," he said softly. "You were young, but if you remember me and Remus, you should remember her. Maybe you should ask Norah about that. Maybe she knows something." He felt a strange, eerie feeling as he mentioned Norah's name. Something wasn't right there...

[Kris Lupin]

"I-I think you need to talk to Remus... h-he thinks you made him forget me.... I did too after Greyback attacked me... I can't remember what happened after I transformed I just remember what he said and the pain..." As Kris spoke she absentmindedly rubbed her shoulder where she had been bit.

[Remus Lupin]

"I want to talk to Remus," he said. "But he won't see me. And I don't want him to know just how badly the attack affected him. he has absolutely no memory of those days, and I think it's best that he ever knows about it. He already thinks himself a burden... this would make him feel worse. I can tell him some of it... but I doubt he'll ever really understand why I kept you away." He sighed heavily. "I could try to talk to him, though, if you can convince him to listen."

[Kris Lupin]

"I don't think I can do that... he probably wont listen to me." Kris looked at the ground, she bit her lower lip. "He thinks you might have used a spell to make him forget me, or something."

[Remus Lupin]

Rupert nodded. "I was afraid he might have thought that. But I promise that I didn't use a spell against him. I was tempted to do it a couple of times, but not to make him forget you. I just wanted him to forget the wildness and the fear and confusion he had.... but a healer assured me that he wouldn't remember it anyway.... and that using a spell on him would most likely make him worse." He sighed and ran a hand through his hair in frustration. "I just wish he would talk to me..."

[Kris Lupin]

"He just needs time... I just hope that he'll talk to you about before whatever my bad feeling means happens." Kris said as she put a hand on her head, she always felt tired.

[Remus Lupin]

Rupert looked at her in surprise. He had been trying to think of what to say to Remus to get him to speak to him at least, but Kris's comment made him stop. "Bad feeling? What are you talking about, Kris?"

[Kris Lupin]

"I keep having this bad feeling that something really bad is going to happen to the family." Kris said as she bit her lower lip, she was worried that her bad feeling would happen soon.

[Remus Lupin]

He put his hands on her shoulders. "I'm sure everything will be OK," he said reassuringly. "Pkease try not to worry. This family has already been through enough bad things, so how could things get any worse?" He smiled at her. "Whether you believe it or not, Kris, I am glad to have you back here. You've grown up to be so pretty. I hate that I missed so much of your life."

[Kris Lupin]

Kris smiled slightly and hugged her dad, "I need to go lay down, even though I got up not long ago I feel tired." She held the letters tightly in one hand and with her other she rubbed one eye.

[Remus Lupin]

Rupert pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Yes, you should rest," he said. "You've been through a lot, and being a werewolf often makes a person tired. Remus has the same problem. You just go lie down, and I promise I'll be in touch soon, OK?"
