I'm not sure how comfortable you'd be with switching to a completely new kind of shoutbox and all but I've heard some good things about Chat4all (http://www.chat4all.org/index.html). Its supposedly very similar to Cbox and has more features and everything. I've never actually tried it or anything, but I've heard that's its also much more reliable.
