Mystie rolled her eyes at Rori. She couldn't help taking an almost instant disliking to the girl. Mystie's potion was emitting a black smoke, and she wasn't complaining. Rori was the girl that had fainted in DADA because of the boggart ... what a whimp.
Mystie was just glad that Rori wasn't in Slytherin. She raised her eyebrows a final time and looked back to her potion that was now bubbling, and the black smoke was almost choking her. "Punking potion..." She spat, throwing the remains of the black and dissolved spoon into the cauldron, and the potion smoked even more.

Gia coughed. Someone's potion was giving off a very strong smell. She looked around and noticed that one of the Slytherin girls had a potion that was emitting a black smoke. Gia covered her mouth and continued to work on her potion. All she had left was to add the Eucalyptus oil. She tried to add just 5 drops, as the instructions said, but the smoke began to choke her and she coughed again, causing her arm to jerk. She ended up dumping nearly the entire bottle into her cauldron. Immediately her potion turned a sickly green color. "Ooops..." she mumbled.

Mystie frowned, she wished that this potion would stop doing that. It absolutely reaked, and she wasn't the only one that was coughing. She covered her mouth and hurried over to the corner of the classroom, where someone had left an unusually large book, with a hardback cover. It was just big enough to cover over the top of the cauldron.
Rushing back to her desk, she covered over the cauldron, and stepped back. As the remainder of her smoke cleared, she smiled. "Yes!" She hissed, beaming. Only a few small whisps of smoke were now coming out from beneath the book.

Slughorn wandered around the room, checking each student's progress. He checked Landon's first. "You added too much powdered bat wing," he said. "But you're close." He then checked Justine's, which was emitting a noxious gas. "And you added too much of just about everything," he said, shaking his head. He quickly vanished the potion away before moving on to the next student. Rori had raised her hand, so he walked over to her. "Miss Logan, you came close... but the smoke should be clear. I'm not quite sure why it's doing that. Did you add too many drops of Eucalyptus oil?"

Landon grinned at being told he was close. He knew he wasn't going to get it completely right anyways. He just shrugged and laid back against the back of his chair, waiting for Slughorn to test each potion.

Jenny made the worst potion ever. It smelled and look like puke.

Slughorn continued to walk around the room, checking each student's potion. "Miss St. Clare, yours is very good, but it's slightly off. It won't be quite as effective as it should be. Miss Walker, your potion is all wrong. Miss Campbell, your potion is dreadful... and Miss Torrance, so is yours... you added far too much of everything." He made a face and vanished Justine's potion away. "Now, Mr. Travis... you were close, you just added too much of the powdered bat wing. Miss Holmes, you clearly didn't even read the directions before you made your potion! Miss Glass, I have no idea what that is, but it's not Veritaserum." He vanished it away, and almost immediately the putrid smell in the room cleared. Finally he came to Severus and broke into a smile. "Finally! Of course, I can always count on Mr. Snape to make a perfect potion! Ten points to Slytherin! Now, of course, it will require a full moon cycle to mature, and we don't have that much time, but most of these potions aren't going to mature properly anyway. Miss St Clare's and Mr. Snape's are the only ones that would come close. Now, for your homework, I want you to study Chapter 12 on the maturing of potions and provide a summary of the chapter. That is all. Class is dismissed. Oh... and if anyone has any idea who hexed Mr. Travis, please come to my in my office..."
