Remus shook his head. "I don't know. I don't know how to believe a word he says anymore," he said. "And I don't want to see him tomorrow when he comes. You can see him, and you should. But I can't face him, Kris. I'm the one he lied to. Maybe he'll tell you the truth. But I don't know how to believe it."

"I understand." Kris said as she hugged herself, she hadn't ment to ruin their relationship. She just wanted to be in the family again, she wished Sirius would write her, she missed him. "I wonder why Sirius has wrote."

Remus shook his head. "I wish I knew. I haven't heard a thing from him... I would think it was because he doesn't know where we are, but letters delivered by owl almost always find their way to the right people." He sighed. "I hope he isn't in trouble."

Remus took a sip of water, then looked at Kris seriously. "So... when you see Dad tomorrow, what questions are you going to ask him? I think maybe you should be ready with what you want to say, so he doesn't try to distract you by telling things you didn't ask."

Remus nodded seriously. "Those are good questions," he said. "While you're at it, can you ask him why he never told me you existed, and he just let me forget about you? Because I really would like to know that. Especially if he altered my memory." He sighed. "I know... I should ask him myself. But I still don't want to face him. And I don't know if I can trust him to tell the truth, anyway. I just want to see what he says."

Remus ate a little more of his soup, finishing off his bowl. He wondered for a minute whether it would be appropriate to take more, when the rest of the pack hadn't eaten yet. Then he looked up at Kris and saw that she was lost in thought. "What are you thinking about?" he asked. "Still Dad?"

Remus shrugged. "I was just planning on staying here," he said. "Most of the pack stays here all the time, and Zander said we were welcome whenever we wanted to stay. I'm not going back with Dad, and if Dad tries to get you to go back to the woman he raised you... well, he doesn't have a right to do that. He lost that right when he threw you out of the family." He looked around the room. "I don't know about you, but I like it here. I feel like I belong here. More than I ever did at home, even."

Remus could see that she was overwhelmed with emotions and couldn't speak. So he got up from his chair and went over to her, then put his arms around her. "Dad may have erased you from the family, but I'm bringing you back in. I'm still mad at him, but you're my family now."

Kris could feel the tears she had been fighting escape and run down her cheeks. "I-I just wi-wish I could h-have stayed wi-with the family." She said as her body and voice shook from her crying, she was both happy he had told her he loved her and sad she didn't get to stay with her real family.
