Coda had barely ate any of her eggs as she was trying to figure out what she should do. "I'm not really hungry." She said quietly standing up. She didn't really understand what he would want to talk to her for.

Zander nodded. "OK," he said, "come with me." He led her into one of the empty rooms and sat down in one of two chairs that faced each other. "Coda, I know you didn't know about this, but Athena is my sister. I ran into her inthe woods on the way back here. She was positively frantic, wondering where you were."

Kris fell silent, thinking how she would have felt if their father had kept her instead of him. "I understand now why you hate him, I would have felt the same if he kept me and sent you away." "It would have made more sense for him to keep you and get rid of me," Remus said sadly. "I ruined the family. You were sent away, Dad lost his job, Mum got sick from stress and worry, we ran out of money, we kept having to move whenever anyone found out about me, we were barely getting by, and we were outcasts! He should have just dumped me by the side of the road somewhere and let Greyback have me. He should have kept you; you were the normal one. I was the one who was a problem, not you. Everyone would have been better without me." |

Kris ran to Remus and hugged him. "I wouldn't have." She whispered as she fought back tears. She would have felt horrible if their father got rid of him.

Zander gave her a smile. "Athena is tough," he said. "And she doesn't give up easily. She got that by being the older sister to two boys. My brother, Ian, and I used to harass her terribly when we were kids, and she learned how to beat us at our own game." His eyes grew misty, as they always did, at the mention of Ian. "There's no way she'll let anyone stop her from what she feels she needs to do. And if she wants to find you, she will. And she'll protect you as fiercely as a mother bear protecting her cubs. I'd say this Goss had better watch out for her." He sat back and considered the girl. "Why don't you explain to me about Goss?"

"Well, he's the brother to the pack leader of the wolves I use to live with... they had took me in after I had got bit.. he didn't like a human being in the pack so he and most of the others left with him. Last night wasn't the first time he attacked me, it was the first time I was without Tis or Sauris, he's the pack leader." Coda said keeping her eyes on the floor.

Zander nodded slowly. "I see," he said. "So they attacked you last night, and Karl and Chloe and Skye were able to rescue you? And now you're afraid Goss and the rest will keep trying to find you?"

"I know he will, he vowed to kill me because he thinks I made Sauris and the ones that stayed soft and that I ruined the pack, he thinks that wolves are better then humans and werewolves." Coda said looking at him as she absentmindedly scratched the old scars on her arm.

Zander frowned. "How do you know all that?" he asked. "They can't speak... is there a language they use to communicate?" He was feeling a bit confused. He'd never heard of anything like this. He wondered if Pearl could help.

"Well, once you live with something for a few years then you begin to understand them, I remember nothing of my human family so it was like being born again but with wolves as family. They do speak but in their own language." Coda explained as she sat on the floor. "It's like birds, what we hear is beautiful singing but what the birds hear is speach."

Zander thought for a minute. "Do you think that the wolves would actually go into town and try to come after you?" he asked. "I've never really seen that happen before. But there are ways to protect you."

"I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did. I do know that he will hurt anyone I call family or that I'm close to just to get me to go to him so he can... how do you say... finish the job." Coda said looking at the scars on her arms. "If it hadn't been for Tis always being with me I'd probably be dead by now."

Zander thought for a minute. "Coda, if Goss weren't an issue, where would you want to be? Would you rather be with Alastor and Athena? Or with Tis and the other wolf pack? Of course, you could also stay with us, if you wanted. Just forget about Goss for a minute and think about where you'd rather be?"

Coda stayed silent thinking, where would she go? Well if it wasn't for Goss, she'd still be with Alastor and Athena, but would she have left Tis and the others if he wasn't around? "I don't know." She whispered. She loved being with both, how could she choose?

"Well, I can't choose for you," Zander said. "You''ll have to decide on your own. If you decide to stay with Alastor and Athena, we'll all find a way to keep you and everyone else protected. And you'll need a plan for what to do during the full moon. We can help with that. It will be harder for you to be protected if you stay in the woods; hopefully Tis can protect you. But you have to decide what is right for you." He smiled at her. "Athena is coming over here later on. She was going to give me one of the sweaters she got for you, so we can pick up your scent and go looking for you. You don't need to have an answer for her then, but you should be ready to talk to her."

Zander nodded. "That's understandable," he said. "Well, Athena told me that Wesley and Natalie will be going off to spend most of their time at the school. And they'll probably getting their own place soon, too. So that will just really leave Alastor and Athena, as well as Colin and Nicholas, her boys. So there won't be so many people around. And I'm sure they'll let you play outside as often as you want. But you just have to decide where you'll be the happiest."

"Well, we're a large pack, and we could definitely protect you," Zander said. "Not everyone stays here all the time... we have some, like Remus and Kris and Ashura, who only come around during the full moon, or if we need them. But Pearl and I stay here, and so does Chloe, and Karl, and Skye. If you stayed here, you could spend a lot of time outside, and you can help out with the work. Skye doesn't like to be inside much, either, so she does a lot of garden work."
