Joesph finished setting up the telescopes so that the students could view the moon and stars, just as an introduction to the class. There would be a few students that had experience with this sort of thing, but he was going to go back over it, just for his sake. He sighed and waited patiently as the students arrived.

Lily walked into her Astronomy classroom. She had always liked looking at the stars and imaging the other worlds out there, just waiting to be discovered. "Hello, Professor," she greeted him politely as she slipped into a seat near the front.

Joesph gave the red-headed girl a smile in greeting. "Hello," he replied. "I take it that you're Lily Evans, since you're one of the few red-heads at this school, no offense to you or anything. I want to go ahead and apologize if I call you by something else. It'll take me a few days to get used to everyone's names.

Lily nodded. "Yes, I'm Lily," she said. "I guess there aren't a lot of redheads in the school anymore, now that Molly Prewett and Arthur Weasley have graduated. "Although, I think there's a girl in Hufflepuff with red hair."

Natalie walked into the Astronomy classroom, her hair partially shielding her face. She had always liked astronomy and talking about the stars and planets, so she hoped she would like this class. She spotted Lily already sitting in front of a telescope, and gave her one of her shy half-smiles. "Mind if I sit here?" she asked quietly.

Andrea was in a foul mood as usual. She hated getting up at midnight and being forced to go to class. It seemed like complete torture to her. After all, she needed her beauty sleep. She stomped into the classroom, ignoring the teacher and the two girls who were already there. With an irritated sigh, she flopped down in the very back of the room and hoped she'd be able to doze off during class.
Jason walked in a minute later, ignoring everyone and sitting in the back on the other side of the room from Andrea. He was also in a bad mood, having just had another fight with Justine. He didn't want her to break up with him, but he didn't know if he could take the fighting much longer...

Justine walked into the classroom. Astronomy had always been one of her favorite classes, so she was in a good mood. She spotted Jason sitting in the back of the room and decided to ignore him. Instead, she sat in the front of the room and hoped he didn't decide to come over and talk to her.

Gia walked into the astronomy classroom and sat down. As usual, she felt a bit out of place. She wondered if Katie would be in this class. Sighing to herself, she took out her books and glanced up at the teacher. Suddenly she felt warm. Her new teacher was cute! She broke into an involuntary smile. Maybe this class wouldn't be so bad after all...

Rori finally made it to the Astronomy Tower. She thought she would never make it, because she was still half asleep. Rori saw Lily and Natalie. She smiled at them both and took a seat on the other side of Lily. "Hey," she greeted both Natalie and Lily.

"Hey, Rori," said Lily. "You're looking pretty tired... don't you just hate getting up and going to class at midnight?"

Joesph glanced around at the students in his class. He counted, and realized that a few students weren't there yet. He would go ahead and begin his lesson, and the other students that would probably come in late could catch up. He made a move to stand in front of his class and cleared his throat. "I am Joesph Carmichael, your Astronomy professor. Tonight we will just be observing the stars and on the pieces of parchment that I will supply you with, I would like you to name the constellations that you can see. If you don't know the name of some of them, it is alright. This is not going to be for a grade. I am just going to see where we stand," said Joesph. He turned around and grabbed the parchment, then passed it out. "You may use whatever telescope you want. However, I do not want you to help each other."

Sirius stumbled into class, rubbing his eyes sleepily. "Hey, sorry I'm late," he mumbled. "Couldn't wake up. What are we doing?" He slipped into a seat near Lily and tried to slap his cheeks lightly to wake himself up.

Lily paid no attention to Sirius and began to work on the assignment. She spotted Orion first, then Ursa Major and Ursa Minor. After looking around a bit she spotted Cassiopeia, Draco, and Cygnet the swan. As she found each constellation, she wrote it out on the parchment, then went back to the telescope to look again.

Justine ignored Jason and immediately threw herself into her work. The constellations were one of the things she knew really well. As a little girl, she had spent a lot of time sneaking out of the orphanage and looking up at the stars at night. So she was smiling slightly as she wrote down all of the constellations that she could see.

Gage got to the Astronomy classroom and tripped over his untied shoe laces, landing flat on his face. What was wrong with him? He couldn't take the extra five seconds to tie his shoes before going to the midnight Astronomy class? Now he was the new kid AND the klutz. He looked around and got up, hoping no one saw him fall.
"Sorry I'm late sir," Gage said, grabbing his things and heading to an open telescope. When he sat down, he tied his shoe laces, hoping the earlier incident wouldn't happen again.
Gage looked around the calss again and noticed that the others were already at work on something. His face twisted into a confused look and he hoped someone could help him.

Natalie saw the confused expression on the face of the boy who had just walked in. She sympathized, knowing how hard it was to waked up at midnight and go to class. Leaning forward to him, she said in a whisper, "We're just looking up at the sky and writing down all the constellations that we can see."
She noticed that he was a fellow Ravenclaw, and although she really didn't take much stock in the different houses, she felt it was only fair to introduce herself. "I'm Natalie, by the way."

Gage looked up at the sky, thankful that his mother had told him all those stories about different stars when he was young. He pulled out a piece of parchment and was ready to work when the nice girl named Natalie introduced herself.
"Gage," he said, nodding in that "hello" sort of matter. "Gage Oliver."

Natalie nodded back. "It's nice to meet you, Gage," she whispered. Other than Severus, not a lot of boys really talked to her. Most of them thought she was odd. And while she didn't really care what other people thought of her, it was still sometimes nice to hear a friendly word from someone.
Not wanting to get into trouble for talking in class, she didn't say anything else as she turned back to her work.

"Thanks," Gage whispered back to Natalie, and as she turned back to her work, so did he. Even though there was a telescope in front of him, Gage opted to look up at the stars with bare eyes first, taking in the beautiful midnight sky.
"Amazing..." he whispered to no one in particular.

Maxi ran into class and whispered a quick apology for being late and took a seat at a telescope and looking up into the sky. The stars were very soothing to Maxi. They made her think about her Dad, and times where they'd go camping under the stars. She reconized Ursa Major, and noted it on her paper.
Piece of cake.
