Mara entered the Death Eater's headquarters with an expression of curiousity. She had always wondered if she would ever be able to join the infamous DEs, but never had actually thought about it. Now, of course, she had...
The newly branded mark on her arm burned like crazy, but she accepted it. lately, she'd been learning how to control and focus her anger, to become more useful...

Charles sauntered into the headquarters, whistling as he walked. He was still in a good mood from his encounter the night before with Keira. She was quite a fascinating woman...
He paused to look in the mirror on his way in, smoothing back his hair neatly. He wanted to make sure it looked OK in case Keira was there. But as he walked into the main room, he saw another young woman. Grinning, he said, "Hello, love, and who are you?"

Mara spun around to face a blonde guy, "Mara Knight. Pleasure to meet ya," she said, smiling. Mara was busy running down lists of things she needed to get for her apartment... Milk... eggs... cheese... Haha, cheese... she thought, remembering how her father would charm cheese to attack the local muggle children. Mara, being a little girl, had always thought it funny. Her mother had looked on disapprovingly and told Mara to act like a young lady. Which Mara never did.

"Charles Mortensen, at your service," he said, smiling back. "It seems that the evil side always attracts the loveliest ladies." The thought of Keira flitted briefly across his mind. She probably wouldn't like him flirting with another woman... but then, they were hardly exclusive, right? She'd flirted with Tom right in front of him. What could it hurt? "Are you a new recruit?"

"I'd like to think not, but yes, I'm what you might refer to as a 'new recruit'," Mara said, with a quick smile. Inside her head, she rolled her eyes... This guy was clearly good at flirting. In fact, Mara guessed he probably even was seeing someone else. Mara knew she couldn't really trust anyone, especially where she was, so everyone was probably and experienced veteran to deception.

"Ah, well, welcome," he said, leaning against the wall with one arm. "I've been with him for a few years now, made a lot of recruits meself. He even sent me off on a special mission to recruit giants." He grinned. "Well, this place isn't much, but it's not bad, either. I've been thinking of getting one of those Muggle TVs to bring in here, what do you think?"

"I say, good thinking. My father used to tell me that the only thing Muggles are good for is TV shows," Mara replied, smirking. I fonly her father could see her now. Her mother would probably be devastated that she wasn't the one leading, but Mara didn't much care anymore. Like they were around to harass her anymore...

Charles laughed. "I agree. Although cheating them out of their money at poker is fun, too. In fact, pretty much any trick you can play on them is worth it. So, tell me, Mara, how long have you been working for the Dark Lord?"

"Well, about.. ah, say, officially, two weeks, unofficially... about since I was seventeen and did my first Crutiatus Curse on this annoying brat who broke into my house," Mara chuckled, "Now, that was fun, I tell ya. My father used to mess with muggles minds all the time. It was so hilarious."

"Muggles' minds are so easy to mess with, because there's not much there to fight you," Charles agreed. "I joined with him a few years ago. One of my Quidditch buddies introduced me to him. I always knew I would work for the dark side, though. I used to use the Imperious Curse on Muggles and make them do really crazy things."

"Yeah, I agree. It's too easy that it's funny," Mara shook her head laughing, "So you play quidditch, then? What team?"

"I'm with the Wimbourne Wasps," Charles said. "Only, I had to sit out this season. Got knocked off me broom last year in the playoffs and got a head injury. Gave me Vertigo. Soon as I get up in the air, I get dizzy."

"Ah... Yeah, I'm not big into the Quidditch scene, but I've heard of them, of course. Sorry about your accident then. Hope you'll be alright next season!" Mara said, nodding

"Yeah, thanks. I hope I'm better by next season, too. The team's not doing so well without me this season. But it's giving me some time off to work for the Dark Lord. He had me recruiting giants," he explained. "Nasty work, that. Almost got meself killed by this one really big one. I think he was the leader."

"Giants are horrible creatures. Annyoing, too. Hadan encounter when I went to France when I was about eleven and a half. Almost killed my parents and I," Mara commented. She shook her head, "Hate 'em."

"They're nasty buggers, all right." Charles frowned. "I don't know why he sent me to recruit 'em, but it was a tough job. I got some to join, but the others were just too dangerous. I was supposed to go back and convince the rest, but I decided it wasn't worth the risk."

"You can say that again. They scare me- a lot..." Mara said, "I wouldn't go back either. But, then again, Giants can help the Dark Lord quite a bit..."
