It took a moment to register that Christian was halting their 'reconciliation', when his words pierced through the lust-filled haze she froze. She was stunned at first. His words and actions were incomprehensible, then they were piercing.
She felt naked, shameful, and weak. She didn't even have the anger to yell at him.
Awkwardly she covered herself and slipped from the counter to the floor. She stumbled slightly, but caught herself. She was still confused. Christian's touch often was druglike and prevented her from thinking properly. She managed a strangled, "Oh..." before walking away from him.
Later she would be mad, for the time being she was in shock, but the additional blow to her self confidence would last.

She stumbled and Christian instinctively moved to catch her, but she managed on her own and he assumed she thought he looked like a git for trying to help her. Isn't that what she thought of him? Some idiot who was good enough with a wand to keep handy and take out the bad guys for her, but dumb enough that she could pretend to love him while she was actually loving on someone else.
She walked away from him and Christian stood there in the kitchen for a moment, trying to compose himself. He turned on the sink and splashed his face with cool water, trying to get the image of Diana kissing Burke out of his head. It simply wouldn't leave him be.
