Diana didn't know how to fix things between her husband and herself. She didn't know who was more to blame for the state of things between them, but pride was a lonely bedfellow and she and Christian were still sharing a bed - even if they weren't sharing much else. Diana had returned to walking on eggshells and Christian returned to Betty.
Diana didn't know the woman, but she hated her. Passionately. And whoever she was, she obviously didn't satisfy Christian enough to put him in a better mood. Even though he spent most of the day, and more frustratingly - the night - away from the house, the time he spent in the house he was either surly or drunk or both. Diana was going to snap.
Liam didn't help matters. This pregnancy was taking it's toll on Diana, coupled with the stress of survival, left Diana often feeling weak. She needed Christian's love and support more than ever, and he couldn't be more distant. Her emotional weariness was beginning to manifest in the most mundane of ways. She had a cold. And she was miserable.
For their children's sake Diana was once again extending the olive branch, but she didn't know where to start, nor did she have the energy. Putting on a robe she made herself some tea, and some more for whenever Christian would return from wherever he was. Tea wasn't the answer, but it was a gesture.

Christian wasn't with Betty. He hadn't seen the woman since Diana's image haunted him while trying to take the blonde bombshell on the stairs, back before he knew anything of his wife and their children. But she was an easy excuse, and one that he didn't feel sorry about in the slightest since seeing Diana and Derek together in the kitchen.
His drinking was increasing as his mood soured. He would wake up early after having slept in the same bed as Diana to ensure she was safe, claiming that if Silas could infiltrate her mind then just about any jackass could do the same. He would shower and eat before Diana awoke and then leave and attend to his business about the time Diana started to stir. He always waited until she was awake before leaving the house, though he sometimes questioned why Derek couldn't just come and look after her. Burke was the one f*cking her, he should have been the one to watch over in the night. After putting in a full (painfully sober) day of work, Christian returned to his home to check in on the construction. This is where his drinking began, and by the time he returned to the safe house with Diana he was well past buzzed.
Sometimes she would be fixing something to eat in the kitchen, wearing her sexy little kimono that would fall off her shoulder and expose her skin. Other times she'd be reading and chewing on her lip in an unknowingly seductive fashion. One time she had just stepped out of the shower and didn't have a big enough towel handy; he caught her slinking down the hallway to the linen closet to retrieve something to dry off with that would do more good than the tiny hand towel she was currently using. His attraction to her made him furious. She had turned his whole damn world upside down, nearly gotten him killed several times over, forced him to look an incompetent fool in front of Lord Voldemort, and had his house destroyed. And he still just wanted to f*ck her for the rest of his days.
It was maddening.
Today she was making tea when he returned. She was wearing a robe, the kind with the silky sash that could slip so easily with just a gentle tug, exposing what Christian painfully assumed was an unclothed, perfect body underneath. He sneered at his reaction to the attractive brunette as he brushed past her and made for the cabinet where the liquor was kept.

Of course Diana interpreted the sneer personally and scowled out of instinct. Schooling her features she turned to face him after he brushed by her.
"I made extra water, if you'd like a cup." she offered. She was biting her lip again, unconsciously willing Christian to oblige her.
She hated the distance, even if she caused it. A large part of her wanted to fold herself into his arms and stay there for the rest of eternity, why then she was always mucking up their happiness she would never know.

Christian didn't notice her scowling as he was not looking at her. Looking at her made him feel things he didn't want to feel, so he avoided it whenever possible.
"Unless you're turning that water into wine, I'll get my own drink," he said gruffly. He pulled the bottle from the cabinet and set it on the counter, then turned to see Diana was standing directly in front of the cupboard where the glasses were kept. He considered drinking straight from the bottle so that he wouldn't have to interact with her any further.

She frowned. He was always drinking. It never bothered her before, but it annoyed her now. Merlin how she wanted to smash that bottle he held over his head. She refrained and grit her teeth. Then as if remembering she was trying to be pleasant she turned and opened the cabinet reaching upward for a glass.
This action of course lifted her robe slightly revealing a generous glimpse of leg and thigh.
She turned to face him glass in hand and a smile plastered on her lips.
"How was your meeting?" she asked knowing he had worried about it.

He felt his heart thumping madly in his chest as Diana's legs revealed themselves. It wasn't as if he was pervert and just any sight of skin would make him hard, but there was something about Diana, an infuriating something, that made Christian feel like a boy again just from looking at her. He cleared his throat with a sort of half cough and looked up to meet her face as she smiled at him. That didn't do much good either. This was hell.
Christian took the glass from her and muttered "thanks" as if he was a child being forced into using his manners. He just wanted to go into the other room and drink alone, but apparently Diana had other plans. She asked about his meeting with Lord Voldemort.
"He finds me a disappointment for getting caught up with you," he said matter of factly as he turned toward the counter and poured his drink. With a glass of scotch now available to him, Christian turned and leaned his back against the kitchen counter. He looked just past her ear to the wall behind her. "Seems quite taken with you. But I suppose you're used to that, aren't you?" The image of Diana kissing Derek flashed in his mind.

Diana scoffed when Christian said he had been scolded for marrying her. What was so wrong with her that their 'great lord' found her so disappointing?
She was honestly surprised when Christian revealed Voldemort's interest in her. The very idea sent a shiver down her spine. She didn't want the man's attention in any respect. But finally she caught his last comment and rolled her eyes.
"Yes, they all just simply fawn at my feet." she scoffed.
"I'm so attractive, it's impossible for them to resist." she lamented sarcastically. No, Diana was not used to that kind of attention at all. She still saw herself as gawky and awkward even though she had become quite graceful as she learned martial arts. Now with her pregnant body she felt even more off balance. It was clear to her that Christian was no longer interested, what with Betty taking her place, and Diana saw all her own inadequacies.

"Apparently," he snapped at her. She had some nerve using that sarcastic tone and being so flippant about Derek with him. "It must be hell for you, having men falling all over themselves for just a little taste of you. Though some get it more easily than others!"

Diana looked up at him as his tone became more aggressive. She didn't know what he was talking about, but it struck a nerve with her anyway.
"You would know wouldn't you?!" she returned angrily. After all she had been one of those women. She had fawned over Christian from the first moment she met him. Ever the fangirl for the man she now called husband.
"But you have no problem spreading yourself around!" she accused.

His eyes narrowed at her accusation. She had assumed he had been going off with Betty because he had led her to believe that, because it was easier than addressing the feelings she stirred in him and the chaos that would be their relationship were it to continue as it was. But he wasn't actually seeing Betty.
Diana was actually screwing Burke. Or so he believed.
"Just like you, sweetheart."

She laughed. She couldn't help it. "You're ridiculous."
Diana not only had trouble spreading herself around, but she had failed so spectacularly with Derek it was laughable.
She had teased him about sleeping with Derek, but at no time did she think he took her seriously. It wasn't that Diana lacked self esteem. She found herself capable in many different ways, but she was still very unaware of her attractiveness.
Instead she believed him to be mocking her.
"It's a wonder you can tear yourself away from your conquests to bring yourself back here just to drink and b*tch."

"It's a f*cking blessing, is what it is, for you at least. You go off and get yourself in trouble and I have to f*cking watch out for you. You brought this sh*tstorm into my life and then you complain when I want a f*cking drink? You're just jealous you can't drink your sorrows away."

"I brought it? Me?]" she looked at him astounded.
"You f*cking egotistical, son of a b*tch! It's all about you isn't it? I f*cked your life up!" she began pacing as she was truly incredulous and driven mad by the man in front of her.
"Let's just forget that you're the one who took a contract out on my life. You're the one who f*cked me and fled in the middle of a night with no way of getting in touch with you afterward. You're the one who pursued me, try looking in the f*cking mirror for someone to blame your problems on. I'm not your whipping post!"

"Oh yes, that's right. I'm the bad guy for doing my f*cking job. I know it's probably a difficult concept for you to grasp, little rich b*tch who's never had a job. Just lived off of dear old daddy her whole life. Some of us had to work, Diana. You know, that thing I was doing when I took the contract. The reason why I left in the middle of the night." He was done with her after a week, so he would have left anyway, but the family business was the reason she couldn't track him down. How different this would all be now if she had.
He set the glass down on the counter, not having had any of it yet. "I pursued you?" It was Christian's turn to be astounded. "You f*cking wiped my mind and then stalked me! You could have gone off and just screwed Burke then and there but you decided to drag me back in!"

He knew her now, so he knew where to attack, his words as always managed to pierce through her. She didn't hear anything beyond his bringing her father into the equation. Diana saw red. How could he know her and yet remain so stubbornly blind? Was she always to remain at fault with him? Would she ever win?
She lifted her hand to strike him, bringing it down hard against his cheek. She lifted her other hand to do it again.
Maybe she could somehow beat some sense into him.

She got one, but nothing more. She rose her hand to hit him again and Christian grabbed her by the wrist to stop her. His cheek stung, but it was nothing to the fury and arousal springing up inside of him. When they fought, it turned him on. It might have been twisted and unhealthy, but the passion in Diana's eyes when she argued with him, really argued with him, it was beautiful.
Christian grabbed her other arm preemptively and pushed her backwards until she was pressed against the kitchen counter. He looked at her, his eyes piercing and his jaw clenched. There was a moment where he wanted to strike her. Instead, he kissed her.

Diana fought, but only for a moment. When he kissed her like he did she felt as though she could see past his words into the heart of him. He kissed her with such intensity and passion it felt like a crime of nature not to reciprocate with her own fury. Her heart was so raw and hurt from him in the past, but she left it open to further attack.
She clung on him, grabbing him desperately. She yearned for his body against hers, yearned for the familiar connection that would break through where their words couldn't. She yearned to tell him she loved him, and yearned to hear him respond the same.

As soon as she stopped fighting him, he released her hands and brought his own to her waist, pulling her against him. It didn't bother him in the slightest to feel the tiny bump in her stomach pressed against his. She was perfect in spite of it.
His hands moved around to her front, grabbing each side of her robe and forcing it open with a slight groan of excitement as he looked upon her naked body. His mouth moved to her breasts, gently kissing the smooth skin as he trailed his lips back up to her neck. He pulled her hair, exposing her neck.
There was no reasoning with him now. He was angry with himself for giving in to temptation. It would lead no where good, and yet he was too weak to resist. It was almost pathetic how much he wanted her. Needed her. Craved her.
Christian lifted her suddenly, placing her on the counter and spreading her knees as his mouth trailed downward.

Diana was so caught up with her husband she forgot all the reasons she was mad at him. She forgot their distance, their anger. She forgot Betty. It was heavenly to forget Betty. Forget that another woman had kissed Christian the way she had kissed him. Forget that another woman had received the same skillful touch Christian was now bestowing upon her.
She might hate herself in the morning, but she hated herself most days anyway.
She passed the moment of stopping what was happening, she didn't want to stop, she gave over completely.

His pants grew tighter as his lips hovered over her skin. Diana was the last woman he had been with. The only woman he'd been with in what seemed like a very long time, at least for Christian. But he wasn't the last man she'd been with. She was with Derek. Just the other day. Had he kissed her like this? Were Derek's lips where Christian's were now? Did Burke's fingers move as Christian's did?
The anger was back, once again superseding the desire to bond with his wife as they had before. His movement stopped and he froze for a moment, attempting to force the image of Derek with his wife from his mind. It wasn't working.
Angry and aroused, two states he found himself in more often than not around Diana these days, Christian stood and stepped back from her. He looked at her, almost a pained look but not quite. "I don't have time for this," he said as he straightened himself up and ran his hand through his hair. "I have a date. With Betty." Coward.
