She narrowed her eyes at him. "Fine." she said after a long while. She grimaced, but sat up on the bed and moved her feet to the floor. A cold sweat broke out on her forehead as she attempted to stand up.

He honestly hadn't expected her to give in so easily but the surprise was short lived as Diana decided that instead of answers she wanted to get up. "What the hell are you doing, Diana? Are you trying to hurt yourself?"
He stood and blocked her path from the bed. He was trying hard not to order her to lie down but if it became necessary he would.

"I'm trying to get some damn answers! And since you won't give them to me, I will go and figure them out myself. Just like you go off and do everything by yourself. It's not as though we're a team or anything. Not like what you do and where you go has any bearing on my life at all." She stared hard at him.
"Move." she ordered.

Christian held her at her shoulders, trying to be as careful as possible with her while not letting her move forward. "Like bloody hell you are! Who do you think is going to give you answers right now? Burke's not back yet. My mum certainly doesn't have a clue what's going on. Are you planning to walk up to Silas and f*cking ask him why he's after us? Come off it, Diana. Sit your ass down."

"Well why can't you just answer me then?!" she yelled pushing his hands off of her.
"Clearly you know what we're up against, but you won't talk to me!" she said distressed, but she sat back feeling light headed.
"Am I still just a prisoner to you?" she asked, "I thought we were past that."

His face hardened as she pushed his hands away but when she sat back onto the bed he relaxed. But only a little. Christian was weary. The time spent this morning unconscious under the anchoring spell was nothing near restful. He wasn't sure how long he was unconscious for when Burke brought him here but it was nothing near the length of time Diana had slept. He had sat awake at her bedside for hours; worrying about her, punishing himself for treating her so horridly, and trying desperately to make sense of the new feelings that had been spurred on by the day's events.
Arguing with his mother that she needed to leave her home and trying in vain to convince her she didn't need to pack the entire bloody house in her suitcase was exhausting, in and of itself. And the roller coaster of adrenaline that was his mother finding out about Diana's pregnancy had simply shut him down. The confessions brought on so many more feelings that he wasn't quite sure what to do with. He didn't want to yell at her, especially in her current state. But he didn't have the energy to fight his own hostility.
"Five minutes, five f*cking minutes of peace is all I get." He threw his hands in the air and turned away from her. He paced across the room once and then turned back, his expression still a mixture of exhaustion and anger. "I get it from Burke, I get it from my mother, and I get it from you. F*ck, Diana! You want answers? Ask your f*cking questions then! For f*ck's sake!"

"No. Don't turn it on me like that." she said just as angry, "I'm not trying to make your life more difficult Christian, but this is my life too. I'm involved. Put yourself in my shoes for f*ck's sake. You think you're the only one who is used to running the show? I've been running this particular channel by myself for two f*cking years before you became involved. And I've been sitting in the back seat for the last few weeks letting you take the wheel because frankly you didn't give me any choice. But it's different now. You decide right here, right now. Are we partners in this or not?"

It was different now. Things had started to change when he realized Diana's children were his and their marriage had been legitimate, and they progressed as Hanley scolded him for not taking better care of his pregnant wife. He woke from the anchoring spell feeling wholly in love with Diana though he didn't have time for those feelings to linger as they were instantly thrown into battle. And the memories Silas' Cruciatus Curse had revived were jarring and complicated.
"You're not a bloody prisoner, Diana! F*ck!" He was tired. It wasn't just the day's events. Christian had been running full steam for too long. Longer than his patchy memories permitted him to remember. He could have wrestled Diana to the ground and overtaken her easily, but he wasn't as strong as she was. He couldn't keep up.
He needed the arguing to end. He needed a break from everything and instinctively he reached for and kissed her passionately. But after only a moment he remembered how awful he had been to her and he pulled himself away. "F*ck!"

"I didn't say prisoner. I know I'm not a pri-" he kissed her and stunned her into silence. It was a different kiss than the ones she had been receiving lately. There was passion in the kiss. There was emotion in the kiss. It wasn't just about lust, which Christian was so easily capable of tossing around. He kissed her to quiet her, but in reaching out to her he reached her, as he so easily could have left her instead.
She was still dazed when he pulled away and then he cursed, only she took him literally, "I don't know if I can...maybe if we're slow."
She had some backwards idea about not sleeping with him anymore. That it complicated things and would disrupt their new found peace. But she was too dazed to remember that vow at the moment.

Christian ran his fingers through his hair as he tried to process too much at once. Not helping matters was Diana's strange comment. "What?" He looked sideways at her and realized what she was talking about.
After all the sh*t that Christian had put her through, she was still considering sleeping with him. Even when it would be physical torture with her wounds, she was contemplating it. Why? Then it came to him. Diana didn't just want to not be his prisoner anymore, or to take control of the situation. She actually did want to be partners with him. It wasn't a concession to buy her some freedom, she wasn't compromising by offer a partnership. Diana loved him.
"F*ck, I love you." He closed the space between them again with another kiss.

She giggled when he came to kiss her again, then hissed at the pressure, "That's not slow." she scolded. Then his words pushed through her amusement and she put a hand out to stop his actions.
"You what?" she asked, her features turning serious suddenly.

Christian's expressions turned to match hers. He hadn't meant to say it though he was fairly certain it was the truth. But it had slipped out accidentally and now he had to either backpedal or double-down on his emotions. Why did she always have to push?
There was a moment where he considered it. He could deny the emotions and connection he was feeling with her. He could blame his slip of the tongue on being tired or being horny or some pretty accurate combination of the two. But he was tired; too tired to pretend or to give some long-winded lecture. He just admitted it. "I f*cking love you, alright?"

Diana's mind was a scary intricate place. She had several options of how to respond, and honestly how to take his confession. There was curiosity. Why? Why did he love her all of a sudden? What happened to make him love her? There was frustration. She was wounded and couldn't f*ck him properly after his declaration. There was fear. Something terrible always inevitably happened when she allowed herself to love Christian - not that she ever stopped. But believing in him, and his love only set her up for more heartache. And there was happiness. Hope growing inside of her spreading to her fingertips and beyond. She wanted his love so badly.
She didn't need to make a decision however as the wound in her chest began to seep and she passed out from blood loss and exhaustion.

He didn't know what was happening at first as her eyes rolled into the back of her head but quickly after her body went limp and Christian moved to catch her. He pulled her back onto the bed as he called out for his mother and ordered her to call Dr Hanley.
The doctor arrived minutes later as Christian was fussing over Diana's bandages. He let Hanley take over and watched anxiously as his mother stroked his arm and assured him that Diana would be okay. He didn't like this feeling of worry.

Diana was dreaming. Christian said he loved her. He held her in his arms and looked at her the way he used to. Before she took his memories. Before he tried to kill her. Before the world started spinning backwards.
It had to be a dream.
But enough was enough. Diana needed rest even if she had to be sedated to make it happen. Christian could have done with some rest himself. The Wards were going to die from pure exhaustion. Bedrest. She didn't have to regrow bone, just some tissue in the lung. But it would take another day or two of sleep.
