Derek was prepared for an inquisition, he was mildly surprised it hadn't happened earlier, but seeing as how Christian had been busy with Diana the delay was reasonable.
"Hadelman was the first. You took him out in Barbados. I wasn't there, but I prepped the mission. I had 'other' business." he said knowing Christian would know what that meant.
"The first job we worked on together was Sanchez."
Eve was quick to obey taking a seat next to Christian.

Diana had mentioned the Barbados hit. She said they stayed there for the weekend in the dead man's hotel suit. The memory seemed to make Diana happy.
"Barbados? Interesting place to hide from hit wizards." He looked to Eve and smiled. "Seems like a place better suited for someone like you, love. Shame you didn't join me."

While they had looks in common, the similarities ended there. Eve couldn't fight to save her life. Then again Diana had been in the same shoes only a few years ago.
Eve lowered her eyes but smiled prettily at Christian, "A shame indeed."
Derek rolled his eyes.

"Something you want to say, Burke?" Christian was not oblivious to Derek's eye rolling. Was he like this naturally or was it a side effect of watching Christian flirt with a fake girlfriend?

So maybe a small part of him felt guilty about involving Eve. Maybe it was the fact that he hadn't told Diana about her part in his scheme, but as long as Christian couldn't sleep with Eve - or anyone other than Diana - for that matter, there was relatively no harm. He hoped. Still, he didn't need to witness the fawning either.
"I didn't much care for the two of you pawing each other the first time around, you'll forgive me if I don't care to go through it a second time."

Fawning and flirting was all there could be, since apparently Christian was sworn to be faithful to only Diana, a woman he currently found an insufferable pain in the ass. Derek was at no risk of witnessing anything more, and Christian was quite certain Derek knew that.
"Sanchez," he said, returning to the original topic. "Tell me about that one." Christian pulled Eve closer to him, watching Burke's reaction from the corner of his eye.

Derek took a long sip of his drink, "Got a little hairy." he admitted, "That's when the new player first showed up. We made to Sanchez too late, he was already dead."

"Do we think this is the same bastard that obliviated me?" Christian asked with a look of sincere curiosity. In reality, Christian was aware that it was Diana who had stolen his memories, the woman whined about it regularly. But as he was keeping up the ruse to keep Derek out of his hair, he had to play the part.

"Could be, or you got to close to the final board member. In either case an unknown is a dangerous thing, and I would consider his or her identity a priority as well as the last target." Derek said without the slightest hesitation in the lie.

The assassin would be a plausible threat, despite not being the culprit in Christian's memory loss. Looking into the identity and employer of the assassin would have to be high on the list of priorities.
"Do we have any leads on who this wizard is, or who he works for?"

"Nothing." Derek said, "If you weren't on our side, I'd have thought it was you." he commented. He took a bitter gulp of his drink at that. They had thought it was Christian, or rather the assassin that was hired to take out Diana. That had been their only lead, but as it wasn't Christian, it simply became another variable. An unknown.

"Don't worry, doll," Christian said to Eve who was pretending to be concerned by the assassin she'd never seen. "This bloke's left a trail somewhere, we'll find him."

The concern on Eve's face was legitimate. She was receiving a lot of money to be involved in whatever she was involved in, but assassins, murder, etc wasn't good for her long term plans. She began to worry about her own safety. At first it was just a role to play, but what if she was in danger now pretending to be this woman?
Derek saw Eve's concern and chewed thoughtfully on his lip, she was either an excellent actress or something was brewing in her mind.
"Yes, we'll get to the bottom of it soon."

Christian brushed the hair out of Eve's face, thinking the woman was an exceptional actress. Christian still couldn't figure out Derek's purpose in having Eve pretend to be Christian's girlfriend. Derek was clearly aware of the connection Christian and Diana had supposedly had, but his memories wouldn't be jogged by a look alike pretending to fawn over him. Unknowingly, Derek had already told Christian the only known method of counteracting a Memory Charm; torture. So a false romantic relationship with Eve seemed pointless, but perhaps there was more to Derek's methods than meets the eye.
That was also a worry.
"I think we've upset the lovely lady. I'm sorry, love. I'll get out of your hair. Burke, I trust you can comfort her." Christian didn't feel like comforting a woman who was only acting to be upset. He finished his drink and set the glass on the table as he rose.

Derek had originally thought to keep Christian distracted from pursuing his memories by having a pretty face. It also filled in some blanks romantically by having a stand in, but there was a clear difference between Diana and Eve.
He nodded, "I'll be in touch."

Christian nodded in return. He gave a charming smile to Eve before he turned to leave. On his way home he contacted his men and had a team start looking into the assassin Burke had mentioned; running down any known hit wizards and confirming their whereabouts and connections over the summer.

She was waiting for him at the top of the stairs, "How'd it go?" she asked getting to her feet. She couldn't go down the stairs but it was clear that she had been anxious for Christian to return.
Freshly showered and feeling a little more like herself she threw on one of Christian's shirts and left her legs bare. It was an unconscious decision, and her tight pants were no long comfortable whenever she didn't charm away the bump.

He had literally just stepped through the door when she started hounding him. He didn't look at her as he went into the kitchen and made himself a sandwich. After a few bites he carried his snack to the stairs and walked up to the landing halfway up the stairs. He leaned against the railing as he took another bite and looked up at her.
"Is that my shirt?" he asked incredulously.

Diana was going to try something different. Berating and nagging didn't work, neither did sickeningly sweet charm (though to be fair she didn't give that one much of a try), she would try sincerity now.
She was patient as he went and fixed himself something to eat. She didn't glare or remind him that it had been hours since she had eaten anything, though she did bite her bottom lip and eye his sandwich.
"Huh?" she looked down and noticed for the first time that she was indeed wearing his shirt.
"Oh. Yeah. Yes." she blinked, "Sorry, I didn't notice." It had been mixed up in the clothing that he handed her and the rest of her clothes were dirty, which meant she'd need to ask for permission to use the laundry room if she didn't want to handwash things, and she didn't have time for that.

Christian gave an aggravated look. How did she not notice she was wearing a man's shirt. And not much else! Christian eased his annoyance by taking in her long, toned legs. He smiled unconsciously as his eyes traveled over her frame. In his baggy shirt her baby bump was hardly noticeable and definitely didn't distract from her natural sexiness.
"Wash it when you're done with it," he said with a look. He'd let her wear it for now. He took another bite of his sandwich.
