He was banged and bruised but healing quickly. Alek was much more concerned with the injuries Christine had sustained, though she had tended to them well. His shoulders were heavy with guilt for the attack she had been under and the scar she now sported permanently on her arm. His demons had followed him and attached themselves to her as vengeance. It was his fault.
He attempted to make it up to her in kindness and patience but he knew she was wanting more than that. Christine wanted him to open up to her, to share and to allow her to be compassionate to his circumstances. That was a much heavier burden but he knew now that he harbored true feelings for the girl and to that end he would try his damnedest to give her what she deserved.
It was raining and when the wind whipped at him the long gash on his back stung. Alek ignored the sensation, having dealt with much worse, this simple stinging was easy to overlook. He wiped his feet on the mat just outside the door before bringing in a large stack of firewood and setting it near the hearth. He threw a few larger pieces on the grate and set a fire blazing with his wand.

Christine was sleeping on the couch, a book in her lap. She had stayed the night and taken care of him for a few days now. He was doing well enough on his own to be moving around but then the storm started and they had delayed her send off. They only had four days before the full moon, and two of those days would be taken up by the Raun, which meant Christine would need to leave tomorrow at the latest.
His entrance stirred her awake, and she smiled her eyes still closed, "Mmmm, the fire's nice." she said enjoying the heat. As she sat up the blanket fell to her lap when she stretched. She opened her eyes to see the storm still raged on.
"It's cats and dogs out there."

Alek turned away from the fire as Christine woke. She was a natural beauty and Alek admired her for a moment before getting to his feet.
"Radio says it should clear by tonight."
He moved toward the sofa where she now sat and picked up the book she had been reading. Ancient Rituals of the Werewolf. "Have you a research paper due for school?" he asked with a pointed look. She had put up with so much and nearly lost her life in the process, she deserved some answers. He was trying, but it was a struggle for him.

"Ha. Ha." she said snatching the book back from him. "I don't attend school anymore." Not since she had been kidnapped. She had requested to finish her studies at home with tutors as she had before she attended Hogwarts, all that was left was to take her N.E.W.T.s and she wasn't worried about her scores, or her abilities with what Bella had taught her, and the desire it sparked to learn more.
"And if you don't feel like talking about it, then I will just have to get my own answers."

Alek scoffed as she took the book back from him. He'd given up on reading books like that one, not that he'd read that particular title, because of the skewed perspective most authors took when discussing werewolves. They saw rituals like the Raun as "barbaric" and "primitive" and often left out key details that made the events seem twisted and dark. Even the more accurate texts seemed biased against werewolves. Alek had come to expect it.
"Why don't you read something more interesting? Lex has a stash of romance novels hidden away that she thinks no one knows about."

She leaned back on the couch, "Because I already know all I need to know about romance." she said flippantly. She had found the same problem Alek said when dealing with the werewolf texts, and for the life of her she didn't understand why Alek kept so many books that would paint his kind like they did. What she wouldn't give to get her hands on the book he kept in the basement, but she was being good.
"You could tell me about the Raun...then I wouldn't have to read these silly things. I think the romance novels would prove more accurate than this." she said lifting up the book.

"I would have thought you'd read enough about that already," Alek replied with some heat, thinking again about how she had snuck into the basement to snoop. He instantly recognized his mistake, however, his appearance softened as he moved to sit on a plush chair across from Christine.
"I'm sorry, I just..." Alek didn't know how to share himself with her. It was difficult and seemed messy and brought up emotions he didn't want to purposely bring up.

"No, you're right." she sighed, "Get it out Alek. I shouldn't have snooped. If I didn't go down there, you wouldn't have yelled at me, I wouldn't have run away, I wouldn't have been attacked and you wouldn't be hurt." she looked away from him.
"But I...I don't regret knowing what I know. I just wish you didn't feel like you had to hide from me."

"Would you prefer I wear my ailment on my sleeve? Shout it from the rooftops, perhaps? I am the monster parents warn their children about. I am the nightmare that wakes you in the dark. Children fear me and men hunt me."
"Would you have trusted me that day in the woods if you knew what I was?"

"If you recall I had just been kidnapped by a very human wizard...I'd have trusted a dementor if I thought they would have helped me out of there." she said standing confidently and walking toward him.
"I've seen evil Alek, real evil. I've seen it all over the world. I've seen it attack my classmates, my family, your sister, me. And not once have I ever thought of you like that. You or any other werewolf."
She took his hand and lightly traced the scars there, " You call yourself a monster because you have claws and fangs, but you're not a monster Alek. I've known monsters, you're the thing that made my monsters afraid."

"Nearly knocked my head off with a rock," he muttered with an affectionate grin as she claimed willingness to trust an Azkaban guard at that moment.
Alek stared into her face as she traced the scars on his hands. He wanted to believe her. Merlin, he'd give anything to believe he wasn't a monster. But that was all he would ever be to society. It was all he had ever been to his father; a hybrid monster of Veela and Werewolf and never good enough.
He wanted to believe her so badly. Caught up in the moment Alek didn't think. He leaned forward and kissed her, holding her face tenderly.

She kissed him back, not out of some desire to forget someone else, not because she was drunk and needy, not even because it was a tender moment between them. She kissed him because she wanted him, and now that she knew at least a little of what made him who he was she wanted him even more.
She had refused him so many times. She didn't want to use him. She had more respect for herself to use anyone. She cared about him, but not romantically. But none of those reasons stood up anymore. She wanted him. She accepted him.

And Alek cared for her in return, which is why instead of pushing as he had done before, he pulled back. "I'm a flawed man at best, love." At worst, he was a beast, a jealous man, and a murderer. "You deserve more than I have."

Her eyes were soft, lazy almost in the haze of arousal, when he pulled back she stifled a whimper of displeasure and tried to clear her mind to hear what felt like a rejection. She refused to take it.
"I believe I'm the one who gets to decide what I deserve, and what I want..." she kept her eyes on his closing the distance between them once more and kissing his lips, then his chin, and along his jawline while her hands went for the hem of his shirt.
"And I." kiss, "Want." kiss, "You, Aleksander Eiriksen." she said pausing only briefly to look in his eyes again as she declared her desire for the man in front of her.

Thunder cracked in the distance as the storm outside raged on with no signs of stopping. Alek knew if he went for her now he would be as powerful as that storm and there'd be no coming back.
He could live with that.
He grabbed her and pulled her onto his lap as he met her kisses with his own passion. A passion he'd long suppressed in the belief that he was only using her. It had built up, locked away where not even he could reach it. But the door had been broken down when she was in danger and there was no point in fighting it any longer.

There, in front of the fire, with the storm raging around them, Christine fell in love for the second time. She'd never have been able to give herself to Alek if she didn't love him, and she did view sex in those terms of give and take.
They challenged the storm's endurance, round after round, as thunder and lightning echoed and competed with their less than discreet passion.
When she was spent fully, she curled into his arms exhausted and well satisfied.

Alek laid with her on the rug in front of the crackling fire. He caressed her soft, smooth skin with his rough fingers. His skin, in contrast, was marred by years of violence. They shouldn't have fit together, but somehow they did.

The rest of the day carried on much in the same way, pausing briefly to eat, and then back to pawing at one another. Months of foreplay had built quite an appetite that was now finally being sated.
Morning came too soon.
"Storm's gone." she said having been awake for a while merely basking in their intimacy, but with those two words she knew it meant she had to leave soon.

Alek turned his head away as he yawned. "It won't be safe for you here another night," he added, voicing what he was sure she was thinking. "More wolves will be coming in for the Raun." It was the first time since her adventures in the basement that he'd brought up the ritual unprovoked.

She turned in his arms to face him her laying her head against his chest.
"How long?" she asked.
Perhaps sleeping with him had been a bit of an impulse. She didn't regret it by any means, but nothing was said between them, and now she had to leave and she wouldn't hear from him for a couple of days. Where did this leave them exactly?
