"Nicolas Everheart! Such an improper question to ask of your mate's girlfriend...friend...erm....whatever." She wasn't sure what her title was now, in regards to Julian and thinking of that had effectively ruined the clever remark she had planned.
"Oh shut up," she scolded him preemptively and took the sandwich off his plate and took a bite. "This is quite good, you should really make one for yourself," she said without bothering to swallow first.

"I apologize. I was merely asking about your welfare. Have you quite recovered?"
He gave up the sandwich without a fight, which should have been Lyra's first clue. The second would have been the smile that played on his lips as he watched her eat.
"I'm glad you're enjoying it." he said trying hard to keep from laughing as purple spots broke out over Lyra's face.

Her chewing slowed as Nik's smile grew and when he could barely contain his laughter Lyra knew something was wrong. She looked to the sandwich in her hands to see what he'd done to it when she noticed small purple blotches developing on her skin. She quickly spit the sandwich out into the sink and dropped the sandwich onto the counter as she began to yell.
"Oh my Godric, Nicolas!! What the bloody hell is wrong with you!" She looked to the window to catch her reflection and sure enough there were purple spots all over her face. She rubbed at them with her fingers which did nothing but turn her skin red and exaggerated the purple coloring.
She turned on him quickly. "Make it stop! I have dinner with a designer tonight! You're so bloody childish!"

He couldn't reign in his laughter any longer and proceeded to let loose generous booming chuckles that echoed through the kitchen. He grabbed his stomach as tears came to his eyes. He could hardly speak. He had wanted to one up her so badly for all the childish games she played with him and he had succeeded masterfully.
"You should have thought of that before stealing my sandwich." he laughed.

Lyra took two long steps toward him and punched him hard in the shoulder. "I'm not joking, you tosser! This isn't funny! My face...I don't go around ruining your best features! Well, I certainly wouldn't if you had any!" She scowled, then punched him again.
"Stop bloody laughing, you twit!" she whined. Lyra was mad, but not too mad. She would come to see this as a funny story one day. Not today, but one day.

For a tiny thing she packed a punch and he had to hold his shoulder, but he didn't stop laughing.
"Oh bravo, your face is turning purple to match the spots!" he laughed then moved quickly out of her way dodging whatever attacks might have come.

Nicolas wasn't being any help and his delight seemed to increase as she grew angrier, and as he laughed harder Lyra's face grew more stern. She conjured a mirror and whined at what she saw in it, then drew her wand and pointed it at her face. "Finite Incantatem." Nothing.
She pointed her wand at Nicolas. "Seriously, Nik. Fix this or so help me Godric I will curse you into next week!"

He brought his wand up to defend himself in case she should get any ideas, but he was still laughing. It felt good to laugh, not many saw his humorous side.
"Sorry pet, looks like you're stuck that way." he said after she tried to end the jinx.
"Look at it this way, it could have been puking pastilles."

She could not leave the kitchen looking like this, let alone attend a business meeting. Clearly Nicolas didn't understand the urgency of the matter. "First you try to ruin my relationships with Sam and Julian and now you're trying to sabotage my career!" she shouted before starting to cry.

His humorous look dropped completely and a thin sneer came over his face.
"First of all, I never tried to ruin your relationship with Sam or Julian. But I can see how someone with no sense of personal responsibility would pass the blame on another to avoid facing reality."
He went to the cupboard and retrieved a cup then went to the sink to fill it half way with water. He walked toward her and tossed the contents on her face. The purple spots began to vanish immediately, and would have disappeared as soon as Lyra showered for her dinner.
"Secondly, I have been there for you more times than Julian or Sam and I've known you the least amount of time, but if you're determined to make me the villain in your little fairy tale, then I will certainly step up to the plate."
He tossed a towel at her before leaving the kitchen all together ignoring any comment she might have made. Once in the hallway he took an early turn before she could catch him effectively cutting her off from following him.

Lyra struggled to maintain the facade that she was crying as Nik began his lecture and attempts to hurt her pride. She wanted to laugh but as he was obviously moved into action by her show, she kept up the charade until her face cleared. Then she would laugh and when he saw that she had played him he would get even angrier and she'd have to worry about whether the kitchen floor was clean enough for her as she rolled around laughing.
But the surprise of cold water being thrown in her face made her gasp and the truth of his next words shocked her further. She didn't have time to apologize or even tell him it had been a joke as he threw a towel in her face and stormed off.
"Nik, wait!" Lyra attempted to follow him but when she reached the hallway it was empty. "Nik! Nicolas?!" She had no idea which way he had gone and she couldn't even go back to the sitting room where she had first found him as she had no idea where she was. "Damn this ridiculous castle!"

Despite his words, Nik would not step up to the plate of being a villain.
A few moments later a house elf appeared in front of Lyra, "Hello Mistress. Master Nicolas sent Gabby to guide you." the oddly pretty house elf said while curtsying deeply.

Lyra was relieved when a house elf appeared and even more so when she said she had been sent by Nik. Lyra sighed.
"Thank Merlin, I thought I was going to be lost in here forever. I knew Nicolas was only teasing me. So where is he?" she asked as she followed along after the tiny creature. She was going to give him an earful when she caught up to him.

"Oh I do apologize if I misled you, mistress. Master Nicolas has retired to his estate for the evening." the elf explained. A few more hallways and they were at the foyer of the grand castle.

"What?" Lyra stopped in her tracks and soon realized they were standing in the front foyer. She was being escorted out.
Lyra wanted to argue, but it would have done no good as the house elf had no say in the matter. Lyra scowled, frustrated that she had spoiled their day and annoyed at Nicolas for responding as such. She gave up any possible fight that she had stored inside of her and departed for her own home, thanking the house elf as she left.
