Lyra felt hollow yet warm as she looked up at him through the tears that blurred her vision. She wiped the back of her hand across her eyes to see him more clearly. He was perfect, flaws and all.
She picked up his exposed arm and ran her finger tips across his scars once more before lifting his arm to her mouth and kissing them. The warmth spread over her and shifted her body so that she was sitting more upright on his lap. She ran her hand through his hair. She wanted to tell him but there were no words to tell him exactly how much she wanted him. Instead, she kissed him.

He had long gotten over the pain of the scars, or so he had thought, but when Lyra kissed his disfigurement he felt something inside him fracture. Neither of them could explain what the other meant to them, but they could express themselves physically which he did by deepening the kiss she started.

She kissed him long and hard and passionately, but she didn't let it go any further than that. Lyra meant what she had said earlier, they weren't ready to date. Not seriously, though Lyra would of course be faithful to him. But they both had such a long road ahead of them and if they didn't at least try to heal then they stood no shot. And tonight had been such a rocky climb she wasn't sure if she could handle anything as wonderful as coming together with Julian physically.
Lyra now understood why Nicolas was insistent she get help for her problems, he didn't want her to turn out like Julian; still hiding his pain years after the wounds had closed. But she was also furious with Nicolas for keeping such an important detail from her. She might have given over to his demands much sooner had she known exactly what she was putting Julian through.

It wasn't Nik's story to tell, but he would have put his foot down with Julian if Lyra hadn't taken his advice. As it was they were both in need of healing, and maybe if they could find a way to be honest with each other they would stand a chance.
He wasn't ready to let her go, but he didn't know where this left him. She wanted a break, he needed one, but at the same time he had just opened up to her and separating from her felt impossible.

Lyra could tell what he was thinking, she was thinking it too. What now?
"Hang on," she said as she gently kissed lower lip and pulled herself out of his arms. She went in to the kitchen to find Mimsy had placed a warming spell on their dinner and the pizza was still pipping hot. Merlin, that little elf was amazing.
Lyra returned a few minutes later levitating the pizza, plates, a fresh bottle of wine, and two glasses out. She set everything on the coffee table in front of Julian and swished her wand toward the closet where the movie projector was stored. It set itself up behind Lyra as she looked at him, her face still streaked with now dried tears.
"Dinner and a movie doesn't count as a date date, right?" They weren't leaving the flat, so it couldn't be a date, she reasoned.

Julian laughed at her reasoning. It felt incredible to laugh honestly, though the idea of him laughing seemed impossible to him. That was Lyra's power.
He opened his arms to her inviting her to sit down.
"What are we watching?"

Lyra hadn't gotten that far in the planning process, she wasn't sure what movie to conjure. They'd watched a variety of genres thus far; comedy, romance, action, animated. But Lyra didn't know any titles off the top of her head, luckily Julian had arranged for that when he thoughtfully gave her the gift.
She picked up a list of movies he'd written for her and then accepted his offer and climbed back into his arms. "I don't know what any of these are. Let's just go with this one," she said pointing to something called The Omega Man. "That's the same actor from that monkey movie, right? I liked him. He's handsome."

"Heston it is." he said using his wand to set the movie up. He served her the pizza and then for himself.
If they could keep civil like this, then perhaps they could make it together after all.
