It had been a nice day. Alek had accompanied Christine into the city to look at apartments, then the pair had dinner and saw a movie. It was effortless to spend the day with her, feigning an attraction for the gorgeous, vivacious girl. It was also all too easy to yet again end up in his study sometime later that evening, pouring her another glass of bourbon.
"And after the pirates," he said as he turned from the bar and handed her the glass, "where did you go, then?" Christine had been telling Alek about more of her adventures travelling with her uncle. Alek found her stories riveting. Speaking of her escapades gave her a glow.

"Believe it or not we ended up in the Middle East." she told him, "And that is a story for another time." she said taking the glass he offered her.
She took a deep sip, though she had already had several glasses, and smiled lazily at him.
For her the day had been a most welcome distraction. Alek made her feel free and strong. She had shown him some other bits of magic she had learned and then began talking about her life. She didn't even realize the late hour.
"Alright, your turn. Tell me a story."

Alek sat beside her, his body angled into the corner of the sofa so as to keep their conversation flowing. Her lazy smile was endearing but not enough so for him to start sharing his past with her.
"Oh come now, you can't simply tease me with a tale from the middle east and try to change the subject. I've no stories worth telling that could possibly outdo your adventures." He was deflecting, but at the same time her tales were actually intriguing to him.

"I-" she said sitting up and precariously balancing the glass she held so not to spill it, "-have been talking all night."
She leaned in toward him, her hand resting against his chest partially for balance. "It's."poke,"Your." poke "Turn."
She grinned a little more than buzzed.

She was drunk. Alek was fast approaching that status as well as he took another large sip from his glass. "And doing such a marvelous job at keeping my interest," he said of her complaint that she'd dominated the conversation. He had designed their night to be as such, it hadn't happened by accident.
Alek looked down at her finger as she poked his chest, his brow raised in amusement. "Well, there was this one time I found a girl lost in the woods, but I think you know how that adventure turned out."

"Oh? And was this girl pretty?"
She asked, fishing for an obvious compliment. She laughed even then sighed. She felt warm and flushed, but she was having a good time.
She thought about their time in the woods, and all their adventures to date. He had played the hero so often, and now he played the great listener, but she suddenly felt inadequate.
"You know so much about me, would it kill you to tell me about yourself?"

Alek smiled at her, almost child-like in a way, when she prodded for a compliment. Christine knew she was gorgeous and flaunted it as she leaned against him, her shirt hanging in a revealing manner. It was an unconscious action at most, but Alek enjoyed it nonetheless.
"It might," he answered teasingly as he took another drink, letting his arm hang over her shoulder affectionately.

She frowned.
"I'm prying?" she asked then sat silently. The truth was she felt so at ease with him, her entire life had become an open book, but she realized he must not feel the same way about her.
Maybe he didn't really want to hear about her life, he was just indulging her. Maybe she was a really big imposition on his life, but he was too kind to be honest with her. He certainly didn't want her to get to know him by the way he kept everything under lock and key.

Alek always kept everything under lock and key. As leader of one of the largest packs in Europe, he found it difficult to open up to anyone. He was always suspicious of other people's motives, and seeing as how he often had his own ulterior motives it was only cautious to assume everyone else did too. Of course, he didn't believe Christine to be of any threat to him. But what was the point in opening up about his wretched childhood or his tormented years under his father's boot when he was simply using Christine. There was nothing to gain in sharing his tales with her.
Or so he thought.
"Let me refill your glass," he said as a means to avoid her question. He took the glass from her hand and stood, moving to the bar.

And she knew it. He wanted her trust and friendship, and her in general, but he would give nothing of himself which meant she had no ground to stand on when it came to a relationship between them. If his actions were conscious then it meant he didn't want a real relationship with her friendship or romantic.
"No. I think I'm done for the evening."

"We haven't even finished the bottle," he said with a chuckle. Between the two of them, Alek was going through quite a lot of bourbon these days. It was an early night indeed if Christine was throwing in the towel already.
Ignoring her statement, Alek filled her glass and extended it to her.

"My God we're alcoholics." she said with mild disgust. There were only two of them, they didn't need to finish a bottle of bourbon by themselves. Most people would consider that quite indulgent indeed.
Regardless she took the glass he offered her, still frowning.
"Well that's at least one thing I know about you."

Alek scoffed at her comment. "You know I'm devilishly handsome, that's at least two things right there. I'm sure you know many more, but there is no need for an interrogation to discover who I am."
Only a man with a guilty conscience would interpret her polite questions as an interrogation. But here they were.

"So now I'm interrogating you." she said just intoxicated enough to sound bitter over it.
"A devilishly handsome rogue with an affection for bourbon and darts." there was more but she knew if she brought up other things about him, he'd close himself off for good so she kept her observations to herself.
"Meanwhile you know just about everything there is to know about me."

"Well," he mused as he continued to stand in front of her, "I find you very intriguing. And you do seem to like to talk."
Alek was definitely impaired now as he nearly emptied his glass.

"Maybe I'm filling in the silence." she replied. She didn't know why it bothered her so much that he wasn't as forthcoming with his life as she was with hers.
Perhaps it felt off balance, as though she was too deeply in his debt. He had rescued her and that created an instant bond of trust. Since then he has happily played the hero to her damsel and so she had begun to open up to him, unaware that he had completely kept himself concealed until now where she felt distinctly at a disadvantage.

Alek gave yet another child-like smile before finishing his drink. He let the room fall silent as he turned his back to her and refilled his glass. When he turned around he wore the same grin. Still he said nothing.

His smile was irresistible and she called him on it.
"That's not fair!" she whined, "You can't just give me a little boy smile and make me forget that I'm trying to be mad at you for being Mr. Secret Guy."
Yes she was intoxicated, and as cute as his childish smile was she matched him with an equally childish pout.

His grin grew. He leaned forward and caressed her cheek, then brought his thumb to her pouting lip.
"Yes, it would appear that you do feel the need to fill the silence." He straightened himself up and took another drink. "Mr Secret Guy sounds like a superhero. Or maybe the villain," he chuckled.

His thumb parted her lips and an all together different look entered her eyes. Her entire body responded to his touch, they had been dancing around one another, mostly Christine playing the coquette, but the physical attraction was undeniable. Christine felt on the edge of a very high cliff, and in the mood she was in a part of her was just careless enough to jump.
"Tell me a secret." she said suddenly very intent.
