She hadn't been entirely honest when she fought with Dorian the previous evening about simply being an adult and having a say in whether she went out or not. She indeed had to sneak out from the guards at the Montgomery estate. While she understood her family's concern, it was galling that her cousin who was younger than her and in 'danger' herself didn't have the guard that Christine had. Then again Sam didn't have a serial killer dedicating murders to her.
"You give me enough credit for the both of us." she smiled. He thought she could do anything and that is what she needed.
She finished her glass.
"What makes you think I'm so capable?"

She had managed to escape from a murderer who had captured, tortured, and killed several girls. The only other woman thus far who could say the same had spent several days in a coma and several more weeks under strict medical care. Lex should have stayed at the hospital longer but she was as stubborn as her twin.
Alek didn't want to say any of this, knowing Christine would only hear the part about the still missing or murdered girls and blame herself. She put too much weight on her small shoulders. "I've seen it," he answered simply.

He made her feel better. It was easy to see why she wanted to spend time with him; why she ran to him after her encounter with Dorian.
She moved toward him, her hips naturally swaying, a lazy unpracticed sensual look in her eye, "You know...there's plenty of room in New Zealand if you want to join me."

Alek fancied Christine. Possibly one day he could love her. But today was not that day and he had too much at stake to give it up for a pretty girl. He was starting a war. You don't put that on hold for New Zealand.
He raised his brow at her sensuality. "What will you do in New Zealand?"

Christine had no definite plans. She was just enjoying the idea of leaving her problems behind her.
The daydream ended as she shook her head and answered, "No idea."
For a long moment she simply looked at him. It dawned on her that she had run out of things to say. Though she wanted to stay and let the irresponsibility continue, Christine had imposed on him enough for one night.
"I'll have to think about it." she said putting the glass down. "I should probably get home."

"Back to the prison," Alek said teasingly. "Should you need another reprieve from your sentence, my door is always open."
He might have offered to walk her home, but after their talk of her constantly under a watchful eye he thought better of it. She could manage on her own. And perhaps on her way she'd decide that she didn't need to go back home at all.

"One for the road." she said pouring another shot and downing it quickly. She leaned on her toes to kiss his cheek before leaving him, glancing back only once to give him a smile.
She had a meeting with Bella that day or she might not have returned to the castle. As it was, there was hell to pay when she arrived.
