It was nearly midnight but the house was lit up like the Fifth of November; Lex was still awake. Alek thought nothing of it as she was probably working on some other case for the Ministry. He wasn't sure what this one entailed, Alek had stopped listening after she refused to resign from the Auror Department. He knew it was safer than the serial killer case and that was enough.
The mixed emotions he had felt at the bar when Christine left still lingered when he arrived home. Alek headed to the kitchen in search of some water in the hopes of staving off a headache in the morning. He smelled of alcohol and Christine's perfume.

The light in the kitchen turned on to reveal a very upset Lex with her arms crossed over her chest.
She didn't speak, not yet, she waited until the scent of alcohol and Christine wafted through the air to confirm her suspicions.
"You were with Christine again today, all day, tonight." she said rather than asked, " Did you sleep with her?"
Lex's voice was ice.

Alek was surprised by her presence for only the briefest moment. He smirked. "I see your refined deductive reasoning skills have not failed you," he said sarcastically with a bit of a bite. "Unfortunately for you, sister dear, a gentleman never kisses and tells."
He came fully into the kitchen and opened the cabinet to retrieve a glass, then turned to the faucet.

"Answer the question Alek!" she persisted coming to his side, but as she got closer Christine's perfume grew stronger and she felt as though she had her answer.
"How could you?" she shook her head at him, "What is wrong with you?"
"Does your hatred of our brother extend so far that you would take advantage of that poor girl who has already been through hell? My friend Alek!"

Alek set his glass on the counter with such force that water splashed over the rim. He turned to face Lex and snarled his response to her ignorant question. "Yes! Our brother is the reason father hated us. He's the reason I ended up in the hospital more times than I can count! You have no idea what it was like, not really. You had mother's protection while I had father's boot!"

Lex had fallen on the wrong side of their father's boot a time or two but never to the extent that Alek had.
"No idea? Who was there every time to take you to the hospital, to clean and dress your wounds? Who almost killed him to stop his beatings? I may not have felt the physical lash, but I knew the same helplessness Alek. And it was our mother who is the reason our father hated us. Our mother who forced father to forsake his first wife and child. Our mother who was responsible for our brother's abandonment and his mother's death. I had mother's vindictiveness and father's indifference. It was our parents who deserve your anger and your punishment, our brother is innocent. Christine is innocent! They were monsters, and you are walking the path they set for you."

Dressing wounds was insignificant to watching the world fade into a blurry darkness at the bloodied fists of your own father and waking up with broken bones and indescribable pain in a sterile room with a curtain around your bed listening to your whore of a mother lie to the nurses to protect the man that put you there. Alek was never good enough for their father. But Dorian would have been. Dorian could have saved Alek from his hell. But there was no reprieve for Eirik's second son, his disappointment.
"I am making my own path!" he roared. "I follow no one but myself and I will be greater than our father ever was or our brother ever could have been!"

Lex jumped when he roared and took a few steps away from him.
"Still trying to prove yourself to him. He's dead Alek." she sighed and turned her back on him, "Leave Christine alone. Leave our brother alone. I love you, but I will not stay and watch you turn into the man who made you like this."

"And what if I don't keep away, sister? What will you do then?" Alek's features shifted from aggressive to smug as Lex walked away from him.

Lex knew Alek didn't respond well to ultimatums. He would go against her out of spite. She was silent for a while not knowing what approach to take finally she turned to face him, "You still don't get it do you?" her frown deepened as she looked at her twin.
"Yes, Christine is my friend. She's been through hell at the hands of a psychopath, and it is dastardly and cruel that you are pretending to have affections for her to bring down our brother who has done nothing to you. When it is our mother who is responsible for his abandonment. But it is not that you are content to ruin innocent lives to satisfy your whims it is that you cannot see that in doing so you will become the man that made you like this. You will become our father. And that Alek, is what I cannot bear."

"I am nothing like our father!" Alek's face instantly contorted with rage and his voice was so loud it shook the walls. He yelled fiercely at her, with more rage than should be permitted in a single person's body. Hidden away, deep down beneath the scars of his abusive childhood was a terrified wolf who knew what his sister said was true. But there was so much hatred piled on top of him that Alek didn't even know it existed.

It was there then in Lex's eyes just how close Alek was to appearing as their father. Lex was afraid of him and shrunk back in fear.
She never should have sought out their brother, now because of her Alek would take revenge for imaginary slights and Dorian and Christine would suffer. Once again Lex was on the outside looking in. Their father had kept her isolated and alone, and Alek would now do the same.
It wasn't fair. She was going to have to come clean to Dorian, and to Christine.

"Run away, sister," he snarled. "Get out of my sight before you force me to do something terrible."
Alek would never purposefully hurt Lex. He loved her deeply, but his temper was volatile. He threatened her as a warning to keep her safe. He was drunk and he was feeling murderous. She would be wise to leave him to himself for the night.

She glared at him and took a few more steps away, she would leave but not without a parting shot, "And then you will become exactly like our father Aleksandar." she hissed through tears before doing as he said and running away.

Alek growled menacingly at her comment, his teeth bared. He rushed after her but only as far as the doorway leading from the kitchen. He grabbed the door frame to keep himself from following after her further and roared after her.

Lex left. Not only the room, but the house as well. This wasn't their worst row ever, but it could easily mount to that level and she didn't think she could stomach the sight of him. If he was going to continue down a path of self destruction she couldn't bear to watch it.
