Aleksandra "Lex" EiriksenLex had been in the hospital for far too long and Alek was overjoyed that she was finally coming home today. (Alek's version of overjoyed was that he smiled to the point you could almost see his teeth.) Alek paced in her room, waiting for her to officially be released. He would be glad to no longer have to spend the majority of his day at St. Mungo's surrounded by the sickly and dying. Not to mention the Ministry personnel. With Lex and Christine there, Alek wasn't able to go five paces without bumping into an Auror or worse; Dorian.

Lex laughed at her brother's expression, "You seem almost more excited to have me coming home as I am to leave the hospital." she teased him, knowing that in all likelihood they were tied for who was happier.
Lex sighed looking around the room once again to make sure she had packed all of her things.

He paused his pacing and gave her a lopsided smile. "It's been so quiet at home without you there. I thought I would have enjoyed it more." It actually had been very peaceful without Lex and it put Alek on edge. He needed his sister to break up the silence and keep him out of his head. Plus, he missed her.

"But naturally you missed my sparkling personality." she said with a bright smile. Seeing that she had indeed packed all of her things away she placed her hands on her hips, "Alright, well I'm finished up in here. I want to say goodbye to Christine before I go."

Alek was hesitant. He knew Christine was the closest thing Lex had to a friend, and he held no ill will toward the girl but their half-brother Dorian was constantly hanging around Christine. He had no desire to see Dorian, though if he had to see the bastard again it'd be better for Dorian that it happen in public surrounded by MLE otherwise Alek would murder him for allowing Lex to be so savagely attacked.
Alek rolled his eyes. "He will likely be there."

Lex rolled her eyes, " First of all I think he's back at the office, secondly you don't have to come. Although, it might be nice for Christine if you went. She wanted to thank you in person, and I was supposed to tell you. Oh well, it's up to you." she said with a shrug before spinning on her feet and walking away.

No one made Alek do anything he didn't want to do, except Lex. It was a strangely strong connection made in utero that other siblings simply could only glimpse at. Alek growled but followed after her.

Lex knew Alek would follow her, and as they approached Christine's room the auror posted outside clearly indicated that Dorian indeed was either at the office or doing "official auror business."
Lex flashed her ID, and performed the spell required to enter the room. The aurors were still concerned about the Serial Killer's tendency to favor polyjuice potion. If only they knew that M could walk in anytime he liked without it.
She walked through the door and left it open for Alek.
"Well well, look who's up."

Alek scowled slightly as they approached Auror who stood guard over the heiress. When he heard Dorian was away the edges of his mouth twitched upward. He rolled his eyes as he followed suit and provided his ID to the guard, snatching it back quickly and following his sister into the private room.

"Lex!" Christine exclaimed happily, "Hi" she smiled sitting up. She was still in a bit of pain from her experience, but seeing Lex had been a balm to her wounded soul.
She noticed Alek had followed and her smile grew, "The valiant knight returns." she teased him.

Alek gave a small smile as he looked Christine over. It was striking how different she looked now that she wasn't covered in filth and her superficial injuries had diminished. "You're looking lovely," he said as he stepped further into the room.

"Yeah I clean up pretty well when I'm not covered in dirt." she answered back with a little sass.
Lex busied herself with arranging the flowers Christine had received as her brother put on his charming face. Lex didn't think much of it at the time, or how the kind words might have been suspicious. She figured he was in a good mood because they were going home.
Just then a loud crash sounded outside.
Lex, ever prepared, reached for her wand and became alert. She went to the door to investigate.
There was an irate ill-mannered patient who was in all likelihood high off of one of the medical potions they had given him was causing a ruckus. The nurse looked panicked and security, other than the auror on duty was at the end of the hall.
"Give me a moment." she said going out to lend assistance.
Christine was startled by the noise her eyes growing wide and her breath holding, until Lex's show of exasperation calmed her. She looked out the window and wrapped her arms around her knees. She took a few breaths then laughed at herself almost incredulous, "Look at me, I'm shaking." she said embarassed.

Alek turned at the sound, he too was on guard but in a more animalistic manner than his twin. He didn't reach for his wand, but instead barred his teeth in a silent snarl toward the door. Realizing the crash wasn't a threat his body relaxed.
"You don't have to help everyone..." he said fruitlessly as Lex had already made it out the door. Literally seconds after being released from a multiple week stay at St. Mungo's and she was already jumping right back in to the thick of it.
Alek sighed and turned back to Christine who was visibly upset by the disturbance. He took a few steps toward it. "The fact that you're not hiding under the bed is a good sign," he said lightly in an attempt to make her feel more at ease. The poor girl had had such a harrowing experience at the hands of that madman, and it was all Dorian's fault. He didn't deserve this girl's affection.

Dorian had been distant lately, though Christine still believed things would be okay between them, that was when she wasn't still suffering trauma from Simon's attack.
Christine faced the door, "Lex was nearly killed. I was sure she was dead. And look at her." she waited a moment, "She's not the only one. Last year at the Hogsmeade attack my cousin was nearly killed. Sam all but brushed it off. I can't tell if they're just ridiculously good at coping, or I'm awful at it."

Alek wished Lex would take it easy, but he was honestly so happy that she was alive and well she could basically do whatever she wanted and Alek would hardly say a word. For the time being. "I don't know your cousin, but my sister is as stubborn as a mule. Coping has nothing to do with it."
He looked to the door, but Lex was still busy being a hero. Deciding he might be there a while, Alek pulled up a seat. "You're only a few days out of this," he reminded her. "If you went running off toward loud sounds they'd likely through you in the nut house."

"Also stubborn." she said about Sam, "It runs in the family." she looked at him then, "Something tells me it runs in yours too." she laughed. It was the first laugh she had since being taken, and she seemed startled by that too. She exhaled sharply and went back to resting her chin on her knees. M had taken laughter from her in addition to everything else. But she would get it back.
"I don't know about loud sounds, but I wish I could be out there. I wish I could lead them back to the others."

Yes, stubbornness was a dominant trait and his family was riddled with it. Alek would one day find out how pervasive the trait was in his family, clearly passed on from his father.
Alek raised his brows and gave a lopsided grin. "You're joking, right? Are you not the girl that insisted I take her immediately to the Ministry the second I met you? That's pretty bloody bold for a girl lost in the woods." Her persistence was admirable.

She rewarded his comment with a smile. For a moment, brief though it was, Christine remembered the courage it took to even trust Alek to take her to the ministry. Maybe she wasn't as helpless as she thought. Truly, if she had thought about Lex's attack or Sam's, both girls were alive because she had fought their attackers. But she was so consumed with a sense of failure and weakness in that she couldn't prevent the attacks to begin with, nor could she prevent the harm to her cousin, to Lex or to the girls she had left behind.
"I wanted to thank you for helping me in the woods. I'm not sure I could have gone much further."

"I have no doubts you would have made it there yourself, even if I hadn't shown up." Alek wasn't blowing smoke. The determined glint in Christine's eyes as she repeatedly insisted he take her immediately to the Ministry proved that Christine would have made it there, with or without Alek.
He smiled then, thinking of something very clever. "If you really wanted to thank me, however, I would be honored if you would accompany me to dinner. When you're feeling better, of course."

Her smile grew at his confidence in her, but then disappeared all together when he suggested dinner. She was involved with someone and she didn't want to give Alek the wrong impression. But at the same time this man had saved her life despite what he thought, the very least she could do was have dinner with him.
"You got it." she said with a smile.
The handle on the door turned and soon Lex appeared looking exasperated but energized, "Sorry. He thought the hospital was a playing field, the nurse, myself, and security were all bludgers, and he was the greatest beater of all time."
