Kate was already on her way out the door, she had only hesitated to confirm that Dorian would be alright in the room with a man who had murder in his eyes only moments ago.
She was glad that someone had come for Lex however, she'd have to try and get his contact information to keep him updated should anything ever happen like this again. Though maybe not considering his disposition.

Lex's voice startled Dorian, he was certain he would not hear it again. After the night's chaotic events his frame of mind had become very dour. Her weak voice contrasted with her words, scolding them from the edge of darkness. It was quite possibly the most Lex-like thing that could have happened.
Dorian was thankful that Alek had softened at his sister's rousing. Although Dorian deserved his harsh words and threatening tones, he had not grown fond of Alek in the few minutes they had known each other. This slightly more tender version was appealing. He supposed siblings had that affect on each other. Being an only child, Dorian had no real frame of reference for a sibling connection.
He nodded at Kate, signaling he was fine with the siblings. O'Connor was still on guard outside the room, should he require any assistance. Fetching a doctor was the most pressing matter. Dorian could fend for himself.

Lex moaned. She hurt fighting for her consciousness. She couldn't think coherently, but there was a slight smile on her face as her brother told her not to order him around.
If she were capable of complex thought she would have been worried about Alek. He considered himself her protector, and she knew that he wouldn't handle her being injured well. She had faith in her brother, but she also knew she was the one person in his life whom he genuinely cared about, and without her it'd be that much harder for him.
The doctor soon arrived and went to check on Lex's vitals.

Alek stepped back from Lex's bedside as the doctor came to check on her. Dorian planned to use this as an opportunity to smooth things over with Lex's brother. His spirits were slowly lifting now that Lex was semi-awake, so long as he didn't think of Christine.
Dorian extended his hand, a solemn but professional look on his face. "We haven't officially met. I'm Dorian Humbert."
Alek sneered at Dorian's hand. The only reason he was even standing near this scoundrel was to permit the doctor to do his job. "She wasn't supposed to be working tonight," he said darkly, but kept his voice low. "I suppose that is your serial killer's fault, too?"
Dorian retracted his hand. Clearly this was not the moment for smoothing things over.

Lex felt the doctor probing at her, lifting her eyelids and shining something bright in her eyes. Everything hurt. She wanted to be unconscious again.
"Well, it would seem she's quite the fighter." the doctor said toward the men. "She needs to rest, I'm going to give her more belladonna to help her sleep. The fact that she's conscious now is a good sign, but she won't want to wake up with the pain she's in. But the good news is she'll be alright."
Lex mumbled something quietly.
"What was that dear?"
"Christine...M..."

Upon hearing Christine's name Dorian dropped any pretense of being with pleasant with Alek. He pushed past the doctor, who made an indignant, ruffled noise in Dorian's direction, and bent over Lex's bed. "Christine? Lex, do you know where he's taken her? Did you see his face?"

"You..." she answered, it took the rest of her strength, she felt as though she had died simply giving him the answer, but it was the belladonna kicking in. She couldn't answer anymore, she couldn't think or hear, it was dark, but peaceful.

For a moment Dorian thought she was speaking nonsense. Her words didn't fit with what he was asking. But then the violent wave of understanding washed over him and gripped the railing of her bed so tight that his knuckles shown white. You was Dorian. M had used Dorian's face to steal Christine, the same way he had used Christine's face to attack Dorian in the park. He felt as though he was going to be sick. The last thing she saw before she was taken was Dorian ripping apart Lex and coming for her.
He needed to know more. "What did he say? Lex! Where did he take her?" She was out. Dorian rounded on the doctor. "Wake her up!"
"I can't do that. You'll have to wait until the Belladona wears off."
Dorian was frantic. Locked inside Lex's mind were the clues to finding Christine and it would be several hours before the root wore off. It could be too late by then.

"You don't even know who you're looking for," Alek growled at Dorian's back. He was furious that this man, this stranger would presume to take Alek's place at his sister's side in her hour of need. It was Dorian's fault his sister was in this situation in the first place. And to find out now that they didn't even know what the man looked like... The Ministry was worse off than he had imagined. Alek was right not to trust them.

Dorian rounded on Alek, his desire to fight reignited by Lex's few but meaningful words. He would get Christine back. M would not claim her as he had Penny Young or the others. Dorian would make sure of that. He would find out who M was, find where he hid, and slaughter the bastard.
"What I do know," he thundered at Alek, "is that I will find the man who did this to your sister. I will hunt him down and I will finish him." Dorian snatched the notebook and pen that Kate had given him from the chair and pulled open the door, standing in between the hall and Lex's hospital room. He spoke to Alek and O'Connor simultaneously. "Owl me the instant she is awake. If she says anything, I want it verbatim."

Kate had just returned from owling Grayson that Lex had spoken, and they were standing by for further diagnostics when Dorian exited the room, issued an abrupt order with O'Connor and took off. She made a feeble attempt to get his attention before he left, but he was gone to quickly.
She went back into the room where the Doctor was explaining medical jargon to Alek. When the doctor was finished he left the room.
"She's going to be okay then." the relief was thick in Kate's tone.

The doctor had eased Alek's worries only slightly after a quick check of Lex's vitals. But when the man walked out, Alek was still angry. It didn't help that the Auror woman had returned. He wished for them all to leave his sister be.
"No thanks to your lot," he remarked, still looking at Lex.

She studied Alek from behind for a moment. He seemed to have deep rooted issues against the Ministry, which must have been rough considering his sister's profession.
"For what it's worth, your sister is one hell of an Auror. She's the only person to go against this guy and survive when he wanted her dead."

It was worth exactly two sh*ts to Alek, considering Lex was currently in the urgent care wing of St. Mungo's. If he had known she would be at the safe house tonight, he would have had his wolves on guard. They would have stopped this from happening, had they been given the chance. Had Dorian not cocked everything up so much. The man was a disease that needed to be eradicated.
Alek turned slowly to face Kate. "Your people are ill-equipped for dealing with this man. If my sister is the only one to survive, it seems prudent that perhaps more than one of your elite Aurors should have been on guard!" Alek's pack would be forced to pick up the Ministry's slack by hunting down this killer. No one dares to mess with the Eiriksens.

"You're right." Kate said not arguing. Lex shouldn't have been left alone with Christine, despite how capable she was. The ministry had messed up, but it wasn't Dorian's fault. It was Kate's. Anything that this man got away with was ultimately Kate's fault. It was her case, she was the one responsible for stopping him, and she wasn't any closer to discovering who he was. Lex was their closest hope right now.
"I'll leave you alone." she said with respect.
