Christian WardDiana had sobered since the other night, she questioned herself a million times for involving Christian. The truth was he complicated things. She was sloppy when he was involved. He did things to her mind, and the things he did to her body could steal her soul away. She wasn't the same girl who had loved him before, but whether she loved him or not he still owned her in so many ways. Since agreeing to let him in she allowed herself to be honest with him about most things. He was risking his neck, he deserved the truth. He also surprised her with how resourceful he really was, as well as the ideas he had. They spent a week plotting, getting to know each other, and pleasuring one another in ways Diana was positive weren't entirely bound to the mortal coil. They had also discussed moving their "base of operations". Diana didn't like to stay in one place very long. Strangely they didn't talk about the hit wizard after her. Diana figured he didn't want to think about it. She didn't blame him. Tonight she was truly conceding to the idea of Christian helping her by introducing her to Derek. Not that Christian gave her much of a choice in the matter. To spite him she wore a low cut number.

Diana wasn't the only one who cleaned up nicely. Christian cut quite the figure in a dark grey suit with black accents as he parted the crowd at the nightclub and made his way to where Diana waited. "Diana," he greeted coolly as he approached her. "You look inviting, as ever." He let his gaze travel lazily over the length of her body, taking her in.

Diana shivered. She had seen him in a suit before. She had. But lately their meetings had been clothing optional. Seeing him enter a room, he was brought back to when they were younger.
"You don't offend the eyes." she replied.
"We're early." she informed him then took a sip of her cocktail.

"Good." He gestured for the cocktail waitress who changed course and made her way to their table. Still speaking to Diana, he asked "think we've got time for a quicky in the bathroom? Scotch on the rocks," he said, turning to the waitress as she arrived. When she'd gone, Christian looked back to Diana and gave a charming smile.

Diana sincerely contemplated it. She kept hoping that she'd tire of him physically and wouldn't be distracted by him anymore, but it didn't happen. If anything she was even more addicted to their physical intimacy than ever.
She took another sip of her cocktail.
"Behave." she admonished with a telling look. Unconsciously, or perhaps in a purposeful manner she made clever use of her tongue and the straw from her drink. Her eyes held a different answer to his question.

He smirked at her response and looked out over the sea of people. "When's this contact of yours coming?" The waitress came back with his drink and he nodded at her.

"Soon." she told him. It was difficult to tell, both Diana and Derek had a habit of showing up early to any scheduled meeting. They both liked to "make the room their own" in a sense and arriving early did that. Now the meeting could be set for a specific time, but they'd both arrive at some point before that.
Derek was supposed to meet Diana at the club in twenty or so minutes, which meant that Derek would be there relatively soon.

"And we're certain the bathroom is off the table?" he said with a smirk. Still looking over the crowded room, Christian spots a familiar face. Initially he thinks nothing of it, but the man is moving ever closer to them. Christian looks to Diana for a sign of recognition.

Derek on the other hand wasn't expecting company.
Diana was one of the most intriguing women Derek had ever met, and Derek had met more than enough intriguing women for two lifetimes. She was alluring, dangerous, mysterious, and vulnerable. In short Derek was smitten.
As he approached her he noticed another man nearby. At first Derek dismissed him, it wouldn't be the first time someone had hit on Diana, and Diana was more than capable of handling herself. But as Derek got closer he realized he recognized the man sitting next to her. He was a DE, and he handled sensitive operations from the Dark Lord himself. He was a very dangerous man. Derek had the thought that perhaps Christian was the hitter they were worried about. It certainly added up.
Derek had to play this the right way or things could go very badly for all involved.
He made eye contact with Diana as if signaling her to let him know if it was alright to approach. When she gave him the go ahead, he joined their table.
"You look lovely tonight." he told her as she stood to greet him and kiss his cheek. She thanked him, then turned toward Christian.
"This is Christian Ward." she said unaware that the two men knew each other.

"Derek, good to see you again," Christian said as he stood to greet their apparent guest with a handshake. He looked to Diana and explained, "we've done business on occasion." For the Dark Lord. He knew Diana wasn't a follower, but did she know Burke was?Christian wasn't sure who he had been expecting, but it wasn't Derek. Christian sat again, leaning back in his seat studying the man who had joined them.

Diana showed genuine confusion as Derek replied, "Likewise." and joined their table.
Even Christian's small explanation didn't alleviate the curiosity she now had about the two men in her life.
"Well then it would seem introductions aren't necessary." she said with a shrug. She had discussed this meeting with Christian beforehand and thought it best to keep Christian's identity as Alyx's father a secret for now.
"Christian is aware of the situation. He's an old...friend...I trust him." she bit out the last part.

Christian looked sideways at Diana. Did she trust him? He knew better than to believe that. he was certain Derek knew better as well. "I hear you're the man with the information," he said to Derek, waiting for the proof.

She was starting to. Heaven help her. She prayed that her trust wouldn't be abused, though she had been burned by the man too many times to count.
Diana cleared her thoughts on the matter and faced Derek who was still hesitant in sharing his information with Christian. He gave Diana a look but she told him to continue.
"More bad news I'm afraid dollface. Turns out Copperbottom is the one who made the contract like we thought, but he's gone underground with the rest of them. I'm trying to trace the funds back to a bank account that should give us a clue to the hitter's identity, but they used third party transactions through a dwarven bank. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's going to take a little time to find out who it is. Are you sure you want to stay in town for this?"
Diana listened carefully to what Derek was saying though she felt her stomach quiver a bit. "If Alyx is here I want to be here."
"Then you're probably going to want to move out of the inn, there's not much protection there were he to find you."

If Christian felt any remorse over listening in as Diana and Derek discussed the hit he was contracted to take on Diana's life, he didn't show it. He remained stone-faced, yet interested in the intel. "I've got room to take you, for the time being," he said to Diana, though he was looking at Derek. It'd make the shagging easier, he thought with a smirk.

Derek was a little startled when Christian offered his place of residence as a suitable alternative for Diana. It was with the utmost control that Derek didn't raise an eyebrow at the man's comment.
"I've made arrangements." he said while looking at Christian, " And you are of course welcome to move back into my flat if you need to."
"I'll think it over. Thank you." she said looking between the two men. If she was embarrassed she didn't show it. She turned toward Derek, "Thank you." she said sincerely for the information he brought her.

Move back into his flat... Diana certainly likes to keep her friends close, Christian mused to himself. He had found no reason before to dislike Derek, but having the man looking into the identity of the hit wizard after Diana was reason enough now. Christian was still working out the details of how to best let down Copperbottom. He had been hoping Diana's contact, Derek, would have had more information that would be useful to taking out the board members, effectively relieving Christian of having to decline the contract at all. It appeared Derek was of little use to him, other than adding a new name to his watch list.

Derek usually had more information for her, but she was grateful for any assistance he provided. He didn't help for money or anything other than a personal favor. Diana did take advantage of the fact that he was sweet on her, but not unduly so. She had even contemplated becoming intimate with the man, it wasn't as if he were lacking in any physical way, nor was he deficient mentally or conversationally. She simply preferred to keep their friendship as a friendship. She couldn't afford the emotional attachment, although it made her wonder what the hell she was doing with Christian. At least she could trust Derek.
Though they hadn't known each other long they could still communicate without speaking, she knew Derek wanted to talk to her in private. Diana thought maybe he was holding back some information because of Christian.
"If you'll excuse me." she said getting to her feet, "I need to use the ladies room." she announced though it wasn't necessary.
Derek stood when she did out of courtesy.
Derek indeed wanted to talk to Diana, but he wanted to feel out Christian first.

As Diana excused herself, Christian stood. He watched her walk away as he returned to his seat, then turned his attention to Derek. He looked at the man, then took a drink. Placing the glass back on the table, Christian spoke. "I have to admit, I wasn't expecting to see you here, Burke," he said coolly.
He measured the man before him. Derek was a Death Eater, and an ambitious one at that. He had a reputation, though nothing the likes of Christian's. Still, with Derek snooping around Christian would need to be more on guard.

"To tell you the truth Ward, you're the last person I expected to see sitting here as well. Or maybe not." he said leaning back and eyeing the man in front of him speculatively. Christian had a reputation, a dangerous one. He wasn't sure what Diana was doing with the man, but all of his protective instincts were on full alert.
"How do you know Diana?" he asked casually.

Christian sat with a smug look on his face. He said nothing as Derek made insinuations about Christian's appearance at tonight's meeting. But when he was asked a question directly, Christian responded.
"We have a...history," he said vaguely, although if Derek was half as smart as a lampshade he'd infer Christian's meaning.
