Dorian HumbertLex had worked her rather well formed backside off to get where she was at and everything she had worked for was about to pay off. Sure a security detail on some high roller wasn't the end all be all mission aurors usually lived for, but the ministry's mission didn't matter to her, she had her own mission, and she was very close to reaching the end of it. She hoped that end would be a new beginning, but she still wasn't sure. Alek had enough negative things to say about her seeking Eirik - no his name was Dorian. It was so strange to feel joy at knowing her brother's real name. All the eldest sons were named Eirik dating back centuries to the first pack leader, and whenever their father had mentioned his deceased first son he had called him Eirik. It was a purposeful slight to Alek that he didn't receive his father's name, though he had inherited the pack. In any case this was something Lex had to see through for herself, but she told herself not to get her hopes up. She also told herself that from this moment on until she was absolutely sure she could reveal herself to him, she would have to "forget" that they were siblings and focus on being his partner instead. She rapped her fingers against the door to his office.

Dorian was studying a case file in his office. The woman in the park had been linked to two other murders - they were dealing with a serial killer. Dorian wasn't lead on the case, but he still felt it was his duty to know every bit of detail inside and out. Professionally, he wanted to gain favor, to be considered for a promotion when the time came. Personally, he needed to know everything about the sick son of a banshee that had caused his Christine such distress.
There was a knock on the door. With a swish of his wand, the door swung open gently. Glancing up from the file, he noted that the girl...woman who stood before him was a newer recruit. He had seen her in the training program. Allison, he thought. That didn't seem right. Dorian gave a courteous smile as he stood to greet her. "Good morning."

"Hello." she said attempting to look him over discreetly. She entered the room fully and extended her hand "I'm Aleksandra...Lex for short. I'm partnering you for the Mikaelson detail." she gave a small smile then tucked her hands behind her.

He extended his arm over the desk to shake her hand. "Aleksandra. Pleasure to officially meet you. Please take a seat." Dorian gestured to one of the two wooden chairs placed in front of his desk. He waited until she had sat before moving back into his own chair. "Have you been briefed on the situation?"

"Lex." she interrupted, then smiled, "Sorry, everyone calls me Lex."
She sat after he offered, then nodded when he asked if she had been briefed.
"Witness detail. I'll be filling in when you're needed elsewhere." if she thought it was strange someone of Dorian's experience was stuck "babysitting" she knew better than to comment on it. She assumed the witness was high profile, but she would learn in time.
"Cushy digs, the Avalon."

"Indeed," he said bluntly, agreeing with Lex that the Avalon was in fact 'cushy digs'. "Miss Mikaelson has the penthouse. It's been warded against apparition. The only way in is through the door, which has also been charmed so that any traditional unlocking spells will not work from the outside." He had purposefully enchanted Christine's hotel room so that no one could enter magically but, if there was ever a reason, she could disapparate to safety. He hoped it wouldn't come to that, but he certainly wouldn't allow her to become trapped, should some brute barge in through the front door. "An alarm will also sound if anyone apparates into the hallway outside the penthouse. It's best to use the lift, so as to not disturb anyone."
Dorian was slightly uneasy about an auror who was so green taking on the duty of keeping Christine safe when he wasn't there, although logically he couldn't argue. Witness detail was one of the lower priorities the department was facing. The more skilled and experienced aurors were on other assignments. It seemed to be fate that he had closed a case only the day before Christine had called him, of all people, about the murder in the park, and was free to take on any new cases that would arise. A day later and Dorian would have been unable to convince his superiors that he should be on witness detail for Christine.

She listened as he informed her about the security precautions he had taken. She couldn't tell if he was simply thorough or if the witness was special to him. It seemed as if he had gone above and beyond, and yet he didn't appear to have any outward cues.
"And Ms. Mikaelson's key hasn't been recovered yet? Do we have an approved visitor list? They didn't give me any photos to look over so I wasn't sure."

Dorian's jaw tensed as Lex mentioned the missing hotel key. Nothing had been recovered by the crime scene detectives, and he'd even gone back and searched for it himself. Either the wind had carried it off somewhere, or the murderous lurker that had watched Christine that morning had found it. The first was unlikely, as metal keys are not easily blown around. The second was unsettling, and made Dorian wish he had managed to get Christine to move to the safe house. But she was stubborn and dug her heels into the plush carpet of her hotel suite.
"No, the key has not been found. There is a possibility that the suspect picked it up." He could feel his heart beating more prominently as he admitted this. "Miss Mikaelson said there was someone watching her when she was at the park. We suspect it was the murderer." He clenched his fists briefly, under the pretense of stretching out the muscles in his hands. Really, he wanted to punch something. But instead, he answered the next question.
"This," he gestured to the two of them, "is the approved visitor list." He shuffled the files he had been reading until he came upon the one he wanted. Fingering the pages inside, he found what he had been looking for. He pulled it out two pictures and slid them across the desk to Lex. "This is Leslie Wildling," he said, pointing the picture of a brunette woman. "She is the only approved maid for Miss Mikaelson. And this," he fingered the picture of ginger man, "is Tormund Freemaker. He is the only approved service attendant. They have both been vetted and cleared by the Ministry. There are to be no other hotel staff permitted into Miss Mikaelson's suite, and it is advised that you maintain a visual on both of them while they are in the penthouse." He would be insistent on this. No one would get into Christine's room without his knowledge.

She resisted the urge to 'Aye Aye Captain' and salute him. What hadn't been clear before was slowly sinking into Lex's mind. Lex spent a good deal of her life observing the people around her, particularly her Father and her twin. She had learned to look for cues, she never thought it would come in handy as an Auror.
She took the list he gave her and nodded solemnly. Something told her she'd be curbing her glibness around this man. He was much like their father in that way, though she doubted he had the same dark side.
"No problem. No visitors. Got it."

As their meeting went on, Dorian noted that Lex became less vocal and less enthusiastic. He realized he might be appearing slightly more tightly wound than what would be expected for the situation at hand. He leaned back in his seat, attempting to appear more relaxed. "Any questions before we head to the hotel?"

Lex stared at Dorian hard, she wanted to ask if Dorian was connected to their witness at all, but curbed it. She'd find out soon enough when she went to meet her mark.
"None for now, but I know who to ask if any should come up. I won't let you or Ms. Mikaelson down."

"Right then," he said, in an attempt to maintain what he thought was a breezy, yet professional air about him. "Shall we?" With a sharp jab of his wand, the files on his desk flew through the air and sorted themselves into a filing cabinet that had pulled out its own top drawer. The audible lock could be heard as Dorian held the door open for Lex. He led the way to the Floo Network and the pair traveled to the Avalon hotel.
