This was the second time Sean had come to find his dad, alone. Daniel was with his new partner.... Or no, maybe he was just training the girl? Sean couldn't help but refer to her as his brother's new partner though. There might have been some misplaced resentment there- but Sean would never admit this to himself or anyone else. It was a silly little emotion.
He'd owled earlier, so Eric knew he was on his way, and, ideally, his mum would have something to occupy herself with.
When Sean arrived, he had parchment in hand- notes. Lots of them. Nothing, he felt, that quite told him how to conquer this or completely control it, but things that shone just a little more light on his particular situation.
And he wanted a second brain to go over this with him.

Eric had actually been doing some research on Sean's issue, but Ellen was none the wiser. Eric was always doing research on something for his job, and Ellen never asked about it. She wouldn't have guessed that was he was researching concerned their son and not his work.
He had been reading through some rare texts he had managed to get from his contact in Knockturn Alley, and when he got the owl from Sean, he convinced Ellen to go out and do some shopping for a little while. If she saw Sean, she might begin to worry about him, more than she already did.
Eric was waiting for the sound of Sean's knock and got up as soon as he heard it. "Sean," he said, taking a look at his younger son. "Come on in. You look like you could use some coffee. Or a drink."

Sean shrugged, even managing a small smile. "Coffee's stopped working, actually, but I wouldn't say no to a drink."
He'd become so dependant on the caffeine that it now just made him functional, but barely kept him awake. In an attempt to get the effects back, he decided to stop drinking coffee. If he broke that small addiction, it might prove useful again in the future.
"We've set up a meeting tonight," he added as he stepped inside and the door closed behind him. "We're going to get that little girl back tonight." And then this would all be over, was the subtext of the sentence. Except they both knew it wouldn't be. There would always be more cases, more important things to deal with. "How are you?"

Eric nodded, but he was worried. How could he not be worried? Sean had a lot on his shoulders and he was in danger of being crushed under the weight of it all. Worst of all, there didn't seem to be anything to help him, and Eric's research had so far failed to turn up any leads. It didn't mean he was giving up, though. It just meant he had more work to do.
Still, he managed a light smile when Sean commented that he wouldn't mind a drink. He stood up and walked over to the liquor cabinet in the corner. "Firewhiskey?" he asked, taking out a bottle and two glasses.
He turned back at the mention of the little girl. "I'm glad to hear that, at least. I know I don't have to ask this, but promise me you'll be careful."

"Firewhiskey would be great."
He watched Eric pour the amber liquid into the two glasses, and, thinking it over, he wondered if the following conversation might be the longest the two had ever shared. Sean, even as a young boy, had always been closer to Ellen. While Daniel was a chip off the block, Sean was a mamma's boy, as it were. Growing up, something between the two just hadn't clicked and Sean, being the quiet son, just became more quiet.
"I'll be careful. I'll have an Auror with me, too, and we're pretty certain it's just one wizard we're looking for." He was trying to give more than one word answers, because he was aware how frustrated they made his brother, so he could imagine it would be the same with Eric.
When he father handed him the drink, he nodded his thanks, then went to business. "I've been doing some research on muggle seers. Psychics, they're called. I found some interesting connections."
