Kyla hadn't seen George in awhile. Her job kept her busy for awhile. She was hoping that George would be at the Apothecary shop. He told her that his uncle ran the shop, but he was always there. After all, today was not Tuesday so he should be at the shop. On her way over Kyla thought that she should have sent an owl to make sure she was there but then again that thought did not occur to her until she was two blocks away from the Apothecary shop.
In one hand she had a gift for George. She remembered how he was extremely fascinated with the toy trains they saw in London. A few days ago, she returned to the store to pick up one. She thought he would enjoy trying to put it together. Kyla even wrapped the gift with brightly colored paper she had in her apartment. In her other hand, Kyla brought lunch for George. She thought maybe he would be hungry. In the bag was something she remembered him telling her he liked from the French restaurant.
Walking up to the store, she took a deep breath before opening the door to the shop. Entering the store, she didn't see anyone at first. "George," she called out after closing the door behind her.

It was a busy day at the shop, which was unusual. The little apothecary shop did a decent business, but seldom was it what George considered busy. Sometimes whole hours would pass without a single customer, but that hadn't happened today. Today it seemed that as soon as one customer left, another entered, and George didn't even have time to tend to his herbs in the greenhouse.
The good thing, however, was that it finally seemed to be slowing down a little and George's uncle told him that, when the current customer left, he could go take a long lunch. He needed to take the break so he could recharge for the afternoon.
At the moment, George was helping the woman find the ingredients for an anti-aging potion she had found in the back of Witch Weekly. It wasn't going to work, but George didn't have the heart to tell her that.
"Let's see... Essence of murtlap, powdered mandrake root, rose petal extract.... are you planning to drink this potion?" he asked. "I'd recommend using it on your skin instead..." It still wouldn't work, but would make her skin softer at least.
He was just getting the woman sorted out and was ready to ring up her items when he heard the door open and a voice called out his name.
"I'm back by the register," he called. The rows of shelves and cabinets could be rather labyrinthine, so hopefully she would be able to find him. "I can be with you in a minute.
He didn't recognize the woman's voice at first, and he was only thinking of the fact that he probably wouldn't be able to go to lunch after all. If he had known that it was Kyla and not another customer, he would have been happier and more upbeat.

Looking in the shop, Kyla was amazed at all of the items in the store. She had been in the store several times before but every time it was interesting. Looking through the shelves Kyla raised her eyebrows. Some of the ingredients she had never heard of. Of course she wasn't a potions master or anything like that. During school, she was probably in the middle when it came to potions.
Making her way through the shelves, she found her way through to the register. Poor George looked like he was tired. Maybe he could take a break. She hadn't even thought of the fact that he might have already taken a break and eaten until just that moment. Kyla crossed her fingers he hadn't taken a break yet. She looked at the woman that was at the register and waited patiently until she was gone.
"Good afternoon George," she said brightly with a smile after the lady was gone.

George was still helping the woman find the last of her supplies when Kyla approached the register. He smiled at the sight of her and gave a little nod, but that was all he could do until the woman had everything sorted. Luckily, he was able to help her find everything that she needed, and he soon sent her on her way. Once the woman was on her way out the door, George turned to Kyla.
"Good afternoon to you," he said cheerfully. "I'm glad you stopped by."
Truthfully, George was rather surprised that she was here. It was a pleasant surprise, because he had not really expected that he would even see her again. But she was here, and he felt a bit light-headed at he thought.
"What brings you here today?"

"I thought I'd come by to see you if you weren't busy. I know, I probably should have owled you to make sure that it was okay that I stopped by today but I didn't think about that until I was almost to the shop door." Kyla gave a smile. For a moment, Kyla felt almost shy. She had never just popped in somewhere unannounced. The shy feeling went away just as quickly as it came.
"You haven't taken a lunch break yet, have you? I hope not because I brought you something. Well, even if you have had a lunch break, you can keep it for later. After all, even heating it up for leftovers the food is still amazing." Kyla realized that she was babbling for a moment. She did that sometimes when too many thoughts were bouncing around in her head. It seemed as if she had an extreme short attention span sometimes.
"I also brought you a gift! I even wrapped it myself," she said excitedly.

George's face flooded with warmth. He wouldn't have been surprised if she had actually just come here to buy something, and not to see him at all. But she had come to see him, and he couldn't help feeling warm inside. "Don't even worry about it," he assured her. "You don't need to call or owl me or anything before you come... I'm usually just here working. And you came at a good time. I was actually just about to break for lunch."
It was enough of an honor to George that she had stopped by at all, but she had not only brought herself but lunch AND a gift... it was almost too much! He decided right then and there that he would have to do something just as lovely for her--maybe send her flowers at work or something like that.
"A gift?" he said, smiling as the curiosity burned inside him. He couldn't even think of turning her gift down, not when she looked so excited about it. "I'm not sure what to say... You are too kind!"
He took a quick look around the shop to make sure there weren't any stray customers walking around, and then he led her to the door. "There's a lovely little park around the corner, and I sometimes like to have my lunch there. Let me close up the shop and we can go over and find a place to sit and you can show me what you brought?"

If at all possible, Kyla's smile widened even more. She knew that there was no way that George would turn down a gift from her because his curiosity would not let him. "Escaping before any other customers come in," she teased. "I like it!" Kyla let out a small laugh.
She wasn't exactly sure as to why she really bought the gift for George other than the fact that she saw the way he looked at it before. Kyla knew this whole thing was somewhat of a spur of the moment thing and she was glad that the timing worked out well. "The park sounds amazing." She followed him to the door and walked out before he did so he could close the door.
"And for once, I think we have that strange bright yellow ball up in the sky that if I remember correctly is called the sun." Kyla grinned. "It's been a little too cloudy the past couple of days."

George laughed as she teased him about slipping out of the shop before any more customers came in. He would have done the same thing even if she hadn't been here, but it was sort of funny that she caught him doing it. Besides, the thought of spending time with her made it even more worth it.
It was strange, they had only met the one time before. But he hadn't been able to get her out of his mind since then. Maybe it was the trip to London and the things he had seen there, but if he was honest with himself, it was more than that. Whenever he thought about the trip to London, he found himself thinking of her smile, her laugh, the sparkle in her eyes. How strange that was!
He hadn't expected to see her again, but it seemed that he had somehow made just as much of an impression on her as she had on him. He had no idea what any of it meant, but he decided not to question it.
"Ah, yes, the sun," he replied with a grin. "We don't see much of it around here, do we? It's almost as bad as London. You've got to enjoy the nice days while you can."
The park wasn't far, and soon they were approaching one of the wooden benches next to a large oak tree that was already turning orange for the fall.
As they sat down, George turned to her excitedly. "So, what did you bring me?"

"You are just like a child at Christmas time," Kyla teased. George did leave an impression on her, but she didn't know how to describe it. His curiosity when she took him into London was interesting. She liked to watch him discover the muggle world. The twinkle in his eye when making some sort of discovery, he half smile as he was amazed by the way things worked, they all remained in Kyla's mind.
George was different than most people. He was curious, always eager to learn something. He was so willing to do things and try to figure out what was occurring. Kyla liked watching. It was something she did not get to see very often. Normally a job as an auror could harden a person, but seeing people like George light up at different things seemed to keep her energetic and not harden toward the world.
Kyla took a seat next to George and handed him the brightly wrapped gift. "I hope you like it," she said with a smile. It was the exact train that he saw in the muggle toy store. This time he had to put it together himself. Kyla figured he would like a challenge. "I'll let you open that first, then we can eat lunch!"

George felt a sort of giddy thrill run through him as he took the package from her. He truly did feel like a kid at Christmas. It had been a very long time since he’d actually felt this excited about anything, and he wasn’t sure it was the anticipation of what could be inside the bright wrapping paper or the mere fact that she was giving him something. He wasn’t even sure he cared what it was.
But he tore into the wrapping paper enthusiastically and let out a gasp when he recognized the picture of the train on the box. “It’s the train from the store!” he said excitedly, removing the rest of the paper and placing it next to him.
He turned the box over and looked at the pictures of the electric train. It came with four cars, including the locomotive, but apparently there were others that you could buy to add to it. The tracks were also included and could be added to as well. “It’s perfect! I love it!” he cried, throwing his arms around her and hugging her, forgetting himself for a moment in his excitement.

Observing his excitement caused Kyla to feel the same way. She was glad that he liked her gift. Of course there was hardly any doubt that he wouldn't like it. Moments like these were what Kyla liked the most. Despite what was going on in the world around them, there could also be cheerful moments. Sort of like a light in the darkness.
As soon as George threw his arms around her to hug her, Kyla hugged him in return. She wasn't really expecting him to hug her, but Kyla didn't push him away. "I'm glad you like it," she said happily. It had been a long time since Kyla had been hugged by someone other than her brother. A very light pink blush appeared on her cheeks.
"I also have the batteries for the train too. I thought you would like the challenge of putting it together."
