It occurs to me, now that I am more familiar with the new login system, that my old “”walk-through” is a bit more complicated than it needs to be. So here’s another attempt at it. You may want to consult this when you first log in.
First of all, pick your “main” character account, because that is the name you will be greeted with when you visit your login screen. I accidentally made Arthur Weasley my “main” account. Ooops. Oh well.
So, pick an account to sign in for the first time. Once you’ve entered your username and password, it will ask you to upgrade your account. Do it. I’m not even sure you have an option to say no, but you want to upgrade your account. Basically, you will be creating a new “global” account which will use your e-mail address as a username. I don’t think it has to be the one you originally used to register your account, so make sure it is an active one, but maybe not your main e-mail address, because you’ll be getting confirmations sent to that address.
Once you’ve created your global account, I think you have to get a confirmation key which will be sent to your e-mail. You’ll need that to log in. Sorry. After that, though, the e-mails you’ll get won’t be crucial.
Once you’re logged in under your main account, you can begin linking accounts. Look at the little tiny floating box in the bottom right corner of your screen. It will follow you as you scroll down. It looks like this:
Here’s a closeup:
See the little image of two people? Click that. It will take you to a screen that looks like this:
Click on “Link another forum account.”
Enter another username and the password for that account. You’ll get this screen:
(Note: If your global password is different from your regular one, you’ll get this screen:
Remember that your global password will now be your password for that account,}
Click Continue and you’re signed in.
Repeat as necessary.
Seriously, that is it. And the best part? Once all of your accounts are linked, you never need to log out and in ever again. All of your characters are just two clicks away. All you have to do in the future is click that first button with the people on it and it will take you to this screen:
Then click on the mini-profile of the character you want to sign in as, and you’re in.
Also, once your accounts are linked, you’ll have access to all of your characters on any device you use to access the board: desktop, laptop, tablet, smartphone, iPod, etc. If you can log in to your global account, you can access any of your characters and post from anywhere!
