Graduation had happened in a haze. Brenda had been so busy tormenting Daphne, making bets with Rabastan, and trying to cross the last seventh year boys off her list, that she somehow managed to avoid Cameron for the rest of the year. Camp had been harder, but she'd managed. She wasn't sure if Cameron still thought they were going out, but since he was working in Hogsmeade and so was she. they were bound to run into each other eventually. It was time to cut him loose.
So she sent an owl to him, asking him to meet her at the Hog's Head, which was her new place of employment. This way they'd be on her turf, which gave her a bit of an advantage.
As always, she was dressed in a shockingly short, low-cut dress. This one was red and left very little to the imagination. Might as well give him a little treat to remember her by, she reasoned...

Cameron had been surprised to get Brenda's owl. He sort of assumed they'd cut ties, though neither of them officially said as much. Even when they started dating, he'd known it wasn't going to go far. But Brenda had been fun, and was willing to do a lot more than the other girls, and Cameron was only a little ashamed to admit he'd wanted that.
Now that he was working and graduated, his attention shifted. They spoke less, even towards the end of the school year, until they just didn't speak at all.
He had a bad feeling, as he opened the door to the Hogs Head, that Brenda was going to try to rekindle some kind of flame. He didn't want that.
She was easy to spot in that red number. He felt starkly opposite of her in muggle jeans and a black t-shirt, simple and ready to start his shift at Stu's later, after this. He was also reminded that he quite liked having that on his arm... last year. Now his mind strayed and he wondered if he didn't want someone a bit more conservative.
When he caught her attention (after shamelessly taking in the sight of her), he flashed her a smile and came up to the bar, sliding onto one of the barstools. "Somehow, Brenda, this suits you."

Despite everything, Brenda was rather glad to see him. He looked good, as he always did. It was easy to see why she had stayed with him for as long as she had. He was cute, and confident and sexy, with just a hint of vulnerability. Maybe she did sort of miss him in a way.
But that didn't change things. They were living two different lives now, and she was pretty sure that he had no more room for her in his than she did for him in hers. Maybe he'd finally decided to go for the prissy brunette that he could never quite seem to take his eyes off of. And if he hadn't done it yet... maybe he just needed to know that he was free to do so.
Not that Brenda really cared about all of that. And really, she probably didn't need to call this little meeting to tell him they were over. Most likely, he already knew. But they were both living and working in Hogsmeade, so they were bound to run into each other. This way, at least the awkwardness would hopefully be out of the way faster.
"Hey, Cam," she said with a grin. "You look good. How've you been?"

"I'm doing really well," Cameron told her, an easy, familiar smile on his lips. He wasn't naive, he got it. He knew the lifestyle Brenda was after, and very likely to live when she looked like she did right now. But that did not, in any way, meant he regretted their time together. He still quite liked her.
"I'm working at Stu's, for now, just until I can get something going with... uh... music. Would you believe that?" He had to pause and realize that Brenda probably didn't know he played any music at all. He forgot, sometimes, that he tried to keep that side of his life quiet.
"How are you? You look.... distractingly good, but you knew that."

Of course Brenda knew she looked good. She also knew she wouldn't look like this forever, and she meant to make the most of her youth and beauty while it lasted. She didn't know where it would take her, but she just knew that whatever she ended up doing, it damn sure wouldn't be boring.
Like Cameron, she had taken a bartending job, but she fully expected to be a temporary stop on the way to something better. She hoped so, anyway, because she wasn't all that sure she could stand it for very long. It just sounded so deadly dull to be hanging around all that alcohol all day and not drink any. Besides, the Hog's Head smelled like goats.
Now, this was a wrinkle she hadn't expected. Cameron was into music? If he had only told her that last year, she might not have spent the last few months ignoring him. Musicians were hot. Especially if they played guitar or drums. And if he was actually any good, maybe there was a chance for him to go somewhere with it… which meant that if she stuck with him, maybe she could go somewhere, too.
"Music? Like what kind of music? You never told me you were into music. That's hot... Unless it's like, the trumpet or something."
