There were clouds in the sky and a sprinkle of rain in the air. Maddison had planned on spending the day outside but the weather decided to change her mind. It had been bright and sunny for the past three days but once Maddison got caught up with her school work the weather decided to take a turn for the worse. "Just my luck!" Maddison thought to herself as she stared out the window. "Now what am I going to do." She thought as she began to ponder her options. There really wasn't much to do she could go to the library but she spent 98% of her time there already. She could always roam the corridors, she Maddison thought that she would get bored rather quickly. Then it hit her, "I could go to the Trophy Room and look around." One of her fellow students had mentioned it too her the other day and she thought why not have a look.
Maddison made her way to the Trophy Room. There was no one else in there which seemed a bit odd since the weather wasn't the greatest Maddison thought that more students would be wandering the castle. Maddison turned to the trophy's and started to read off the names and what the awards were for. She didn't recognize any of the names but that didn't mean any thing Maddison was muggleborn which meant she didn't know any other wizard families.
Maddison had just gotten through one shelf of trophies when...

The door opened to reveal Remus Lupin, his arms filled with cleaning supplies. It wasn't often that Remus had a detention instead of James or Sirius, but today was one of those rare occasions. He actually hadn't even done anything to deserve it this time, but Professor Slughorn had threatened to write to Sirius's parents the next time Sirius and James tampered with the Professor's chair. And of course Sirius simply couldn't stop him self from tampering with the chair, knowing how angry it always made Slughorn.
So to protect his friend, Remus had nobly taken the blame for it, and his punishment was to clean the trophies in the trophy room.
What he was not expecting was to see a girl standing there, admiring all of the trophies.
"Oh, hello," he said, smiling shyly. "Don't mind me... I've got to polish the trophies, but you don't have to leave or anything."

Maddison jumped a little when she heard the door open. She turned and saw a boy with his arms full of what looked like cleaning supplies. He said that he had to clean the trophies and that she didn't have to leave. Maddison smiled at him, she normally gets a little nervous when she first meets someone. She just kind of stood there for a minute or two just staring at him. Maddison realized that she was probably creeping the boy out. So she dropped her gaze and tried to think of something to say. "Um... So why do you have to clean the trophies?" Maddison asked her voice was barely audible.
Maddison knew that students normally had to do cleaning or write lines when they did something bad. It was the schools form of punishment. Maddison hadn't gotten in trouble yet so she didn't know from experience but others in her class had. But it wasn't like Maddison was a goody goody or anything it was just that she was too new and too nervous to actually do anything wrong.
She had asked her feet the question so she wasn't really sure if the boy had heard her or not but she didn't want to ask again in case he had heard. Maddison thought she might sound annoying if she asked again. So instead she lifted her head and met his gaze and gave a slight smile. Maddison fidgeted her feet and waited for a reply.

Remus blushed slightly. It was kind of stupid, really.... covering for a mate. Sirius had enchanted Slughorn's chair, and it really was only right that he suffer the punishment. But Mrs. Black was crazy, and if Slughorn really intended to carry out his threats of owling her the next time Sirius tampered with the chair... well, no one really knew what she would do. Remus couldn't just let his friend face his mother's wrath.
"I have detention," he admitted. "I didn't actually do anything wrong, though.... I was covering for my friend. Slughorn would have reported him to his mother... and she's mental. I never get in trouble, so it wasn't such a big deal for me."

Maddison noticed the boy blush she wasn't sure if he was embarrassed that he was in trouble or if it was why he was in trouble that made him blush. She noticed that at this school a lot of students were proud when they got in trouble. Not too many were embarrassed by it. That could be because many students actually wanted to be known as the rebel.
She wasn't too sure that the boy was actually just taking the blame for his friend. It wasn't because she didn't trust anyone it was just that she didn't know the boy so she didn't really know if he was the type of person who would do something so selfless. In Maddison's life she had come to realize that most people are the selfish type not the selfless. So the fact that the boy might actually be the selfless type peeked Maddisons interest.
Maddison smiled at the boy once again and said "So what did your friend do to get you in trouble?" She then noticed that they hadn't introduced themselves so she thought she would take the first step. "I'm Maddison by the way."

Remus gave a little laugh. He could detect a little suspicion in the girl's eyes, and he couldn't really blame her. If someone told him that they were in detention for someone else's offense, he probably wouldn't believe it, either. Yet here he was, taking the fall for Sirius because his friend simply couldn't stop messing with Professor Slughorn.
"It's Professor Slughorn's chair," he explained. "My friend, Sirius... he's always messing about with the chair. Once he transfigured it into toothpicks, and it fell apart when Slughorn sat on it. Another time, he charmed it to tip downwards whenever Slughorn sat on it, and he'd slide right off it and onto the floor. Today he enchanted it to make it move away whenever Slughorn tried to sit on it. He was chasing it all over the classroom...."
He chuckled slightly. Yes, it was mean, but it was still kind of funny to watch old Slughorn chasing the chair and trying to hold it down while he sat on it. Because of Sirius's prank, their test, which had been scheduled for the day, had been delayed until the next class... which was good, because it gave Remus more time to study. So, really, taking the detention for Sirius was kind of a payback for that.

Maddison let out a giggle as the boy told her what "Sirius" did to Professor Slughorn. The things that he did were pretty genius. Not that Maddison would ever actually do something like that to a professor. She is just way too chicken when it came to the professors. Now students on the other hand she might try it, but only might.
As she thought about the name Sirius Maddison realized that she had heard that name on many occasions as she was entering classes. Usually it was being said by the professor, and when most of them said it they were usually cleaning a mess or fixing a prank or jinx. Now that Maddison thought about it maybe this boy actually did cover for his friend Sirius.
Maddison smiled at the boy and said. "So I know your friends name now what's yours?" She made eye contact and continued "Unless you just want me to get your attention by saying 'Hey You'" Maddison said with a huge grin. She realized that the boy probably didn't hear her when she introduced herself because she did kind of say it in a rush. "And you can call me Maddison."

Remus could still remember how he had felt when he was as young as this girl was. He was practically afraid of his own shadow, and if not for Sirius and James giving him courage, he didn't know where he'd be now. Actually, he had a pretty good idea... he'd be in the library studying and not doing detention for Sirius. Not that he was complaining. He had volunteered for this, after all. And he didn't mind a little cleaning.
"Nice to meet you, Maddison," he said, setting the bucket down on the floor before extending his hand for her to shake. "I'm Remus."
He took a moment to look around the trophy room and frowned. Now that he was faced with the prospect of cleaning every one of these trophies, the room seemed ridiculously large. He was going to use up the extra studying time he'd gained from Sirius's prank on this detention.
"So what were you doing in here? Find anything interesting?"

"Nice to meet you Remus." Maddison said with a smile as she shook Remus's hand. Maddison watched as he sat down the bucket. She realized that he hadn't even started cleaning the trophies he would probably be here forever. The boy asked it she found anything interesting. "Um not really I don't recognize any of the names." Maddison said. She disinterested mention that she was muggle born.
Maddison noticed that many people didn't want anything to do with you if they found out that you were not from a wizard family. She didn't really understand why, she was able to do the same things as her fellow students when it came to magic. So she didn't know what was so different about her. But she tried not to worry about it.
"So do you want some help with these trophies? I don't really have anything better to do." Maddison said with a smile. She really don't mind helping she actually thought it might be fun to hang out with Remus. Better then sitting alone in her common room.

Remus shrugged as he looked around the room. He didn't know any of the names, either. James and Sirius had a few family members who had been honored with trophies, but not Remus. He was a half-blood, in more ways than one. Besides being a werewolf, which was information that he surely couldn't share with this girl, he was also half-muggleborn. His father was a pureblood, but his mother, who had died several years ago, was a muggleborn.
"That big one over there," he said, pointing, "was for Sirius's great-great grandfather. He had several, actually. And my friend James says his great-uncle has a trophy here, too, but I haven't seen it."
He took another look around, trying to decide where best to start. Maybe if he started at the farthest corner, he could work his way out. "Thanks. I'm not sure I'm supposed to let you help me, but you can stay and talk if you want. It would be nice to have a little company."
