Leyla loved camp. It was the first time she'd been and she was having a blast. She loved being outdoors most of the time and loved all the friends she was making. She felt bad because she knew her older brother, who had come just because she wanted to go, wasn't exactly enjoying himself. She wasn't surprised. He wasn't exactly the social type. Oh well, she tried not to let him spoil her summer.
Currently she was sitting on a rock working on something called a dream catcher. She knew it was some muggle item that was supposed to keep away the nightmares. She thought it was kind of weird but she was having fun. She mashed her lips in a hard line as she concentrated on pulling the strings right. A few of them even had beads on them to add some decoration. She knew before she even started making it that she was going to give it to Toby. She didn't know if they really worked but he could definitely use it more than she could.

Sam liked to wander it was simply her way, or what she found to be her way. She had too much on her mind and the truth was every now and then she needed to get away from people. She wasn't expecting to run into the pretty Ravenclaw which pretty much summed up everything she knew about the girl.
"A dream catcher...I haven't seen one of those in a while."

((I feel so silly, I posted this not only in the wrong thread, but the wrong section! I'm not even sure how I managed that one))
Leyla looked up at the sound of someone's voice. She was surprised to see Samantha Montgomery standing before her. To her, she seemed like a bit of a celebrity. She'd never talked to the Slytherin girl but, of course, she knew her. She was one of the House Champions, everyone knew her. But instead of being shy around the Slytherin celebrity, she plastered on a big smile.
"I know, aren't they great?" She asked, holding up her dream catcher to look at her progress. "Muggles do some really facinating things don't they?" She bit her lip as she thought about what she said. She hoped she didn't offend the girl. Most Slytherins were against anything muggle. She hoped Samantha wasn't one of them.

Leyla's enthusiasm was infectous and Sam's own grin widened. The poor girl wouldn't have lasted long against the world with those big trusting eyes, and what Sam could only call a "sweet spirit". Thank goodness the girl had Toby for a big brother, he was protective enough that most wouldn't dare do anything to hurt his precious baby sister.
"Actually I've heard that the first dream catcher was charmed by a wizard and given to a great indian chief who's mind had gone mad after losing his family in a war. The chief had ordered a great sacrifice to be made to appease their gods believing them angry with him and the tribe. A wizard exploring the area grew fond of the tribe and their chief, he charmed a child's decoration and hung it over the chief as he slept, giving the great chief dreams of peace, and there was no sacrifice."
Sam didn't mind muggle things at all, in fact she used some things herself.
"My father told me that story before he hung a dream catcher over my bed when I was a little girl."

Leyla was pleased when Samantha's attitude didn't turn sour at the mention of muggles. In fact, she even had a story that caught Leyla's attention. She hung on every word and looked back at her dream catcher, wondering if she could learn the spell if it were real. She would hang it above Toby's bed and maybe he wouldn't be so sad all the time. Maybe he'd even stop moping about their father.
"Wow, I'd never heard that before. I wonder if there really is such a spell. It would be handy." She said, smiling up at Samantha. She seemed nicer than most Slytherins and that was a relief.
"How are you liking camp?" She asked as she continued with her dream catcher. She was happy to have the company while she worked.

Most people who met Sam would have been confused as to why she was placed into Slytherin, she positively oozed charm and good will, but there was another side of her that clearly and firmly kept her in the house known for it's cunning and sly tactics.
"There is, I could teach it to you if you'd like." her father had taught it to her to keep her dreams peaceful, it didn't always work but more often than not it soothed her all the same.
"Different." she answered about camp, "Before during the summer months I would be attending social events and planning parties...Camp is so serene I find myself at a loss for activity."

"Really? Oh that would be great! Are you sure you wouldn't mind?" Leyla asked, getting eager. She really wanted to help Toby. And if this little spell made him a little happier and caused him to go after the blonde Slytherin, well that would be a nice plus. Of course, she'd never tell him this.
"Yeah, it's definitely different. If I weren't here I'd be stuck at home all summer with no company but my books." She didn't really count her mother or Toby because neither were very social. Toby hated being home so much that he didn't talk half the time. Their mother pretty much kept to herself.

"Sure." she offered. She didn't know why she was offering to help the Ravenclaw, it wasn't that she wouldn't help her because she was a ravenclaw, but it was just strange for Samantha to be doing something purely for the satisfaction of helping someone else out. Her mother would turn over in her grave...well if the woman were actually dead.
"Doesn't sound too bad." she smiled, books were an escape, one that Sam was careful to indulge in just a little bit.
"What do you like about camp most?"

"Yeah, it's not the worst way to spend the summer. But so far I prefer camp very much." Leyla said with a grin. And it was true. Leyla loved the outdoors and wished it didn't have to end. She wasn't looking forward to the next year simply because Toby wouldn't be returning. She didn't like to think about that though.
"I'm not sure. I really like all the activities we've been doing. I know a lot of people think arts and crafts are silly but I think they're fun." She said with a shrug. She'd made some cute things at camp and enjoyed every minute of it. "What about you?"

"I'm not really sure" she wasn't not enjoying herself, it was just that her mind was elsewhere. "For the most part I feel like I'm in a daze, everything is so different."
It was difficult for someone like Sam to get into the swing of things at Camp, mostly because Camp was all about having fun and creating bonds and friendships, two things that Sam had utterly no experience in.
"It's nice having my brother here though, you too I'd imagine."

"Have you done any of the activities?" Leyla asked curiously. She knew a lot of the students blew them off and just used this time to socialize with friends without classes. She was actually a little surprised that they weren't stricter about it all.
"Yeah, I agree. It's great having Toby here. I feel bad though. He doesn't seem to be enjoying himself too much." She said with a frown. "Who's your brother?" She realized she didn't know and was instantly curious.

"I'm not very talented with the projects they assign us." she was positively dreading the talent show, it was like another beauty pageant which for Sam was a big not interested. As for the other projects, she didn't feel as if she were being prompted to learn anything new, it was simply again, for fun, Sam didn't know how to handle that really.
"Oh..." she smiled, "I thought everyone knew at this point." she laughed since it had been a bit of a scandal the year before, "The Numerology professor is my brother." she shook her head, "I'm sorry, I laugh because there were some bad rumors that passed around because I would spend free time in his class room and since we have different last names people didn't know we were related." she gave Leyla a look, "You can figure the rest out as far as gossip goes."
