Kathryn didn't much care for the quaint offices of the Daily Prophet and she turned her nose up at the mess of papers flying everywhere, not to mention the noise and over all atmosphere of calamity, if it weren't for the fact that one of her best friends worked there she wouldn't be caught dead in the din.
She sat perched on Evian's desk with a cup of water in her hand that she sipped from while waiting for her friend.

Evian was multitasking, as usual. She had been trying to impress her boss after her lack of Death Eater stories and was trying to work on multiple stories at once. She ended up walking around the office with a piece of parchment and quill floating behind her as she talked to herself and carried roll after roll of research. She really could use a break but she never considered one as she threw herself into her work. If it weren't for friends like Kathryn, she would never leave the office.
She approached her desk and didn't even notice her best friend sitting on it until she was standing in front of her. "Oh! Hey Kathryn! What are you doing here?" She asked, pleasantly surprised.

Kathryn held up a bag with the "Le Repas Cher" label on it, "I figured you were drowning yourself in work as usual and decided to rescue you from yourself." she grinned knowing her friend all too well.
"Come on, the office will run without you for a half an hour. Kiara's setting up a place outside for us to eat."
Kathryn adored her friends, without them she didn't know what she would do. All too often work threatened to consume her. Daily she sold little pieces of her soul and became harder and harder against rival companies, it was as if she was losing herself, but she never would truly lose herself because of Evian and Kiara, they were her saving grace, with them she could be her caring normal self.

Evian bit her lip as she debated. She had a lot of work to do but the thought of lunch with her two best friends was far too tempting. After another moment of deliberation, she agreed and dropped her things off at her desk. She unspelled the quill and parchment that was writing a story for her and linked her arm with Kathryn.
"Come on. Let's hurry and get out of here before I change my mind." She teased as they walked.
"And by the way, Miss. Hypocrite, I'm not the only one that spends too much time in the office." She gave her friend a knowing look. "How's that going anyways?"

Kiara had felt that the open doors would do Evian wonders. Too often the girl was locked inside working on some story, Kiara's aunt would say that it was hoydenish behavior, in fact Kiara's aunt wasn't too fond of Kathryn or Evian, both girls having taken their own place in the world rather than live behind a man and in his shadow, cooking his meals and breeding his children.
It was better if Kiara didn't think about such things since they only made her upset. She had to believe she was meant for more than that.
Sighing she continued her task of setting up a nice picnic. Only Kiara would take a simple lunch out and turn it into a social affair of the highest standards.
There was a blanket spread and charmed to stay in place as well as keeping any other bugs or critters away from the food. Pillows for each of the girls, plates, napkins, the works all laid out for a lavish affair even if it was just the three of them.

Kathryn shrugged taking her friend's arm, "Yeah yeah yeah, pot calling the kettle black, but at least where I work I'm the boss and can yell at people if I get frustrated." she said with a laugh. She did yell at people at that, not actually in a tone that would raise her voice, but with a deadly undercurrant that made her employees snap to attention, still she was always first in the office and the last one to leave, even then she took her work home with her as well.
"Oh well, let's just see what Kiara's done, probably overdone at this point since we left her alone so long."
Between the three of them Kiara was the one to do the most mothering, she was so efficient Kathryn had tried hiring her as a personal assistant but Kiara refused to be paid for something she enjoyed doing, and she enjoyed making her friend's lives easier.

"Oh, don't remind me. You know how much I envy you for that." Evian said with a laugh. What she wouldn't do to have the authority to yell at some of her coworkers. Some of them were just so lazy with their work and spent most of their time socializing. She worked her ass off every day and didn't get enough recognition for it.
"I'll be surprised if she hasn't conjured a full table with multiple forks and all." Evian teased as they walked outside. They were greeted with an elaborately set picinic but no table. That didn't mean it didn't look any less classy. Evian grinned at her friend as they approached.
"Pillows and all? Is there anything you do that you don't go all out on?" She already knew the answer to that. She sat down with a smile at Kiara. "Thanks for all this. I really needed some fresh air."

Kathryn liked teasing her friend, it felt right, it felt normal and brought her back from the drugery of her everyday life. Not that every aspect of her life was terrible, she actually found her work quite thrilling, and the research she was doing was for a good cause. When she wasn't working or spending time with her family and friends, she devoted much of her time toward charities and lending helping hands, it made her feel useful.
When she came upon Kiara's set up she shook her head and laughed lightly, "Can I please hire you?"

As prim as can be with her back straight and her hands folded in her lap she lifted her chin and replied, "A table would have defeated the purpose of a casual picnic." she knew that the set up was anything but casual, but she still hadn't gone as far as she could have.
"And no you may not." she replied to Kathryn, "Now sit down both of you and let's eat shall we?" she grinned at the two of them like an unrepentent child. They all had their skills, this just happened to be hers. In truth she was envious of her independent friends.

Evian sat down with a grin and crossed her legs under her, being mindful of the skirt she was wearing that day. She looked at everything Kiara set out and chuckled. "Sweetheart, you never cease to amaze me. I love what you've done." She complimented, althought Kiara would surely know that it looked great.
"So, how have you ladies been? I feel like it's been forever since we did anything." That was an exageration. She'd had them over just last week. But that seemed far too long ago with how hectic her schedule had been.

Kathryn agreed, "Yes dear...you really outdid yourself." shaking her head she sat along with her friends and folded her legs underneath her, after she did so a canopy appeared and enclosed them behind a sheer white tent to give them a bit of privacy.
Kathryn sighed, it was true with her schedule as well they didn't spend as much time as they used to together, but they alternated weeks hosting a "wine down wednesday" which had been instramental in preserving their friendship over the years. To date unless they were out of the country and even then, they hadn't missed more than a handful of those very special events.
"I know a whole week." she teased."Not much...same old at the office."

Kiara took her praise well but shook her head and waved off anything else they might have said, she knew she was appreciated that was enough for her.
"Brett Dallas Pierce." she said stabbing a fork into her plate unknowingly. Kathryn and Evian were the only two people in the world who would know what that name meant to her and so she didn't feel too badly letting it slip. In fact she had been dying to get this off of her chest ever since her meeting with him the other day. "He's...He's in London. He's been here for nearly two years...isn't that peculiar?"
Looking back she could clearly see that when she was younger she had a crush on the young man but she had changed and now he was back in her life, it wasn't fair.

Evian began eating and nodded along with Kathryn's response. The two of them were always spending so much time in the office. If it weren't for their weekly get togethers, she would have lost her mind a long time ago. Thankfully she had these two to keep her sane. She owed them so much.
She had just put a bite in her mouth as Kiara spoke up and nearly choked on it. She looked up at her friend, wide eyed. "Brett Pierce? As in the Brett Pierce? The one from Texas?" She asked, glancing at Kathryn to see if she was as shocked as herself.
"What's he doing here?"

Kathryn's expression mirrored Evian's one of astonishment. "Oh Hon..." it wasn't often that Kathryn was at a loss of words but that one had stumped her. They all knew each other's histories very well as well as the heartaches. Kiara would never admit that she had a crush on the dashing cowboy but from the stories and the picture that Kiara had of a handsome man on horseback was enough to clue them in.
"Did you see him?"

She nodded her eyes glossing over a bit as she thought of their less than spectacular meeting, finally she shivered and was brought back to her friends, "I'm not sure ...he's lived here for a while now...I...he said that father asked him to come see me." there was a bitter line near her mouth as she said that last part, she was very unhappy with her father, even though everything had turned out alright and she was happy with her new friends in London, she was angry with him for turning his back on her, at least that's how she saw it.
"I can't believe he's here."
