Ace was amazed, every second she spent with Derek and in this new world he had introduced her to she found herself more and more in shock of how limiting her existance had been.
She didn't like to think about the past, though she couldn't escape it in her dreams, she was often reminded of the day she met that creature in the woods. That night had changed everything for her, in a word it was magic.
But that encounter and the several to follow were nothing to indicate that such a world existed where there were people like her. People who had powers and knew how to use them. Derek had brought her into this world and she had a yearning for more.
That was going to get her into trouble, in fact it already had.
On a whim she decided to explore more of the magical universe Derek had introduced her to, she could remember him telling her where to go and what areas to stay away from, but when she found herself in front of the Rusty Nail she knew she had taken a wrong turn somewhere and only hoped she'd be able to get home safely. Still she was tired, cold, and hungry and what was the worst that could happen?

William was not in Knockturn Alley by accident. He had a friend who owned a book shop in Knockturn Alley; a werewolf who sold dark magic books and other black market items. He also carried remedies that no one else did; remedies that could be used to treat illnesses and injuries specific to half-breeds like himself. A member of William's pack had fallen ill after a bite from a rival had become infected. He didn't trust regular hospitals, and certainly not the magical hospital, to treat the poor boy properly, so William went to fetch the healing tinctures that would hopefully save his life.
He was just coming out of the shop, which was tucked discreetly next to the Rusty Nail, when he saw the girl. He stopped in his tracks, recognizing her. It had been many years, but he could not forget her face. She was the girl who had caused his brother's death.
Well, maybe she hadn't actually caused it, but in William's mind, it was her fault. He had fought to protect her and paid dearly for his valiance. Humans, in William's eyes, were dangerous and not to be trusted, but his brother had never listened.
William stood there a moment longer, shielded by the shadows, watching her. She looked lost. She didn't fit in here, and if she wasn't careful, she'd find herself in a world of trouble. The thought amused him, and he almost walked away. But something stopped him.
Instead, he walked towards her. "A lass like you has no business in a place like that," he said.

Her resolve in hand she reached out for the door knob to let herself in the dingy inn, someone stopped her. A voice so deep and resonant she could feel the vibration throughout her entire body and it resonated strongly. She turned to see his face and what she saw took her back several years. Her breathing hitched and she almost spoke his name...Brandon. That was all she could see in the dark stranger's eyes, but it wasn't him, not by a long shot.
Some of her sense came back to her, "I...I'm lost." she whispered her lip quivering, she shivered as well realizing how cold she was.

He could see in her eyes that she recognized him, even though they had never actually met. He'd seen her when he was following Brandon, but she had never met him. But she didn't recognize him specifically. She could see Brandon in his eyes. William knew that, because on the rare occasion that he got a glimpse of his own reflection, he often swore he could see Brandon staring back at him.
He smiled, but it never touched his eyes. They stayed as cold and impassive as steel. "Not a good place to be lost, lass. Where were you trying to go?"

She was lost in familiar eyes and a history she had thought she had long put behind her, "I..I'm sorry. London...I'm trying to get back to my apartment. Twilight apartments." she didn't know what was wrong with her or why she was so captivated by him, she could only assume it was the memory of a love long lost. She shivered, and as if that was some cue, the wind swept up and with it the clouds darkening letting the long awaited rain fall. At first just a few drops, but then the storm began in earnest, and still she couldn't move.

Rain, of course, was nothing to William. He'd been out in all sorts of weather, and cared little about any of it. It was just part of life, and he certainly didn't care about getting wet. He didn't really care about her getting wet, either... or at least, he didn't think he did. He was about to just leave her there, cold and wet... until she shivered. It was the shiver that got to him.
"Aye..." he said with a sigh. "Come with me, lass, and no harm'll come to ye."

She couldn't have stopped herself if she tried, her hand came up to his face though she didn't quite touch him, when she realized what she had done she snapped her hand back, "Sorry...I'm so sorry...it's just you remind me of someone." she shook her head and reality was brought back into place. She didn't know this man, he could be a fate worse than death itself, and if this really was such a bad neighborhood and he seemed to know it well, then what was he doing there?
"I don't want to inconvenience you."

He flinched as her hand moved up to touch his face. He didn't want this girl to touch him, to draw him in the way she'd done to Brandon. He really should just leave her here... but he couldn't forget one thing. Although she had eventually led him to his death, she had also saved Brandon once. She saw an injured animal, trapped and alone, and rescued him. She didn't know he was human or anything... she simply did it because it was the right thing to do. And like it or not, helping this silly girl out of Knockturn Alley was the right thing to do. It was what Brandon would have done.
"It's no trouble. My business here is done. Just come with me and I'll take ye out of here."

She couldn't help her feet that followed him instantly. She couldn't explain the dual feelings of trust and fear, as if she knew that he wouldn't let anything terrible happen to her, and yet the most terrible thing to happen to her could quite possibly be him, it was a strange feeling.
"A-alright..." she shivered again not sure if it was the cold or the man.

He was also feeling a conflicting mixture of emotions. Part of him felt oddly protective of her, every time she shivered or spoke in that uncertain tone of voice. But another part of him was a bit annoyed at her. Stupid girl, wandering down a dark and forbidding street... she could have run into much more trouble than him. This street was frequented by vampires and hags and warlocks and creatures too strange to even name. But the worst of them all were probably the humans, in part because they looked so normal, but also because they usually had very nefarious plots in mind. A girl like this could very easily have been torn apart, and no one would even know about it. Instead, here he was, rescuing her, and he wasn't really sure she deserved it.
Once again she shivered, and William sighed. He took off his cloak and draped it over her shoulders. "Move quickly," he said in his brusque tone. "Ye don' want ter call attention to yerself."

Acelynn nearly jumped out of her skin at contact between them. She didn't know this man and all of her instincts were telling her to run. She set her hand over his where he had laid his coat over her prepared to take it off and give it back to him, but at the touch of his warmth something hit her with a force so strong she nearly fell to her knees.
It was quiet but she could hear his voice, "Go with him, he won't hurt you".
Brandon...
In that moment her fear settled and whether he was leading her to salvation or certain death she would follow him.

William could feel Brandon's presence there as well. It was so strong that it felt almost as if his brother was standing there with them, trying to get them to make peace. Not that they were at war... at least, not so that she knew. She had no idea who he was, and it was better that way.
He saw her hesitate, and he was prepared to insist that she go with him, but suddenly she seemed to relax. It was at that moment that he felt Brandon standing at his side, urging him to move forward.
"Best keep moving," he said again. "Sooner yer out o' here, the better."

Wind whipped her hair across her face and wet from the rain it stung, but mountains could come crashing down around them and it still wouldn't take her eyes off of the man in front of her. Man? Was he a man? He seemed bigger somehow than a normal man and her breath hitched as she heard his voice, that deep timber resonating deep inside her own chest was almost hypnotic.
She moved quickly trying to keep up with his pace but his legs were longer and he seemed to move with an almost animal like grace through the dark alley taking twists and turns the way a ballerina might, no nothing so dainty, the way a wolf might when stalking it's prey. She couldn't help but be fascinated by him.
"I really appreciate this." she said finally.
